Here we have a rare item an early 17th century sword chest with carving to the front. SHIPS STRONG BOX CIRA 1790-1830 GOOD CONDITION FOR AGE LOOK
Hello this dates from the age when britan truely was a great trading nation. The days of the east india company and sail powered woodern ships brought there precious cargo back to england. Chests like this would have been filled with silver and gold coin to pay for the cargos that would return the door on this one fits so well that you cant get a sheet of paper between the body and the door without tearing it. It also has a rather nice brass lock guard it is in its original unrestored condition i.e has not been shot blasted. Late 18th Century Pony Skin Iron Bound Trunk
A lovely travelling trunk of dome topped form with iron cross banding iron clasp and lock plate. The trunk is formed of a frame of pine that is then covered in pony skin and held on by intricate stud work. The trunk is then strengthened with iron bands to the top and bottom along with the corners. The trunk has a carrying handle at either side. Date: Late 18th Century Circa. 1780- 1820 Approx. Dimensions: 75cm x 40cm x 35cm Condition: Very Good As Found Condition One hinge is sheered from the clasp(see image) There has been worm within the base of the box at some point in its long history(now treated) Some studs missing(see images)

Painted Oak coffer c1836 This is the best'ships Masters' captain or owner) coffer we have seen in the last 30 years. From the historic port of Nantes it is constructed of fine oak rather than the typical pine. The decoration is original and untouched and depicted garlands of flowers with two delightfully naïve canary or oriole type birds. It is impossible to pinpoint its history. They were typically commissioned by ships captains or owners and are usually painted though I have never seen illustrations of such a romantic example. The inference is that it is a marriage piece with the inscribed date that of the union. One can guess it was a gift from a mariner/owner to his bride. The photos do not do it justice it is a wonderfully romantic piece and very effective focal piece for any room. We love it. ANTIQUE GEORGIAN SOLID OAK COFFER / TRUNK / BLANKET BOX WITH LATER ALTERATION
ANTIQUE GEORGIAN SOLID OAK COFFER/ TRUNK/ BLANKET BOX WITH LATER ALTERATION* PLEASE SCROLL DOWN AFTER THE DESCRIPTION TO SEE THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THIS ITEM. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ANY FURTHER IMAGES PLEASE JUST ASK. This lovely coffer dates originally from c.1720. But has had carving and alteration added over the years. Most of the alteration is old, probably Victorian, in date. The coffer has a planked top, and a heavily carved front and sides- we believe that the carving was added later, probably in the early Victorian times. It is supported on straight legs with carved shoulders at the front. The coffer has metal hinges, which are old, although we do not believe them to be original to the piece. The bits of newspaper covering the hinges are dated 1798 and 1799. The coffer retains a lock, but this is wobbly and we do not know whether it works ... moreor not- please note that no key is present. The coffer is constructed from solid oak. Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition. But with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some overall scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. As is mentioned above the coffer has had significant alteration over the years- the carving has been added, the hinges have been replaced, and the front plank of the top is also a replacement. A piece of wood has been added to the underneath of the top to strengthen it. There are some areas of wood loss, and some signs of old woodworm- this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. The carved shoulder at the left-hand side of the front is a little loose, as is the lock. There is some wood shrinkage cracking to the planks of the base. The top has some scratching and heavy indentation. Please refer to photographs below. This antique solid oak chest/trunk/coffer came into our family when it was purchased from an antique store in Summerland. California back in the mid 1980's. It was sold to us with the provenance that it is from the early 1700's and was a ship captain's chest/trunk/coffer and was from England. Condition as shown in the pictures is as we received it and it has been well cared for since it came into our hands. It has the original hand forged iron hardware and does have the original working lock and key. The construction is with wood pegs and the main box is made with one piece oak planks, with the front and side decorations placed over that. Overall dimensions of this piece are: approximately 48" long, by approximately 24" deep, by approximately 24" high. Considering that the planks used in this piece are all straight ... moregrain with no knots, it is quite possible the tree the wood came from was very old itself. Antique Sarcophagus Regency Tea Caddy for Restoration. Sarcophagus shaped Regency tea caddy 13 inches long. 6.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep. Possibly walnut but I am not sure of this. Has the original cut glass mixing bowl which is in very good condition. Its not in good condition so would make a very good restoration project. A large piece of veneer is missing from the top but the smaller missing piece is still here and can be fixed back on. The inside is in quite good condition. The loop handles are fine but one needs to be fixed more securely. This once beautiful tea caddy which is in need of some TLC still displays well with great charm. It was hand made from solid zelkova wood, and has hand wrought iron mounts. This chest measures about 42 1/4" long, by 17 1/2" deep, and 16.1/2 inches high, and sits on shoe feet. The hinged lid is a single board 11 inches deep. To start with it has on the front. Gottlieb Nagel, Economy, Beaver Co. Pa. it also has a painted mark on top Baltimore and the numbers on the front lid, NR78940. The wood is Dove-tail. There is a sticker that reads D.Donau, Zwischendeck. It looks like there was white lettering at one