Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. Camel or Hump Back Style. Wooden slats across the top. Sides, front and back. The lock is yale. Has the greatest little clover or club design on it. The hardware is gorgeous. Victorian style, trunk style is common or the trunks produced in the late 1800's, 1880's. Large dome. Camel back style. Not slightly domed like some. Very likely belonging to someone from an upper class, usually camel back trunks were bought by people from higher classes, they were more expensive and people bought them b/c they were more beautiful, and b/c they would be placed on the top when they traveled. If their trunk was on top, they rationalized their trunks and belongings would be safer. The trunk is in great condition for its age. The latches however dont latch well. There is some rust on the metal on the Box and on the top of the metal tins but it is not major. Short Trunk Lock, spring-loaded, Nice Patina, with key and screws
I bought these brass plated locks when I was building replica steamer trunks in the early 1970s. They have a natural aged patina. The lock in the photo is typical. The locks in my inventory are the same age so the patina is pretty constant. The one you receive will be this one or a very similar lock. I will include wood screws with brass painted heads to use to install the lock; pre-drill 1/2" deep with 1/8" drill with these wood screws.

It is a rare design e4specially since most of us arn't tall enough to see inside the top row of drawers. Each row consists of either three smaller drawers across, or one large drawer. The entire piece of furniture is made up of two sections, the top and the bottom. The top of the piece fits into the bottom without needing any type of hardware to attach them togather. All that is needed is ... moreto set the top section inside the outer rim of the bottom section. About mis section there is a flat rather thin board which pulls out like one of the drawers, but is intended to act as a folding table. Also there is a very unique large drawer just above that folding one which offers four smaller drawers inside and also four cubby holes each with a compartment just under these little drawers. The entire piece is handmade from frame to finish The workmanship of the day was impeccable and the vaneering composition and application is completely without compare Each drawer is trimmed around the perimetor with a light maple of about a 1/2 inch all around. The chest is roughly two hundred and twenty years old. And I have to underscore just how stable and functional the piece is still. This is not a piece that one has to just look at, this is a full service, everyday working chest that still has many many years of service left in her. Of course certain care needs to be done to ensure that indeed the integrety of her beauty and construction live on and are not compromised. For your consideration is a ca 1880 dome top steamer trunk. I t has been fully refinished. The originally outside paper covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. The metal covering. Top and front, were sanded, primed and painted with lime green paint and then stain applied to give it an aged look. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The working lock comes with a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has a new tray. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key, & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Two Original Interior Trays Here is an absolutely beautiful fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. If you have been waiting for the magnificent trunk with a tremendous amount of hardware. Then this one is definitely the one for you. It is hard for us to find trunks throughout the year that are really nice like this one. Here are the trunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This beauty is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older ... moredistress marks which include nicks and dings in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these older character marks or distress marks, most of which have accumulated over time. The edge banding on the sides of this trunk is made up of some type of composition. It has some typical small splits or stress cracks in it, one of which we have shown in a close up picture so there won't be any surprises. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, therefore we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker went all out and put lots of fancy hardware on this trunk. This beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. Look at the close up picture and you will see it is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn" We have matched up a key for you that does work properly with this lock. This trunk originally came with leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away and missing, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the same location where the original ones did. Up for consideration is a nice steamer trunk with a lift out tray. It is a Duguid Bros. Wall Trunk from Toledo. Ohio. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. The hinges are dated Dec. 22, 1891. The inside has been tastfully recovered with original lable visable. It is a nice trunk that is sturdy. The measurements are; 30" long x 18" wide x 20" tall. This is an antique steamer trunk. Used for transportation of personal items while traveling by train or the like. The production date is estimated to be pre-1900. You will find this to be a beautiful piece. The condition is a bit rough but as expected for an item that has been used extensively. Imagine this being loaded onto a train car in the early 1900's. I consider it to be in working condition though since the hinges and latches still work. However the key is missing. Some of the leather straps are missing as well but can be replaced for a reasonable price. This would be perfect for use in your entryway. Or for a coffee table or end table. This is a seldom seen. Early, iron banded trunk with brass button-head nails. I estimate it to be from the 1840s. This trunk has a small shape for such a"massive" trunk. It measures 24" long. 10" wide, and 10" high. The wood used on this trunk is Poplar, and the boards are up to 1" thick! Very heavy duty for such a small trunk. The trunk has been restored in such a way as to retain its antique beauty, and this includes exact reproductions of the original interior, and leather handles. This trunk has early style Brass over lead large head nails on the bands, valance, and handles. Antique 1886 Pressed tin croc/alligator trunk w/insert tray in very good cond.
