These have been used and show normal wear and tear although it is clear that the owners took very good care of these items. May 1937 Leaflet Missal. Mass of the Sunday Within the Octave of Corpus Christi. The Leaflet Missal series was printed monthly in weekly parts in St. Paul, Minnesota. It has bent corners and edges. It was folded in half, at least briefly, probably to fit in a pocket or purse. The spine is not torn and the cover is securely attached. No writing inside. It is 3 1/2" x 5" 1940 booklet. The Way of the Cross with Franciscan Text. Original copyright 1910 by Catholic Book Pub. Co. New York. The inside title is"The Fourteen Stations of the Way of the Cross with ... morethe Meditations. Franciscan Text. Arranged for Congregational Prayer. There is wear on the cover and corners, creases. The folded edge of the cover is torn about half way. On the title page someone wrote in pencil, Mrs. E Steuernagel, Great Grandma" The color illustrations are beautiful. It is 3 1/2" x 5 3/4. Undated small card. 2 1/4" x 3 3/4. The front has a black and white picture of a priest offering the sacrament. The card has a small gold border. On the back is an explanation of the purgatorial society"The Parish Beyond the Grave" and its practice of taking a"census" every November 2 by means of the black bordered envelopes and slips and special offerings. It encourages the parishioners to take part in this. This card is in very good vintage condition. No tears, creases, or bent corners. There is yellowing on the back, and also some browning of the paper. Prayer card featuring the Virgin Mary. The card is 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" It is white cut-out like lace or a doily. It has not yellowed. 1956 Missal, Father Stedman Sunday Missal, 1930's Cambridge Bible Illustrated
These 3 little religious books came from the same place(flea market table in central NY! but I doubt they were originally together. The bible has a penciled inscription with a date of 1934 and the Stedman Missal was printed in 1956. They are all in pretty good shape except for a rip I found on the bottom of a page in the Stedman Missal(see photo) The smaller books are about 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches and the bible is about 4 1/2 x 6 x 1 1/4 inches with a leather cover. MEDIEVAL MANUSCRIPT LEAF, VELLUM, MISSAL CALENDAR, GERMANY, TRIER, c.1400.
This is a calendar leaf for the months of November(recto) and December(verso) It is from a Missal probably belonging to the abbey of Echternach and is for the Use of Trier. Germany and was written c.1400. The size of the leaf is 325mm x 208/205mm(12 4/5ins. x 8 1/10ins. Too large for it to fit on my scanner and thus the images are cropped. PROVENANCE: A. The date for the leaf cannot be before 1372 as this was the date that the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was introduced in the West. A date of c. 1400 is not unrealistic. B. There were about ten medieval monasteries in Trier and around Köwerich(close to Bernkastel-Kues) where the seller to me found this leaf(it had been part of a literary bequest of a parsonage) The leaf includes the typical Trier saints of EUCHARIUS(first bishop) and WILLIBRORD(founder abbot of ... moreEchternach) The second name of Willibrord was CLEMENS and this is also in red on the leaf. Because of this it is suggested that the leaf may well have come originally from Echternach. This is supported by the fact that the abbey was a big landowner(from the 7th. century) and in possession of Köwerich church. All this per the Deputy Keeper of Records. Trier. C. This is not a calendar leaf that has a Saint for each day. The original religious house only had included those Saints that it wished to venerate. There is no doubt what so ever that the Missal from which the leaf came was made for the USE OF TRIER AND TO BE USED IN THAT DIOCESE. The reasons for this specific attribution are the inclusion of the following entries: 7th. November- Willibrord. Bishop of Utrecht, founder of Echternach(approximately 15 miles from Trier) and shown here as associated with Trier(Treveris) 15th. November- Maximinus Confessor. Probably Maximinus. Bishop of Trier(died c. 349) whose feast is actually 29th. May. 15th. November is probably a translation date. 17th. November- Florinus. Bishop of Trier(4th. Century) His feast is 16th. October, 17th. November is a translation date.

Missale Defunctorum 1954 Catholic Latin Missal This is a very nice Latin Missal that was printed in Germany in 1954 specifically for use at Masses for the dead in all their variety. It has artwork inside that is characteristic of it's era. The tabs are in place and there are several black cloth book marks. The pages have gold leafing on them although it is a but worn. All the pages are in tact and in great condition. I took a picture of where they added the name of Saint Joseph. As this missal was printed before the insertion of his name. Overall this is a great book! The only concern with regard to condition is the binding: it is held together very well, but the external black cloth is cracked. I tried to take a picture of it. It beautifully bound in brown leather with gold leafing on the edge of the binding. It has some signs of usages. the corners are worn and the leather tabs are missing. The pages are all in tact inside. The pages where the canon is located show signs of usage within from peoples fingers over the years. The leather tabs are missing. But you can tell where they were. Hand carved hardwood stand for a bible or missal. The dark walnut color features a central flower. Leaf, and vine design surrounded by the same motif around the perimeter. A bible or missal easily rests on the 9 inch long x 1.5 inch ledge leaning against a solid wood back that is 3/4 inch thick. When open, the entire stand measures 8 inches deep. Two very large. Beautiful and heavy antiphonals from the singing of the divine office in Gregorian chant notation for the Order of Dominicans. Compiled by Fr. Jandel year 1862. These beautiful antiphonals are used but still in good condition. No pages appear to be missing but some pages have been repaired and with a little caution and still be used in the recitation of the office. They weigh about 10 lbs each and are a out 2' long and 1' wide. The Official Prayers of the Catholic Church for the Celebration of Daily Mass. Beautiful full color illustrations. Measures about 4” x 6 1/2” Black hardcover with embossed cross on front. Gild or gold lettering on spine in excellent condition. Original embossed black plastic dust jacket or protector also excellent, barely noticeable wear to either one. Beautiful printed end papers. Firmly bound no loose pages. Pages are tight. There is some writing, birthdates on one of the back pages and former owner's name on first page. A few pages have earmarked on bottom corners and the odd very light smudge. This book may have been damp, or wet. Red color from edges has bled ... morein a bit and the tops of some of the pages a bit wrinkled, a few light watermarks. Ribbons are missing, a few pages are stained from where they were placed, most likely many years ago. Please view all the photos, we have tried to be as accurate as possible.
