Kept by Donald Bixler, originally from Bourbon Indiana where he appears to have grown up on a farm. He then attended Perdue from where he appears to have gotten an engineering degree. He enlisted in the Army(and seems to have become part of the Army Air Corps before going overseas) before World War 2 as his diary shows he was already in military training ... morewhen Pearl Harbor was bombed. There's a brief, somewhat stoic entry for Dec. 7, 1941 but his entry for the following day- when he describes the men gathered to hear Roosevelt's speech asking congress for a declaration of war- goes into more detail and seems to show more emotion) Although the last 2 volumes of the set of diaries covers much of his training and his experiences during the first 5 months of the war. The diary actually begins when he was still a hardworking(and very smart) farm boy in 1937. Yeah, there's a good bit about such mundane farm chores as planting and digging potatoes but one almost immediately catches on that there is much more to Bixler than that. He is always repairing, refurbishing and building things on the farm and for his neighbors. He would go on to Perdue where he would become a construction engineer. Somehow, many years later, he ended up in Alabama. Laid into one of the volumes are several of his Indiana driver licenses- one of which features a good photo of him as a very young man. He was 19 in 1937 when he began these diaries. I have the impression that he put aside keeping a diary when he got shipped overseas after his military tr

It was expanded over several decades and it has become a classic. Offered here is the early Tegg second edition based on the Johan Hawkins Edition of 1760 containing two volumes in one. Title page of each volume reads: The Complete Angler of Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton– Printed by C. and C. Whittingham– Sold by Thomas Tegg. Cheapside, London 1826. This is the first edition of Trollope's popular novel with numerous plates and illustrations throughout by Marcus Stone. It is complete in two volumes. He Knew He Was Right is a 1869 novel written by Anthony Trollope which describes the failure of a marriage caused by the unreasonable jealousy of a husband exacerbated by the stubbornness of a willful wife. As is common with Trollope's works. There are also several substantial subplots. Trollope considered this work to be a failure; he viewed the main character as unsympathetic, and the secondary characters ... moreand plots much more lively and interesting. CONDITION The bindings are generally tight and firm although the cords are exposed in a few places. All covers are attached. The rear inner hinge of volume I is strained but holding. There is some wear to the extremities including some sunning to the spines and mild marks to the boards. The corners are a little bumped Internally the books have some spotting in places and some handling marks. One or two pages are a little tattered to the edges.
