Hinged to reveal a fitted dimension as shown above. We searched extensively on the internet to find information about this piece of history and all we could find is as explained below: Hirschfelder& Meaney was established in 1893. With offices and salesrooms at No. 22 Sutter Street. Its factory was located at Twentieth and Florida streets in San Francisco and covers an area of eleven thousand square feet. The San Francisco Call Newspaper of November 16th 1911 listed their address to be on 519 Market Street and another internet search revealed they moved to Battery Street around 1913. Hirschfelder& Meaney was also listed in the 1926 San Francisco chamber of commerce publication as a chest maker with address at 36 battery street San Francisco. Earlier edition of same publication published in 1910 listed same company’s address to be 519 Market Street There are documentations published between 1910 and 1926 that made reference to this company. I have not seen any reference to the company after 1926. This however does not mean one is not out there and for this reason we listed this chest as mid to early 1920. Please do your research to get more information about this vintage chest. We have supplied all the information we had as of the time of listing. This one is a beauty. Up for auction today we have a refinished antique trunk dating to the 1830's- there was newpaper from that date inside when it was found in its"before" state. Originally leather covered, the leather was dried and tattered, worn and falling off- this trunk shines and is ready for any room in your home or office to provide much needed storage of important papers, photographs, or photo albums. Measures 27 x 14 x 10.5 inches- great, great size. I love the handles and amazing that they lasted all these years! Rare Antique Hide Trunk/Chest from South America
This is a rare antique leather and hide trunk or chest from the South American frontier. These were used by Gauchos to store items being carried on Llamas and by families for storing blankets and house hold items. The chest is very lightweight and has an inner rib like structure made of wood. The remainder of the chest is made entirely of hide or leather. It also has iron hardware on the front. The particular piece is from the estate of Joanne Hearst Castro; granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst. I believe it was from one of her estates in Santiago Chile. Finding these can be extremely difficult. Several antique dealers have priced the items from $1000 to well over $2500. You can see a few for sale on 1st dibs.

1800's dome hump camel back steamer travel chest trunk alligator skin design
Thanks for looking at my listing. This sale is for a very unique piece of history. It's called a steamer trunk dome style from the 1800's. Made of wood and metal. Great craftsmanship, there is a ton of detail available on this trunk. It's beautiful, and features an alligator skin"cover" over the center portion of the trunk, as well as on the sides. There's still the original victorian picture on the inside, and the tray is there as well. The trunk is damaged on the left hinge, and it appears someone at some point tried to fix it, but the wood split. A beautiful piece to have and restore, or just keep it the way it is for history sake. I don't know much else about it, like the origin, or how many families it went through. Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Reddish brown that is darker than it may appear in the flash photos. Although there is no evidence of its manufacturer. It was purchased for restoration in Maine, and its design and appointments mirror those of trunks produced in the Northeast between ... more1890 and the early 1900s. The bottom has been cleaned. Painted, and sealed with polyurethane so it safely sits on floors or carpets. The trunk is solid and clean and has absolutely no stale or musty odors. The hinges are tight and the lid fits securely when closed, yet opens easily. Although there is no key, and the lock does not work, the latches operate correctly. The inside has been cleaned. Sanded, and finished with golden oak stain and tung oil so it’s ready for use as storage or display. In addition to new leather handles. A ruggedly hand-hewn Antique hand-painted Mexican Wedding Chest from about 1800. Entirely hand crafted in Mexico. Corners have hand cut dovetails and carved wooden pegs secure the joints. The hand painted exterior finish has deteriorated over the 25 years it has resided in our 1810 Colonial. It needs an artist to bring back the originally vibrant rainbow of colors in preservation. The interior is painted with vivid color and is in an excellent state of preservation. Hardware is original hand wrought iron. Inside is a small compartment for valuables. The lock is missing and on this picturesque furniture. There is a hand painted"Anno 1780" date, an illegible inscription and swirly decoration that appears to be later. Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. This is a ca.1880 ladies hat trunk. It is 22.5"x 16.5"x 19.5"tall and weighs 22 lbs. Sometimes called a half trunk. It is solid pine with oak slats. The steel lock is original with a working key. The leather handles and straps have been replaced. The interior has been refinished and has a reprint of this trunks original lithagraph. The P. Brown label is original. The front latch haas no key the 2 sides flap locks work right side needs a little adjusting but it will close. As you can see some one painted the black over on the side but top looks like it was not also leather handles on side look to be redone with brand new heavy duty strap handles. from left to right its 28 1/2 inches wide then front to the back its almost 15 1/2 inches long then top to bottom its around 20 inches tall. any questions please ask. A barrel shaped drawer tops three smaller drawers. All finely dovetailed. The wonderful pressed glass knobs are original and add a little sparkle when the light hits them. The lower drawers are designed to open only when the top drawer is opened. When the top drawer is locked the entire case is secured.I do have the very nice steel& brass key) The face of the drawers is veneered in flame mahogany. The sides and top are solid woods. The case sits atop four turned ball feet. This chest is in very good overall condition with light wear and an older refinish. There are two small chips in the veneer. Victorian storage box or small ottoman which is also a useful pouffe. Stool or foot rest. Useful for general storage or as a sewing box or knitting box. It has a nice antique looking shape to it and is covered in the original dark gold velvet and embossed brown rexine(leatherette) on the top. This is a tough material and the flower embossing adds a decorative touch, as does the drop metal handle. The interior is also all original with a blue silky material that contrasts nicely with the exterior. It sits on little wooden feet but these appear to be replacements. It is in very good condition with only small bit of wear here and there and a bit of fading to the velvet. The interior is very clean.
