The top ... moreis made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish and some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. Rare Martin Maier Bevel Top Oak Slat Antique Trunk 1880s
A great size trunk. 31" wide from edge to edge, 23" tall and 20" deep. This outstanding trunk is a highly sought after Victorian Slat Trunk made by Martin Maier& Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Martin Maier slat trunks are quite rare, and the bevel corner, flat top is the scarcest of the styles. These trunks were referred to as the"Rustic" style in the Maier Trunk catalog. The Pine or Basswood box was covered entirely with hardwood slats to make it very strong. Every other slat is dark wood to produce a very dramatic affect. This trunk has been carefully cleaned, restored, and coated with Tung Oil finish. The original lock is in great working condition with the key included. Original bottom rollers are in great condition. Every item has been addressed, including new stitched leather handles with the cast iron handle ... morecaps with the stars pattern. None of the wood slats have been replaced on this trunk and they are in excellent condition with only minor age wear. Complete original interior wooden tray, with covered hat box, beautiful Victorian trim and lithographs, and Martin Maier label! The latches and other hardware date this trunk to the mid 1880's and you will also receive copies of the patent documents for this style trunk and special Maier patented stop-hinges from 1879. And the inside tray has all the original decals and all in good condition, this trunk measures 26 inches wide 16 inches deep and 15 inches tall, most camelbacks are bigger than this. these are getting harder to find in this condition. Antique Chinese Trunk/ Chest circa 1880. Purchased from ABC Carpet in NYC for $250. It has a metal latch and metal handles on each side. It is hand painted. It has a Burgundy background. This is very old. So it has nicks, scratches and a few cracks which add character to the piece. The interior was recently lined in burgundy colored velvet. Antique Trunk / Chest 1885 (Refinished, GORGEOUS!)
Antique trunk found in horrible condition so I decided to refinish her. She was covered in moldy. Torn paper, metal was destroyed, leather hard and cracking, broken and missing hinges, broken, missing and sharp edged straps. I completely refinished the. Stained and polyed. New hardware. Hinges, and stop chain, she's line halfway on the inside to cover a stain that would not come out of the wood. The metal was treated. Brushed, and since it was oxidized and looked terrible I gave her a coat of flat black rustoleom metal finish. Also vigorously conditioned the leather straps to save them and they came out beautiful. Great condition for being 127 years old and having been through a fire in the previous family's home. She would be great as a table or decor piece. The top is only slightly camel backed. Enough to still use as a surface. ... moreWould have used it myself but I have two of my own.I know someone will appreciate her! She's a beauty! Here is a beautiful rare trunk/chest it has two metals handles at either side which is unusual. It comes with it's original key and the lock works very well. This is a very old trunk lined with either Japanese or Chinese old newspapers( any help or information on the newspaper inside and what it says would be appreciated) then there is a hessian lining on top of that. The interior is lined with what looks like pine. It has oak banding and nice ornate brass catches. The lock is very nice and unusual as you can see in the photo it is very ornate and is a double lock. The exterior is lined with some sort of metal overall is in very good condition for its age. This is a beautiful piece of furniture for any home perfect for a coffee table or secure storage box because it has the key. The Liebrich lock is dated 1854 and the castors are dated 1855. this trunk has a lot of character and is beautiful and functional the way it is. inside has compartment below the lid that opens for storage. nicely designed. Rustic and worn. Has wear from age as shown in the pictures. Missing handles and there is no key. There are a couple areas that have damage. Antique Child's Doll Trunk. Dome top, embossed tin, very small & cute!
Hello, Today I am offering an antique child's dome top trunk. I was told it is circa 1880s. It is a beautiful combination of black and silver. With a lovely star pattern. The inside is covered with antique wallpaper. It comes with the original tray. It is 14 inches long, almost 8 inches wide, and 8 3/4 inches at the tallest point. This trunk is super tiny and can fit into almost any space! Unfortunately. Due to the age of this piece, it does have a few flaws. It has dings, dents, and scratches. There is a small gap on the top between the tin and the wood, it is featured in the 7th photo. Two of the little slat clamps are broken on the end, and one is bent. One of the brackets on the inside isn't level and causes the tray to be a bit tilted. Also, I do not have the key. Buy it now or make me an offer! If you have any questions. A Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/2 Locks,Key,& Tray
Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. This beautiful flat top trunk which is a true flat top with no factory arch, did have a leather strap that ran up the front and across the top. It was missing, so we have replaced it with an Amish made leather strap with roller buckle. It

We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. I picked this up at a Pa. estate sale this past weekend. I couldn't believe the original. Working key was still here. It's a flat top with the slightest raise in the center, so, not completely flat. It's adorned with wood slats. Take notice of the stenciling on the leather trim attached with studs. On the inside you will see the original paper lining. This is a walnut Sheraton period miniature or child's chest. It is handmade exhibiting early nailed construction drawers. It has pine drawer bottoms and back. The primary wood is walnut and the secondary wood is pine. Very nice inlaid false key holes that appear to be maple. It is likely from the Sheraton or Empire period. It measures 16" by 16" by 7" It is an absolute knockout when you see it in person. Pictures in no way do it justice. It is missing both end pieces for the top. Refinished Old Trunk - Unusual Size
I am relisting this beauty as the buyer did not follow through with purchasing this trunk. Up for auction today we have an unusual sized refinished trunk. Dating to the late 1800’s. It is rectangular in shape and measures 23 x 9.5 x 13.5 and is about 5 pounds. My 85 year old mother did an amazing job lining the inside with quilted floral fabric. Antique Civil War Era Trunk with Deer Skin Covering
For auction is an antique trunk with deer skin cover and remnants of a fringe. zThis trunk dates to the Civil War era and is in excellent condition for its age. Generally. With a trunk of this age, only pieces of the original leather covering remain. This one has 95+% of its original covering. Due to age, some of the sections are cracked and split as can be seen in the pictures, but- as is- it would be a handsome piece to display in your home. It retains its original handles and locking mechanism but I do not have a key. It id also decorated with round head brass tacks on all four sides and the top. Two nails show on the inside top left corner where they missed hitting the top side but this does not affect the integrity of the piece. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates.
