Wow. Great old trunk! Late 1800s Seward Trunk& Bag Co. Ladies Saratoga Trunk" Otherwise known as a"Barrel Stave Top" or"Dome Top" This style of trunk is quite often mistakenly referred to as a steamer trunk; steamer trunks are a maximum of 14" tall and flat. A bit rough. Someone removed the lock portion of the main latch. It is an unusual double latch design. The compartment lid inside has broken and been repaired. Corner wear, some surface rust and oxidation. Leather handles broke off and were replaced with some very heavy duty brass handles a long time ago. The brass handles appear to be quite old. One of the cast strap clamps is broken yet all there. There is some damage to the tin clad skin. Original lining is cracked and torn in places. It appears to be all original with the exception of the handles ... moreand has not been painted(painting these trunks takes away from their value significantly) I'm sure I'm missing something so please look at the photos carefully and ask questions! Item is available for preview with appointment. I personally would leave it an unrestored original yet it could be restored bringing its value up. Antique European Strongbox 1800 to 1850
For Sale an antique strongbox or floor safe in European style from the 1800's to 1850's. Size is 18" end to end by 12" front to back and 12" deep inside. Weight@70 lbs. The inside of the lid has 7 locking lugs that slide under the front and end rim to lock it in place. There are also two large hasps that can be paddlelocked on the front of the box. There are large cast iron handles on each end for carring. The locking lugs are moved by a key lock in the center rosette on top of the lid which pops up and rotates out of the way when the left rosette is dialed. You can see the mechanism for the locking lugs in the picture of the underside of the lid. The only makers mark on the entire box is on the underlip of the top and is shown in the last picture as 7. Attached to the inside of the lid there is an envelope style compartment. There is a lock and two latches. The lock does not have a key so we use the latches to secure the truck closed. The fitting right above the lock is missing two of it’s four nails so it loose. There are no leather handles on the trunk. This item is a vintage antique woodden hump back steamer trunk. It measures 32"x 16" x 18.5" It is in very good shape. The outside is all original. It still has the original wooden handles. There are a couple of cracks in the top. But they do not take away from the character of the trunk.The inside has been lined with a mint green floral pattern. This old chest has great patina. With colors ranging from brass to blueish greens. Interior appears to be older cedar. The back has a round medallion with scalloped edges and the words: Made in England PPB. I've searched this mark but have not found a maker. Experts have looked this chest over and suggested it is most likely late 1800s, possibly very early 1900s. The chest measures approx. 22" wide. 18.25" tall and 15.25" deep. This trunk is in fairly good overall condition. I am not positive as to when this was made but the hardware is classic late 1800s hardware that i commonly see on a trunk like this. The insert here is really what stood out to me it is in very good condition. In fact probably the best trunk insert I have ever seen that was in original condition and not restored. The left side of the trunk on the exterior near the top rim there is a dent with a small hole where something hit the trunk it looks like. The interior has a few spots where the paper is starting to come off or are chipped and the ledges that the insert sets on is starting to separate from the ... moresides but nothing major and not loose. The trunk has I believe it's original owners name shown under the top and on the top of insert as shown in photos. This would make a great coffee table. It represents an era long lost, and is both a piece of americana and a scarce early advertising/ display piece. It dates to the 1870s-1880s, and was made to scale, featuring every detail of a full-scale steamer trunk in a more compact package. A travelling salesman couldn't possibly drag a full-scale trunk from house-call to house-call, so a VERY SMALL NUMBER of these pieces were manufactured. They allowed the salesman to showcase the many features of the steamer trunk, and were constructed in the same fashion, using the same materials. It has all of the inserts. Which still have bright colors and original lithography, as well as interior leather pulls. The original lining is complete and well preserved. The trunk has retained the entire outer, embossed-tin skin[a basket-weave pattern] and every wooden strap is present. The tin panels are free of rust or jags[curling/ sharp points] The top/ lid opens and closes smoothly, and the original hinges operate as they did 140-150 years ago. This trunk has been authenticated by the curator of the Louis Vuitton exhibition in Paris through emails. It's the real deal! This size is a rare half steamer. Measuring 13.5 inches high. 35.5 in wide, and 19.5 inches in depth. This trunk is about 130 years old, has traveled the oceans, and shows it's wear. It does have some condition issues. Please look at the pictures carefully. The inside is covered in the original blue/white striped ticking, and it has it's original removable tray, very rare to find the tray with the trunk! Also original label from the Paris Exhibition with the dates 1867, 1868. You can see half a serial number on the top of label. There is also a Louis Vuitton stamp on the bottom of trunk. A"W" is painted on both side ends. It is very very rare to find a gray, un-monogrammed trunk, This is a piece ... moreof history! antique doll trunk salesman sample Victorian chest circa 1890
