SANTO DOMINGO Columbus made first Caribbean landfall on the island that came to be known as Hispaniola and that is now divided into Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Confronted with friendly and helpful natives he sailed back to Spain to make a report and returned a few years later to enslave and murder them. SANTO DOMINGO 28" TURQUOISE DISC BEADS ESTATE NECKLACE 56 gm heishi silver
I inherited this 28" Magnificent turquoise disc necklace from a collector of Native American jewelry. She purchased her items in pawn shops in Arizona, mostly the Prescott area, or directly from Indians in northern Arizona on the reservation, and in New Mexico. It has two long sterling silver beads on it, and tiny heishi turquoise in between the graduated sized turquoise discs. These discs are all rounded on the edges which is nicer than just flat sided beads. It weighs about 56 grams, per my little scale. The largest discs at the bottom are about 14mm in diameter. It is on a metal cord. With hook& eye fastener. This was noted in the estate as Santo Domingo, New Mexico, by Cheykashi. Additional info added later: I also took it to a friend who owns a N. A. jewelry shop in Albuquerque and she says these Santo Domingo disc beads are ... morevery hard to find. And she would charge over $300.00 for it, if it was in her store. I combine shipping. Here is an early 1940s to 1950s Native American Santo Domingo/ Cochiti P ueblo Polychrome pitcher of published rare shape- a double spout pitcher with handle. Hand made of reservation clay and covered with local white clay slip on the outsides and red slip inside. The design is a traditional Santo Domingo pattern- a row of cactus flowers around the middle with running water borders. There are some chips and wear on the black paint and on the white slip. So you should look at all the photos to decide what the actual condition is. It was probably a tourist item but maybe not. Most of the red slip is worn off the bottom but the red slip finish inside is still pretty good. Thinning of the white slip in places. Size is 7 inches tall by 8 ½ inches wide. Unsigned. Here is a great looking vintage wool indian rug or blanket. It has a tag attached that reads Hand Loomed by Indians Santo Domingo Indian Trading Post Santo Domingo Indian Reservation PO Box Algodones New Mexico 100% wool. Rug measures 28" x 54" and has great colors. Not real familiar with this tribes weavings. But this looks to be of good quality, nice tight weave and straight lines etc with great colors. Neat piece, fresh out of an estate.

The label reads: ANNO SANTO 1983 ROMA" The only coin in the top center depicts JOHN PAUL II while the others depict animals, shields and leaves. There is no certificate with these items, but they are in their plastic cover and have never been opened. Some of the coins have shifted out of their cutout openings, but I have not opened it up to put them back. I do not know the weight on the coins. Please email with questions. Jacla Pendant necklace. Looks to be made by well known Santo Domingo/ Navajo artist, Lupe Lovato. The beautiful blue/ green with brown matrix discs are made from Kingman mine turquoise, and graduate from large to small upward toward each other. Beads 5mm wide, Mosaic Tabs 7/8" long x 5/8" wide x 5mm deep, Thunderbird 2 1/4" tall x 1 3/8" wide. When I purchased the necklace it was on the original string. That however broke when I handled it, due to the age of the necklace and the weight of the beading. I did restring it with a strong denim strength thread string. During the shortages of that era. These necklaces were fashioned from found and recycled materials including car batteries, phonograph records, plastic utensils and the like. This particular necklace is unusual. First, for the amount of turquoise pieces included in the mosaic, and second, for the turquoise nuggets which alternate with the stone beads and the mosaic tabs. Santo Domingo Polychrome Vintage Jar - Great Little Piece
Presented today is this delightful vintage Santo Domingo jar. Attractively styled after a small coffee creamer. It is a diminutive 2 and a half inches tall, and 3 inches across. Dating from about 1920, and specifically made for the first tourists, visiting the Southwest via Santa Fe Railways, it made it's way from Santo Domingo to someone's display case in Passaic(for instance) and after 90 years is looking for it's new home. It's a really nice piece in great condition, with no chips or cracks and minimal abrasion to the decoration(Santo Domingo pots, even small ones are tough) i am always on the lookout for"smalls" because they fit into any collection and are so reasonably priced. Santo Domingo Vintage Braided Handle Jar - Rare!
Presented today is this very nice. Old Santo Domingo braided handle jar, dating from the 1920's. Measuring a very petite 2 and a half inches in diameter, it is in flawless condition. Pieces such as this were among the first to be made specifically for tourists, and sold typically at train stops, where oftentimes the emphasis was on smaller, easily packed pottery. It's a lovely piece and would look great in any Southwestern Pottery collection. i have been carefully accumulating a group of small pottery pieces, of very nice quality, to place on eBay simultaneously, and they are now ready. i call this my"Smalls" lot, and i hope you take the time to review all of them. Lovely vintage turquoise heishi necklace by“Big” Joe Garcia from the Santo Domingo Pueblo. It is circa 1950. It is unmarked. But the info. marked on the box it was stored in gave this information. Sadly the box was thrown away. Necklace consists of 7 strands of tiny, fine light blue turquoise stones. Sterling beads and cones at the ends. Excellent condition. Length 26 ½” Tiny beads are 2mm by 2mm.

Santo Domingo Pubelo Depression Era Native American Thunderbird/Eagle Necklace Vintage Santo Domingo Pueblo Native American Depression Era Necklace. Although I say"Depression" Era I have read that these were made starting in the 1930's up until the 1960's. Probably made for and sold to American Soldiers traveling throught the Southwest on Troop Trains. This necklace measures 16 inches from top to bottom. The small tabs are 7/8 of an inch and the larger ones closer to the Bird are 1 inch in legnth. The Bird measures 2.75 inches long and 1.75 inches wide. Made from different materials available at the time of their creation these necklaces are quite a tribute to Native American Ingenuity. Necklace is in excellent condition and shows well.
