My parents. Who are both deceased, traveled to many of the most famous Catholic shrines in the 1970's and 1980's. Whenever they could, they purchased an altar candle of the site. The candle of Saint Therese of Lisieux was purchased at the Our Lady of Victory Shrine, the church where Saint Therese was confirmed by Our Lady that she indeed did smile at her which cured her of her strange affliction(she had many scruples that maybe she did not see the smile, but Our Lady assured her at this Cathedral that she did indeed smile at her) and secondly there is a altar candle of Our Lady of Victory that was also purchased in that Church, both are in French. The candle of Saint Bernadette was purchased at her convent in Nevers, France. The candle of Saint Claude de Colombiere and Saint Margaret Mary was purchased at the Cathedral of the Sacred ... moreHeart in Paray le Monial, France where Jesus appeared to Saint Margaret Mary. Up for sale is this pair of stunning antique carved wood and gilt gesso altar candlesticks. The carving is wonderful with a gold gilt finish and a pricket end. there are 3 carved claw feet. They come from a private Conn estate and measure 19 1/2" x 4 1/2. The are in good condition but when them being so old there are some signs of wear in some areas that only add to their beauty in my opinion. There is a liitle chip at one of the top rims as seen in the picture but looks to have been painted years ago to blend in. This is a great find. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful crocheted lace and medium weight antique linen. Circa 1920's Approximately 26" x 88" Surprisingly in excellent condition with a couple of small holes. About the size of a pencil tip. The crochet is coming apart in one corner and I saw a couple of minor stains although they don't stand out. A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF HANDIWORK A WORK OF ART The crocheted lace is beautiful. The linen is medium to heavy weight. The color is like an ecru. Almost looks like it has been tea dyed. While the purpose for which it was created is not entirely clear. The rich patina of this Dogon figural group suggests a ritual function involving repeated applications of offerings and libations. Composed of a set of eight female figures arrayed around a central core and crowned by a top-like form, this work may have once adorned a shrine or altar created for communication with the ancestors of a Dogon lineage group or other supernatural powers. Dogon sculpture emphasizes angularity and rectilinear form: the Dogon artist who carved this altar group has reduced his subject matter to a set of simple. Geometrical elements. Arms and legs are attenuated columns broken by sharp angles at the elbows and knees, while pointed cones replace breasts and protruding stomachs.