Up for auction is a refinished antique doll trunk or salesman sample chest. This little trunk measures 15inches long by 8 inches deep and 8 inches high. There was no tray with this trunk when found but one was built for it out of oak and poplar. The trunk itself is made from pine and is metal bound. All the metal has been hand burnished but enough of the patina has been left to preserve the antique character of the piece. The lock is an Eagle lock and the latches function but are no longer spring loaded. The trunk has been refinished in a golden oak stain with multiple coats of sealer both inside and out. The original covering has been left on the underside to give a sense of the original look. The trunk is in overall good shape but because it is over 100 yrs old there are dings. Dents splits and cracks but these are minor and add to the ... moreoverall antique feel. It is a very well made solid little trunk that will last a lifetime if cared for. Lightly sanded, brushed and cleaned again then sealed with a high quality finish, left uncovered to show the beautiful pine, notice 1 piece of wood was used to make the back, that makes for a much stronger trunk to support the lid. Antique maritime box/trunk
This great looking trunk-box has had its hinges and carrying straps replaced/ no original hardware. Per the pictures. The top has considerable wear on it but is age appropriate. All the sides are in excellent condition for its age. It sits at 1 ft tall, 26 3/8 inches wide, and 16 inches deep. Left side of the box is marked R N and the right side is marked V R, per third picture. A very nice piece for any meritime collection!

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1800s DOME STEAMER TRUNK CHEST WOOD 4 ORIGINAL COMPARTMENTS
We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. This trunk is an amazing piece of history. This trunk has a little story behind it. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. The trunk is covered with brown leather which has a beautiful warm patina. It is bound with brass corners and corners straps, and has brass handles with large backplates on each side. The front has two brass locks and latches. The front and both sides each have a row of copper studs running between the corner straps. The hinged lid opens to a fabric lined interior. The trunk measures 22"w x 20"h x 20"d. Condition: Aside from minor wear. Rubbing and small stains to the leather, the trunk is in very good-excellent condition. Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Evidence of other pulls. The chest has been refinished at least once. There are some cross grain scratches on the sides from previous stripping. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. Antique Maple & Co Wicker Canvas Domed Travel Trunk
As found. In very original unrestored condition this colonial Domed lid travel trunk. Made of wicker with a papier mache lid, All of which is covered in a dark brown canvas with leather edging handles and straps etc. It has a brass lock which is marked"London" The trunk was sold by the famous Maple& Co company from London England. The trunk is most probably of colonial origin. The inner tray is still there. The straps are there but one of them needs to be fixed. The trunk measures 21"x 30" Height is 25" To the top of the domed lid. The pictures don't do this beautiful antique trunk justice! It is a true eyecatcher, a museum piece! Dating from around 1895! Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Made of pressed fiber(also known as vulcanized fiber) with a steel frames, corner pieces, hinges, latches& handle. All have excellent patina. All three latches are engraved with a crown logo. These are the only markings I see. Side latches work like new. Locking latch/mechanism works but key is missing. It pops open by prying with a knife, with relative ease. This box is very rigid, sturdy and strong. It is for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. No major defects whatsoever. Abundance of character! Rare, unique piece! It does have some wear like scratches and tears. The inside of the trunk has it's original cloth liner and tag seen in picture 9. The lid of the trunk and the leather handle are a little loose but overall this is a nice solid antique piece that would look great in your home. The metal banding was used to strengthen them and for decorative design. All the hardware appears to be original. I have not tried to clean it, because some people prefer the original patina.
