ANTIQUE Refinished DOMETOP Trunk - 1880's - GORGEOUS and HEAVY
Up for auction we have a beautiful antique Dome Top refinished trunk. Dating to the late 1880's. Sometimes referred to as a Bride's Trunk, or even a Saratoga- this trunk shines. Measuring 30 x 20 x 23, it is a great medium sized trunk. Outside has been refinished and the inside retains much of the original trays and compartments. The bottom portion of the trunk was cleaned and freshly papered with a cream white wall paper. Handles have been replaced, and original castors on bottom- trunk can roll, and thank goodness it can, because this beauty is heavy and weighs about 50 pounds. One of the things I love about this trunk is the second tray with all original canvas banding- no rips or tears- amazing that it is is this good of shape- and the letter keeper, I can just imagine the love letters being stored in that spot- I know I am too ... moremuch of a romantic- oh well. But please remember with any item over one hundred years, it is not perfect, there are travel bumps and bruises- see all photos. This is an antique ca.1875 ladies refinished pine hat trunk. It is 14"x 13"x 16.75"tall and weighs 17 lbs. It has steel banding with brass buttons. The solid brass hasp and lock plate are original. The key has been lost. The three leather handles and leather dust strap have been replaced per the original. The interior has a lift-out tray and a fold-down bonnet box with a money pouch. This is a beautiful steamer trunk made in the late 1800s. A steamer trunk is a small trunk originally designed to fit under the bunk of a steamship cabin. This trunk is extremely sturdy. The trunk doesn't have a key, but still secures by snapping up the metal hooks. This is an antique ca. 1885 ladies refinished travel trunk. It is sometimes called a hat or half trunk. It is 20.5"x 17"x 19.5" tall and weighs 23 lbs. It is constucted of solid pine with oak slats. Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. You might want to use this trunk to store your Civil War items, coins, or other personal valuables inside. Our trunks have been used to display teddy bear and doll collections. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. The interior wood is rough cut boards with the saw blade marks still on them. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in decent shape and we have finished the bottom with a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk overall cleaner. This listing is for what i believe to be a miniature humpback trunk for dolls. I have seen others listed as salesmen's samples. I don't know the difference. So, you be the judge. it seems to be in really good shape for it's age. please look at all the photos and ask questions. it measures 12" wide 8 7/8" deep and 10 1/4" tall, including the hump. It looks like a child used a crayon on the inside. Both leather handles are present. Print measures 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" Has one hinge on the right side. There is no evidence that the left side ever had a hinge so I do not believe it is missing. The metal work on the left top side of the inside is slightly bent. With some minor work and the use of a mallet it can be re-shaped. Absolutely amazing dome Steamer Trunk. Very nice black and wood look. In outstanding condition for its age. Has the top compartment and the original label that refers to the James Dooley company that made high end trunks and luggage in downtown New York City from the Mid to Late 1800s. Additionally it is adorned with many stickers and customs tags from the various places it traveled. Please see all pictures for detail. This trunk has had some work to it and may need a little fixing up if desired by new owner. It seems to have a lacquer like finish. Amazing Antique Round Top Trunk
We are offering an 1870’s. Round Top Trunk. The trunk measures, 30" length x 18" height and 15" width. This fabulous trunk is covered in Western Square Style paper. The inner lining is paper as well. The Wood Slats on the top of the trunk and front appear to be Oak. The bottom slats and construction wood appear to be poplar and the handles are wood as well. The lock latch looks to be hand forged. The nails are round/oval head square shaft. This is visible in the picture of the lid lock hardware, they were driven thru and clinched on the outside. A piece of wood nailed under the top to stop the crack and yes one of the corner legs is worn down a little but it still sits perfect still and have a lot of(CHARACTER) This is a nice size chest and could be a beautiful coffee table with the great pine wood that you will find in this very old chest. The Pine Wood is all Heart Pine and not 1 knot in all of the wood. You have boards that are 15" wide and all heart pine. The chest is 38" Long. The chest is 23 1/2" High. The chest is 24 1/4" from Front to Rear. You have photos of the square nails that date this chest. The 15" board is joined to a smaller board with a hand planed tongue and groove. You have a round large peg on each side as the top hinge pivot. You have hand carved strong handles on each side that look to be carved from hickory. When we got the chest it was super dry and looks like no kind of finish has ever been applied to the chest. We did a bee's was hand rub finish on the chest to make all of the great grain in the pine boards pop out. This little fellow weighs in at 85 lbs. so

19th Century Rosewood Campaign Chest/Hummidor Old estate find. This is a nice Antique Rosewood Campaign Chest complete with brass corners and side handles that fold flat against the chest. The chest sits on a small stand to elevate it from the floor, I don't know that it is original with the chest. Inside the chest is a metal lining, I am told it is lead. There is a label on the lid for"Benson and Hedges, Importer of Havana Cigars and Egyptian Cigars" there is an address for London and for Park Avenue in New York City, between Holland House and Waldorf Astoria, at the bottom of the label it says Pat'd 1901. updated information from a fellow ebayer- I have collected and restored many B&H humidors over the years. This is dove tailed and I think it was made around 1890 to 1900. The wood is pine and the size is 41 ½” long by 18” wide and it is 23 ½” high. This is in original condition and there are nicks from use and moving this from place to place. There is some areas that have the staining missing. The new owner can redo the blanket chest or let it in original condition. This will be pick up or you make arrangement for pick up. This trunk is an unusual size and shape measuring 36.5 x 21.5 x 26 with a top that is not quite flat but not quite domed either. The trunk is in un-restored condition(see condition details for more information) and a nice find with a large amount of decorative embossed tin on the outside. Wood slats going vertically and almost all of the original hardware and latches. Retaining the original reddish stain. Does have age appropriate expected wear. Measures 38" long, 