Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. Hand Carved Medium Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest. This is a medium and elaborately hand carved Chinese chest made of camphor wood with brass handle latch. An original different Chinese motif is exquisitely carved on five sides of the chest. Camphor is a natural repellent against moths and wood boring insects. It comes with the legs and screws to attach. You can see the legs inside the box in one of the pictures. Measures: 27 1/4 inches x 12 1/2 inches x 12 inches. The chest has a wonderful wood smell. Chinese families used camphor chests to store everything from blankets, clothes and linen to food and personal papers. Chests were often stacked one on top of the other to save space. Sometimes the chests were made of plain, solid camphor wood but, more often, ornate Chinese carvings of dragons, ships, people and animals decorated the chests.

1880's US Army Officer Wood Trunk
This very solid wood trunk has markings on the lid and front which clearly indicate the name Theo Schwan. The trunk features metal handles and corner brackets and is quite heavy. I've uploaded photos which I believe show the best markings. The lid shows the rank of Major. Wikipedia shows the name of Theo Schwan matches that of a retired US Army Major General Theodore Schwan. A Medal of Honor recipient who served in the Civil War(Battle of Peebles' Farm) the Indian Wars(Red River War and Great Sioux War) the Spanish Amer ican War. And the Phillipine-American War. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He also served with the Eleventh US Infantry regiment, commanding Company G at Fort Phantom Hill, Texas from 1870- 1873. Vintage Crystal Lake NY New York 4 Carved Wood Tree Trunk Souvenir Bowls Set
For sale is a set of 4 antique bowls that were obviously souvenir items as they all have Crystal Lake. N.Y. written on them in a black ink. They are quite beautiful in their rustic nature with the exterior being natural tree bark. This might have been some sort of smoking and tobacco set because the large item in Photo#2 is an ashtray with a glass insert. It has a few cigarette marks on the lip. The other three bowls might have held cigarettes, tobacco or matches. I don't think these were designed for food service. The lidded bowl in Photo#3 has a carved hole in the center but I can't imagine why it would have a hole. All in all, very beautiful! As a gauge of size, the ashtray item is 8" across. THIS AUCTION IS FOR PREVIOUSLY OWNED and USED Antique Carpenters Tool Chest Wood Tool Box First of all. I would like to say this box is NOT in perfect condition. Please read the descrition. I obtained this old box at an estate sale in Massachusetts It measures with the top closed appx. 37 5/8” across 23 5/8” deep and 23 ¼” tall with the top closed. It weighs appx. 135 pounds There are some cracks in the wood around the trim on the top of the box and other places. No major damage to the bottom of the box. The top middle portion of the lid has some issues. The wood has separated from the tops outside trim. It doesn't completely come apart; it still has a couple nails holding it together. The wood from the center seems kind of soft and from wear. Moisture or something. That part of the trunk appears to be a different type of wood, a ... moresofter wood from the rest of the trunk. You can see from the inside of the lid. There is also some damage and missing or broken trim. It is pretty loose from the top also. A few nails are holding it. The insert draws also have issues and have broken and cracked wood. In some places wood is actually missing. This is how I obtained it. The trunk has paint. Wear, scrapes and scratches. It even shows signs of moisture stains and is a little dusty and dirty. There are a couple old screws missing from the brass corners. The person I obtained this trunk from told me that it had belonged to his Great Grand Father that lived in Dana Massachusetts and was a woodworker back when Dana was a town. The box was just passed down. The box was stored in his basement and he needed to get it out to make room. It was filled with tools at the time but I took them out of the box. The tools are not included in this action. There are a couple things that do give up this trunks age. The lock(There is no key to the lock) is stamped“ L Yale Jr’s Patent Jan. 29. 1861 Jun. 27 1866“ Also. You can see on the side of the box there is a paper Railroad baggage ticket pasted to the side. It has been stripped to the bare wood on the inside and out and is a very clean trunk. The one thing I would point out is that there is a crack in the top as show that is just due to age and adds some old time charm to it. It has been stripped. Cleaned, stained and has 2 coats of laquer. The finish is very slick and smooth. The trunk is in good physical condition. 1900's Antique Yale & Towne Steamer Trunk Chest Wood Leather Brass
This is a great antique trunk that at one time was used by Lumpee& Russ Harness Makers; I cannot make out the rest of the wording. The trunk is structurally solid. The valet tray has two holes but this could be nicely refinished. The top tray has two sections with one that does have the leather/button loop closure intact. There is no key in the locking mechanism that was made by Yale Towne MFG out of Stamford. Conn. It weighs just under 55 pounds. This is being sold as is. If you live on the I-5 corridor on the west coast(Washington, Oregon and California) I have a shipper. Vintage camelback steamer trunk with decorative stamped tin on top. Front and sides. This is a small trunk as the dimensions show below. More manageable size than some of the very large ones I've seen. As you can see from the pictures the tin has developed a beautiful greenish patina. All natural and from what I can tell untouched as far as being refinished. It takes a long time to get that type of patina in the metalwork. It looks really awesome. Some original paper still remains on inside. Has built-in casters. Handles are rotted away as most are on the trucks 100 years old. It measures 30"Long x 16"Deep x 19"Tall. Antique Victorian Slightly Arched Wood Slat Steamer Trunk Chest
Up For Sale is this awesome antique trunk. It has M.F.M. initialed on the side. The trunk is very solid and has a lot of character. It is a green color. It only has a slight arch on the top. So it would be great for a coffee table or to store blankets and such. It is good shape for the time and could be easily restored. There is no structural damage. The only damage is that on of the latches is missing some pieces and the leather is worn. Both of the handles are intact, but as you can see in the photo one is coming apart. Antique Vintage Wood Doll Handkerchief Glove Box Trunk Latch & Bentwood Handles
Fresh from an upstate New York estate! This offering is for a primitive light wooden box or doll trunk measuring 12" wide. 6 1/4" deep and 5 1/2" high. I believe it to be a handmade doll trunk as I found a primitive"Mammy" rag doll and an old celluloid doll inside(sold separately) but it could have also been used as a glove or handkerchief box. The trunk consists of wood panels nailed together with three narrow slats attached on top and one on the front. The wood finish is richly aged but there are stains near the old nail heads- which only gives it more character. To each end there is a bentwood handle. These look like they were an afterthought to the original construction. The front has an old aged tin lever latch. When the lever is vertical the box is latched shut. When flipped to the left, the box latch is open. ... moreInside the cover is attached a paper picture of a Victorian dressed woman. The bottom of the trunk is papered but the paper is stained and torn. A strap of burlap to the left side is no longer attached to it's nail to hold the cover from flopping back. The only splits in the wood slats are two short edge splits on the bottom. Each is aprox. 2" long and does not affect the structural integrity of the box.
