It has a slot for a Bolt action mechanism on the right side so I guess something like a Palmer carbine might have called it home. I'm only speculating though. Very hard to find, antique wooden voting, or ballot, box. Stamped on the back, Property Town of Milo. Milo is a town in Yates County. NY. Settlement began around 1788 by members of the Universal Friends, a religious sect. In 1818, the town was founded from part of the Town of Benton, while still part of Ontario County. By 1820, the population was about 1,612. When Yates county was formed in 1823, Milo became part of the new county. Not sure of the exact age of the box but I did a little research and found that New York became the first American State to adopt the paper ballot for state wide elecions in 1889. There is a piece of type on the front of the box with writing that says Milo 3 so appears it was at one time used in the 3rd voting district of Milo. NY. If you live in. Or near, this area it is a wonderful addition to a collection of local history. The box measures 7 1/2 inches high and is 10 1/4 inches front to back and 18 1/2 inches side to side. At one time there was a key lock but that is missing. It now has a metal clasp on which you could place a lock which has been part of the box for a very long time. There is no lock included with the box. It is in good to very good condition. No major problems with the box. It is strong and solid with dovetailed construction. There is some wear to the slot on the top of the box through which the ballots were placed. Looks like a bit of mice chewing in that area. Otherwise very good. Here we have a table I made that is one of a kind. The base is textured bent brass and is three legged with cast iron claws for each foot. The leg brace shown in photo 7 is cast iron and as you can see also very decorative. The table top is an old saw blade that is firmly held on place but can and will be taken off for shipping. This is a listing for an antique Victorian carved coral cameo ring. It's unmarked and tested as sterling silver. It's a size 5.5 to 6.0 with a domed back. Which allows a little more room. The band is made from heavy sterling that is curved on the outside and flat against the skin. It overlaps and fuses together on the bottom, making the bottom of the band wider than the sides. The face of the ring measures 1 and 3/16th inches long. The ring curves or wraps around the finger, making it difficult to give a width of the face, but it's about.75 inches from side to side. It weighs a substantial 16.6 grams. The carved coral stone was cut into a long oval that measures 13/16th inches long and 3/8th inches wide. The coral is natural. In a deep salmon shade with small amounts of creamy white. The carved cameo is highly three dimensional ... morewith excellent detail. The stone has a beautiful polish and is in perfect condition. It was mounted in a smooth silver bezel and surrounded in a classic Art Nouveau mounting. The mounting is also three dimensional, with applied silver leaves that are finely engraved and drape around the stone in a garland. Large stamped silver drops form rose bud accents. The silver has had a yellow and rose gold wash applied to the leaves and roses. The wash has mellowed with time, giving the ring a softened and warm patina but also a nice metallic glow. The background of the sterling was finely textured and has an aged and darkened patina. The overall effect is strongly organic and very romantic.
