The devil having stolen the challis(in his hand) from the tabernacle. The Bishop has a halo. So possibly a Bishop of Rome. Below is an armorial with a cross. The knocker is styled as a satyrs head. Expect this trophy to sell at a tiny fraction of true value. An epic opportunity. National Bank Notes were United States currency banknotes issued by banks chartered by the United States Government. The notes were backed by United States bonds the bank deposited with the United States Treasury. Background Prior to the American Civil War. State banks issued their own banknotes. During the Civil War. In 1863, the National Banking Act established a system of National Banks which were empowered to issue National Bank Notes subject to federal oversight. The chartering of banks and administrative control over the issuance of National Bank Notes were the responsibility of the Office of the Comptroller ... moreof the Currency. In 1865 the Congress enacted a 10% tax on state bank note issuance making it unprofitable for state banks to issue notes. And thus restricting the circulation of privately issued banknotes to the National Banks. The Program From 1863 to 1935. National Bank Notes were issued by banks throughout the country and in U.S. territories. Banks with a federal charter would deposit bonds in the U.S. Treasury. The banks then could print banknotes worth up to 90% of the value of the bonds. The federal government would back the value of the notes- the issuance of which created a demand for the government bonds needed to back them. The Notes National banknotes were similar in overall appearance to most of the Federal Reserve Notes that circulated from 1929 through the 1990s. Wealthy and poor alike were quick to abandon the dirty and claustrophobic Manhattan for the suburban lands just across the East River. In 1855 the communities of Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Bushwick and Williamsburg were consolidated by the State of New York into one large city, modern day Brooklyn. It was around this time that the term“Kings County” began to fall out of popular usage in favor of“Brooklyn” By 1865, three years before this map ... morewas printed, Brooklyn had become the third largest city in America, following New York and Philadelphia. Here Brooklyn is revealed in the midst of this incredible development. Prospect Park, which was still being built, is shown, as is Greenwood cemetery. The hoard was discovered at Bishops Wood. Near Ross-on-Wye, just across the Herefordshire border and within the surroundings of the Forest of Dean. It was uncovered in a rough walling built against the hillside by workmen who were in the process of repairing a road and who struck an earthenware vessel containing the coins. The accidental strike from a pick broke the jar and scattered its contents in various directions. The original intention of the hoard and why it was deposited at the findspot is uncertain. It is possible that the area in question was occupied by Roman soldiers at the time and. Given its size, it has been suggested that the hoard formed part of a military treasure, intended as payment for the legions. Whatever the original purpose of the coins, the hoard is a fascinating primary source of information for the mints employed ... morein supplying Britain with coinage. The Bishop's Stortford Dunmow & Braintree Branch Line Railway (OPC Railway Book)
The Bishop's Stortford-Braintree Branch. Nearly 18 miles in length, traversed a route across the undulating mid-Essex countryside running mostly at right angles to the river valleys with the result that the line had a veritable switchback of gradients. As roads and motor vehicles improved, the parrallel main road from Bishop's Stortford to Braintree quickly attracted passenger traffic away from the railway and trade rapidly declined to the extent that services were withdrawn a decade before the Beeching era. Please see photo two for the contents page. Part of a series of books in this format published by OPC- this edition from 1981. Just over 200 pages thick full of black and white photos, layouts, drawings etc. Very good condition.

The design is fresh and unique, the bottom half of the base has a striated incised decoration with a brown glaze and the upper part is glazed with a stunning shade of yellow. The over all visual effect is one of marvelous invigorating simplicity. It is extremely difficult to find anything from the Bishop California Ceramics studio. This vase stands 4" High. 3.25" Wide and 2.5" deep. It was produced exclusively for Moorcroft special retailer events in the Centenary year 1997. A few of the vases were personally signed in gold at the events. This vase has been signed both by the designer. Rachel Bishop, and also by John Moorcroft. It has the added benefit of being painted by celebrated Moorcroft artist Anji Davenport.