Truly beautiful antique 1886(marked) trunk with pressed tin made to look like alligator or crocodile. That is so good that it fooled me when I bought it out of an estate in Hartford, CT last month. Did not get to open it until I got home and then I got the best surprise.The interior insert drawer is in fabulous condition but does have wear to the edges! I have done nothing to this trunk but clean the exterior and put two layers of satin spray laquer on it to protect it. There was only light rust that came off easily, the interior is completely untouched. There are tiny wheels inset to the bottom so you can move it around easily. The interior hinges that keep the top from falling all the way back when opened need to be reattached and there are no leather handles. There is a crack across the inside of the inner wood decoration as seen in the ... morepics, otherwise not much expected age wear. Measures 26 inches long, 16 wide and 14 high with curved top sides. There is a key but I do not know if it is original, although it does work. Please see all pics, enlarge and ask any questions before bidding. Antique/Vtg 1880's Camel/Humpback Trunk w/Metal/Tin Alligator Panels
Antique Camelback Trunk Nice vintage trunk approximately 28"L by 15 1/2"D by 17 1/2"H. Made around 1880, the metal clovers? on top read(pat'd Mar 16, 1880) it is trimmed with pressed metal panels made to look like alligator skin. The trunk is solid, the bottom wheels are all in good working condition, the lid is firmly attached and it has it's inside drawer. It has wear to the surface paint, the leather side straps are missing/damaged, it looks like the front center latch was re-attached years ago with a small metal plate added, and there is a small hole in the metal along the front right edge(tried to show in picture) There maybe other small issues I missed or forgot to mention but overall this is a very nice decorative trunk that will display well. This is a GREAT 19TH CENTURY MINIATURE CHEST OF DRAWERS. A low boy with three drawers and height comparisons. It measures 8 wide, 6 high, 5 deep. The drawers are all complete and the secondary wood is oak as well. This is made in traditional colonial fashion. There has been ink spilled on the front right corner, as probably would happen in real life. It looks true to real life. Antique Victorian Table-top Cutlery Canteen. Oak Cabinet w 5 Drawers Elkington& Co Liverpool Circa 1900 Marked'Elkington& Co. Silversmiths, Liverpool' An solid oak table-top cutlery canteen with heavy brass carry handles. It has two arch panelled doors. With brass knobs and a sprung stud locking system(but no key, alas) which open to reveal 5 fitted drawers, also with brass handles. The doors reveal a brass inlay plate with the name Elkington& Co- as per the above markings. Cutlery people will be disappointed to learn that the drawers are empty and no longer fitted for cutlery. They are beatifully lined with velvet. And it is obvious that this has been used as a collectors cabinet, a function for which it is ideally suited. It has some problems. None of which detract from the overall appearance or function- but this is ... moretoo nice a piece for me to attempt repairs. A piece of wood, about an inch long has been lost from above the door hinge, on the top right hand side, and the solid oak back panels have shrunk, and have been carelessly glued back into place- and stand a little proud. I have a dilemma. In that the previous owner applied trim under the base of the cabinet to fit securely into an'ad hoc' stand. This is a more recent piece of oak, with a ply platform shelf, and was once probably a 1950s side table. It looks quite handsome on this'stand' the difference in colour and grain of wood is not too glaring, and could well suit those who want to use it as a collectors cabinet. I have decided to sell it with the'stand' included in the asking price. But if you do not want the'stand' I will deduct £10.00 from anty final agreed price, and you will likely save a substantial amount on postage- especially overseas buyers. Finally. It follows that those who want to return this to its original form, as a stand-alone table top cabinet, will have to remove the thin wood trims on the base, and(ideally) find some suitable feet- the holes in the base indicate that there w