time and it was painted over in red rust color well over 150 years ago. It has a wonderful patina of rusty red brown color. There are nicks and some paint missing, you can see in the photo's, which is normal for its age. Antique 18th Century Pennsylvania Red Painted Blanket Chest Made of pine. Features 6 board dovetail construction with beaded edge lid. Dovetail bracket feet which are slightly splayed and seen rarely. Appears to be original red paint which has been varnished over at one pint. Hinges are slightly loose and need some attention if you will be opening and closing the lid a lot. Top has a small split near the back edge and there is a bump on the front left beaded edging. Also has a water mark. No key for the lock. Has some mostly illegible writing inside top lid. Measures 26 1/2" wide x 18" deep x 23" high. A good solid chest with minimal damages and repairs. American Chippendale Blanket Chest of Drawers, Pennsylvania c. 1775-1800 Antique
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING American Chippendale Painted Antique Blanket Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. C. 1775-1800 Item# 130002EEP16 This is a well worn and nearly untouched American Pennsylvania Chippendale Blanket Chest over Two Drawers. The interior of the lid covered in a fine woven green textile embroidered lower right"A.M.M. 1779" Likewise, the bottom of the inside of the chest bears the very faint initials and date"A M M 1779" these difficult to capture accurately with the camera and hard to see also with the eye. The underside of the lid of the till is inscribed in pencil"Hannah Britton" in a script that would suggest a somewhat early inscription by someone who owned the chest at one point. Crafted entirely of tulip ... morepoplar. Each surface of the case is crafted of a single solid unjoined board painted with a heavily oxidized brown streaked paint. The dovetails that join the case stretch from the top to the bottom of each toe, the feet becoming an integral part of the form, these well preserved and fully original. The molding around the lid, the midsection and the base are applied in the same manner, each with tiny wooden pins hammered through at regular intervals. The pair of drawers both bear pairs of replaced hardware, these inserted into the same original holes, both locks appearing to be fully original. The drawer frame is dovetailed front and back, the bottom heavily chamfered into rabbets on either side and nailed at the back in the typical manner. The interior of the chest has a later stain. While the 18th Century blanket chest is a very prevalent form. These are regularly refinished and rarely retain the original oxidized surface- even fewer also retain numerous matched inscriptions, dated and with some prior ownership inscribed on the interior. Well preserved in every way, this piece is untouched for the most part, of a desirable medium size and sturdy and strong in every way. These

Exquisite antique American New England High Chest. Circa 1780-1800. The description below was provided by Mr. Joe S. Byerly. Founding member of the Museum of Southern Decorative Arts, Winston Salem, and antique dealer/ appraiser from 1962– to present. The chest has a bold crown mold. Over six graduated drawers. The drawer fronts, crown mold, and feet are tiger maple, with straight grain maple sides. The chest is raised on original bracket feet with spurs. The case of the chest is dovetailed together as well as all the drawers. The hardware is of a later date, but is the correct style. The chest is well proportioned. The chest has been refinished at some point, but retains a nice mellow color. CHARLES 1 SIX PLANK COFFER A fine example of English craftsmanship from the early 17th century. This oak plank chest stands at just 6" high x 5" wide x 3" deep. It has been constructed using the pegged and wedge technique. It features a simple incised carved and scratch design to the front and top panel. The lid opens easily with pin hinges- the common style used at that time. The planked sides are cut out in a'V' shape. The front and back panels are wedged into place. There is a small faint water stain on the lid. Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk Blanket Chest
Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk. Measures 44" wide by 25" high by 23" depth. NOT a reproduction. My parents bought this over from a trip to Europe in 1971. Extremely sturdy. Very little damage, just on some of the iron and I have the small the piece that is missing from the left bottom, it needs to be reattached. No key. There are two U-shaped pieces that would attach the trunk to a coach in the back. I have the shipping manifest with the shipping date of Feb. 1972 when my parents shipped it from Germany. This is obviously a very heavy piece(I guesstimate more than 150 pounds) and would need to be shipped by a freight carrier. Very Rare Museum Piece: A 1600s Leather Stage Coach Chest with Ancient Lock(also known as coffer. Trunk, mule trunk, Box etc) This is a very rare. Very ancient Antique Coaching Trunk or Treasure Chest! Authentic coaching trunks were leather covered, not wood, which was the most waterproof material of the day. They typically travelled OUTSIDE on the back of the coach, at the opposite end to the horses. We believe this is one of the oldest surviving examples in private hands. The lock- in itself- is a work of art. Look at that KEY! The two holes of the key have to fit into the two shafts in the lock. It works perfectly. The chest has a number of'feature' scars and ancient repairs. Which add to its character. The condition is- to say the least- remarkable for its age. About the item: Fine quality antique 18th century and later Oak bible box on stand. C 1790. The stand has a single drawer and the box a void interior. It stands on ring turned spreading cylindrical supports with circular feet and is profusely carved to the front,top and sides. The quality of the caring is very good and it has aged beautifully with good colour/patina. There is an age related split to the top and I cannot get the key to turn in the lock,but overall I would say it is in good condition given its age and use.