16" wide and 1" high and has a early hinged lift lid top. In colonial America, blanket chests were constructed of various species of lumber ranging from inexpensive pines used for"country" type furniture to more expensive hardwoods such as walnut, cherry, and imported mahogany. The latter were used for more formal pieces of furniture that only the very wealthy could afford. As early as 1660, craftsmen in Massachusetts and Connecticut were fashioning paneled and carved oak chests, constructed of wide stiles and rails. These had ... morefloating panels with elaborately carved intaglio decorations. Instead of a paneled top in the English fashion, the Colonial chest had a plain pine board top. This unadorned top surface was ideal for seating and did not need cushions thereby making it more functional. In their crude fashion, these chests were the counterpart of the elaborate cas, armoires, and caskets owned throughout Europe by wealthy families. Many households would not do without one of these blanket chests as few homes had a source of heat within the bedroom. On chilly nights it was convenient to merely go to the end of the bed and extract more bed covers to keep warm. AMAZING RARE Antique Salesman Sample Chest of Drawers AAFA Old Furniture BEST
I don't usually list that many items on Ebay in the summer because it's too busy. But. When I find stuff that I know the Ebay community will go wild for, I list it. And I have 4 such lots up right now so be sure to check them out for some great American folk art pieces. This auction is for a stunning antique salesman sample chest of drawers. It's got just about everything going for it in both a folky and country way. Definitely one of the best of I've seen or had the pleasure to sell. It measures approx. 9" tall to the chest top. With the addition of a 2" splashboard. Approx. 10" wide and 6" deep. FRESH, FRESH, FRESH from a Northern NH estate and quite likely NH made. The cut out base is just awesome! Country elegance with folky charm. 3 drawers, with the top 2 being slightly graduated in size over the ... morebottom drawer. Original finish and just the way you'd like to find a piece like this. And the drawer pulls are incredible! Definitely original to the piece. Definitely brass hardware with what I think is inset sculpted and painted tin encased in a clear cover. Not quite sure if the cover over the insets is a thin piece of glass or not. Nice square-head nails all around, including the drawer sides. The splashboard is definitely original to the piece, but it has been reattached at some point as evident by different nails(not recently though) Wonderful early backboard, although I do believe there are a couple backboard pieces missing. Don't believe it's been cut down at all because the height of the feet is proportionate to the height of the cut outs on the base. There are 2 early screws on the backside of the front cut out and a couple small cracks. This is not visible when the piece is sitting and not certain whether the cracks and screws occured during making or after. Piece is solid as ever, great patina, just the right amount of dust on the edge of the inset panels on each side, stunning! These 2" X 2" X 1 1/2" trunk knees are NOT shiny. New brass plated pieces, they have a natural aged patina. I bought them when I was making replica trunks in the early 1970s. I have several hundred of them. The knees in the photo are typical. All the knees and corners in my inventory are the same age so the patina is constant. If they would benefit your projects, I have some with minor surface rust that wipes right off with Never Dull. It does leave spots and unique markings when wiped off; actually very pretty that way. These knees are perfect for building Steampunk furniture.

Rare Antique Maier Oak Slat Beveled Top Trunk, Vintage, Restored, Tray & Key!
Here is the trunk for your collection! This beautiful rare trunk was made by Martin Maier& Company of Detroit from the 1885 to 1895 period. Based on the actual dates of manufacture of the hardware. If you see a trunk with this type latch it was not made in the 1870's as many other sellers state. Because they were patented in 1882 and used into the late 1890's. I do extensive trunk research. Size: 30" wide. 22 1/2" tall, 20" front to back. A fabulous rare size, great for many uses! Very few Martin Maier slat trunks are found and even fewer flat tops with the beveled corners such as this one. This style was advertised in one of their catalogs as a"Rustic" trunk covered entirely with hardwood slats. Superior quality and based on the Excelsior trunk patent of 1868. Which most people now call Oak Slat Trunks ... moreor Victorian slat trunks. Maier established his trunk company in 1865 after serving in the Civil War. This special trunk is not common in any way! Martin Maier& Co developed their distinctive narrow slat alternating color style trunks and they are very hard to find in such good condition. These are made of hardwood strips of oak or elm and another darker wood, over an all wood body. These trunks were made to be impressive and were more expensive to make than the ordinary metal, leather, or canvas covered trunks. That's probably why they are so rare today. The special corner"lid stay" hinges are marked Pat'd April 1879 and were patented by Martin Maier too! The front catches were patented in 1882. All of the trunk's hardware is in good condition and the wood has no breaks or missing wood. No sand blasting, sanding, or polyurethane coating has been done on this trunk exterior as some other restorers do. The trunk has a very smooth finish, which is hand rubbed tung oil, the finest antique furniture finish. The interior is also beautiful with a large Victorian chromolithograph, and the Maier label! Very Old Antique Steamer Trunk With Original Lithographs and Tray
This is a very old antique steamer trunk with tray and with the original paper lithographs affixed to the inside of the dome lid. The large lithograph in the center shows an old man and woman sitting having tea with the old man appearing to be threading a needle. The smaller round lithos on each side of the paper shows a man carrying a trunk on his back and shoulders while a woman in the background appears to drop her luggage. The artists signature on the large litho is lower left and is very hard to read but may read"Lexington" The smaller round lithos do not appear to be signed. The paper does show tears. This is a nice antique steamer trunk for your collection. I purchased it with several antique dolls inside that dated from the 1880's. I am not sure of the exact age. As this is not my specialty. It measures 21" long, 11" deep and 9" tall. It is covered with leather/hide and still has some of the remaining fur. Handles are original and have been handmade. The paper inside appears to be the original lithographed covering. It is a nice sturdy trunk with no repairs. If you have any questions, please ask. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took.
