This is a large and elaborately hand carved Chinese chest made of wood with brass handle latch. An original different Chinese motif is exquisitely carved on five sides of the chest. It comes with legs that can be attached. You can see the legs in one of the pictures. SIZE: L27 x D12 x H12" Condition: Overall it is in excellent shape without any cracks or major chips. some of the paint/finish seems to be fading in some areas but nothing major. Original Restored Civil War Era Early 1800s Wood Trunk. Great for Reenactments!
ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR ERA WOOD TRUNK(Restored& Slightly Modified) Offered is this great looking deer hide covered trunk that was restored and refinished at some point in its life. I modified it slightly for personal use during reenactments by adding my brass initials. A Dragoon hat badge and stencil on the backside. It is well built, solid and has nice iron handles and original locking mechanism(no key) The backside on these early 1800's trunks were often left uncovered as this one appears to be so. It measures approximately 15"in width, 13" in height at the peak of the domed lid and 29 1/2" in length. Overall, it is in very nice condition. I left the brass and stencil on this chest because if it does not sell, I will continue to use it. Nice Old Antique Trunk. I am not sure of the exact age. But the lock on it is from Eagle Lock Co. Eagle lock was in business from 1833-1954. So the age of the trunk lies in that time frame. It is adorned with black metal trim and ornate brass accents. This old trunk does show it's age in places. But there is nothing major. A few nicks, and there are a few dents or ding marks in the black metal trim. On the top front you will see there is 2 areas of chipped or worn off wood, a small amount enough to where wood putty filler should be an easy fix if you wish. There is also a very small chip place on the side you can see in pic 6. One of the hinges on the back is missing one button, see pic 9, and there is some separation on some of the brass corner pieces you can see in pic 12. I think I have mentioned every flaw. But please see all the ... morepictures for the best description. For a trunk this old I consider its condition to be normal. Also, this would make a nice coffee table. the top is flat. Wood Chest on a Wood Stand(top chest removes from base) The chest itself measures about 18" across x 12-1/2" wide 10" in height(stands 21-3/4" in height w/ the base) The wood chest is a distressed brown stain finish w/ metal decorative front closure and side handles. Chest has dovetailed construction. I think this is pine wood, not sure. The base is a black stain finish. Very nice condition. I used in my closet area and used for storing my evening bags. It really wasn't used very much and being in a closet there was no sunlight or wear visibility. The wood chest removes from base. Combined weight is about 12- 13 lbs. unpacked. Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. Vintage Embossed Metal Covered Wood Box/Trunk, Horses Pulling Plow Handmade
This large handmade box/trunk is such a great find! It is a solid wood box completely covered in embossed brass colored metal/tin. The design. Which is on the top and front, is a scene of a farmer and his Clydesdale work horses pulling a plow through the field. The sides are an embossed filigree. The metal sheet was cut, embossed and applied to the wood with small nails. There are 2 brass hinges attaching the lid and a safety chain to keep the lid from falling back. This piece measures 20" long. 15" high and 14" wide. It sits on 4 rubber feet which may have been added later. There are some issues with discoloration on the front just above the horses and on one side. Something must have dripped on it and changed the color(see photos) The hinges have rust on them. Normal wear and tear from many years of use. I believe this piece ... moreis quite old and very unique. It was purchase in an antique shop in Tampa so I don't know who may have made it. This is an antique trunk that I purchased over 12 years ago from an antique dealer in CT. It has raised metal sides. I believe they are tin. The inside has worn fabric and a hidden trap door. It is a really cool and if I had room I wouldn't part with it. I used it as a coffee table. The measurements are approximately 30 1/2" long X 17 1/2" wide X 20" high. This is a beautiful antique Chinese camphor wood trunk from the 1940s made of excellent quality and construction. It is of good size and measures 21x40 inches on the bottom and 23 inches in height. As you can see every side has a paneled appearance which is quite unique. To do this panel work took a lot of additional time and effort. Much more so than a typical trunk with no carved decoration. The interior has great top quality brass work which includes the hinges and the lid bar, pictured. IT also comes with one pull out tray for convenience. There is a brass Asian lock on front, it even comes with a Chinese style lock which ... moreis quite unique compared to American locks. The interior is all camphor wood which keeps moths away from destroying wool clothes. The exterior almost seems like mahogany but i believe it is stained camphor wood or similar chinese wood made to look like mahogany. I have seen a number of camphor trunks in my time but this is really one of the finest quality trunks i have seen from the Asian market. It is in super original condition with a clean finish. We would prefer that the winning bidder pick this up in person but we know that is not always possible. Antique Vintage 1800's J. L. George Wood Hand Carved Chinese Trunk/Chest
This is a hand carved J.L George wood trunk. The inner inscription reads J.L. George 895 Avenue Rd. Tel 34732 Chinese beaux arts carving furniture in wood. Carving furniture in jade stone. Carving furniture in brass. Carving chest. Made in China. I believe it is from the late 1800's or early 1900's. A friend of my father's brought this back from a trip he took to Shanghai in 1929. The exterior has some exquisite hand carving as shown in the photos. It is in great condition. The top does have some fading. As if it sat in the sunlight for a period of time, and some minor scratches. Please see photos. It measures 20 inches wide, 21 inches tall, and 40 inches in length. The brass hardware is all in excellent condition. The interior seems to be in exceptional shape, with the only blemish being some mild buckling up of the wood on the ... morebottom, in one area. Unusual Antique/Vintage Advertising Clock Set in Wood Tree Trunk
This is probably one of the most unusual clocks I have seen. It was advertising of some kind. I think insurance maybe. I can't make out the first work or two. Of Valued Business Favors" is on top line with a word or 2 preceding it. Under that is"Prompt Settlements" The 2" brass clock was set in the middle of a 6" slab o tree trunk. Then there is a 1 3/4" round peg that must have fit in another piece to make it stand. There is no maker name. This is really unusual and I'd like to know more about it. The brass tab on the front says"Eagle Lock Co. U.S.A. No key comes with the trunk. The metal framing is loose in some parts on the bottom. But still attached to the box securely. There is some wear to the exterior paper covering on the box(see photos) There is a crack in the wooden back of the box underneath the hinged lid, but the lid is still very securely fastened to the box. Very old trunk. I got it from an elderly friend of mine-in her 90's. The trunk belonged to her aunt-so it has to be at least a hundred years old if not more. It is 19 inches wide. 13 1/4 inches deep, 32 inches long. Lid is 3 1/2 inches deep and inside is 9 inches from the edge to bottom. The trunk is wood with metal bottom with 3 2 inch brace boards for support. There are metal bands for support on all edges and corners.The bottom and lid have a crack length wise. Leather handles on side rotted off. Back and front leather straps are rotted off. Has original hardware and hinges- front and back. Missing hinge on left side inside lid. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Dings, scratches, rusty hinges, a piece missing out of the clasp top.it looks pretty rustic! But I like it! I think all the wear just adds to the vintage look& patina! Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Here is some history related to the Eagle Lock Company that provided the locks for many steamer trunks. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. The bottom of lid is partially labeled"produce of USA united packing company" circled(27) The interior sides read"deluxe quality" and"pack" The top of lid is a beautiful bow type top it's thick and smooth from years of use. The entire piece is securely put together with tiny nails. Beautiful wood grain piece. Box is hinged with old brass hinges see pictures for more detail.
