AMERICAN FEDERAL WALNUT TALL CHEST OF DRAWERS WITH FLUTED COLUMNS Pennsylvania. C. 1810-20 Item# 410KPP11A A distinct transition into the Federal Period. This fine Pennsylvania Tall Chest of Drawers exhibits the classical architecture of the Chippendale era adapted for the Neoclassical taste of the early 19th Century. Retaining it's original oval pulls, these with roses embossed inside an infinite double loop and entirely untouched feet, this is a particularly desirable object for collectors. The concave crown molding is bold, aggressively projecting over the unembellished case of three small drawers over five graduated full drawers. The sides of the case extend through the feet, making the interior blocking of the feet an integral part of the case and something permanent- much of the reason the feet have survived in such extraordinary ... morecondition. The backboards are untouched and typical of the period with neat rows of square forged iron nails affixing the backboards to the case. Each drawer is of fine craftsmanship. The tidy hand dovetails crisp and perfect, the pine plank bottoms chamfered on the sides and front to be set in grooves along these edges; all drawers are tacked at the back edge with three hand forged nails. Protecting the contents of one drawer is a full dust board, the other drawers with partial dust boards over the first one-third. Flanking the drawers are the deeply fluted Corinthian columns with turned bases and caps so commonly found in chests of this region. As a well preserved and absolutely stunning object of Early Pennsylvania. Particularly interesting for the meld of Federal and Chippendale designs and it's very fine craftsmanship, this is an outstanding investment grade work of art that was built to last and if well cared for will last long beyond our lifetimes. AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS OVER OGEE FEET Pennsylvania c. 1790 Item# 410QNP11W A bold and impressive object. This fine American Chippendale Tall Chest of Drawers originates in southeastern Pennsylvania, possibly the Delaware River Valley. The craftsmanship is impeccable, the cabinetmaker choosing vivid walnut planks carefully to showcase the most important and striking aspects of the chest. Note in particular the wonderful flowing grains along the sides of the case, the overall horizontal flow of the grain along the front of the drawers lapsing in random swirls and burls of the plank. The case is crested by cove molding projecting over three small drawers, two medium drawers and four broad drawers- all carefully graduated to flow harmoniously together. Noteworthy are the two drawers with patches, not unusual for these cases ... morewith overhanging lips on the drawers- these are particularly susceptible to being damaged when a drawer is closed unevenly or too harshly, as is probably the case with one or both of these drawers. The repairs were done rather competently, the restorer having to carefully choose boards with at least as much figure as the neighboring parts of the drawers. The drawers are embellished with replaced pierced brass hardware. The frames handsomely dovetailed white pine with integral runners mitered to accept the chamfered white pine bottom, mostly crafted of a single huge plank of pine, this tacked along the back edge with iron nails. The drawers are flanked by fluted corinthian columns with turned caps and bases, the whole case resting over very striking and significant ogival feet. They project an unusual sense of strength and masculinity, each with soft scroll cut returns and resting over thin blades. The back of the case shows the simple and tidy construction we expect from the best craftsmen of this region, the triangular rear foot supports dovetailed into the facings for a permanent joint. MINIATURE Walnut Stained Chest of Drawers with Marble Top Salesman Sample c 1900
This is a larger sized miniature chest of drawers that measures 16” wide x 8 ¾” deep x 14 ¾” high. It has four drawers and a heavy green marble inset top– note that the marble is simply inset in the top and can be removed. Though it fits perfectly(see photos of the top with and without the marble inset) The chest has fluted wood columns on the sides of the drawers with small metal Doric style capital and bases. The knobs are a turned metal. The chest sits on bun feet. This chest was probably made as a salesman sample or apprentice piece– or perhaps for a child for her dolls? The detail is amazing and it’s very well made. I’m not sure of its age. Though I would estimate sometime between 1890 and 1910. Antique 18th Century Walnut Queen Anne Highboy Chest of Drawers 1725-1750
Description Fine 18th century highboy with beautiful burl walnut veneer and cabriole legs ending in club feet. Made in New England. Torus molding below the cornice is the front to a hidden drawer. This is an earlier highboy and was made circa in 1725-1750. Provenance: Northeast Auctions. Portsmouth, NH. Dimensions 69 inches high. 22 inches wide, and about 18.5 inches deep. 69x22x38 Condition The condition of the highboy is very good for its age. It is structurally sound with nice color. The are some places where small amounts of the veneer is missing(see photos) But this is normal for a pieces of this age and I don't believe it takes away from its appearance. Also, the molding on the left side of the upper right small drawer is missing. I have just ignored this, but if it bothers you it would be an easy fix. Antique 1800s Dresser 19th Century Chest of Drawers Walnut Wood FREE SHIPPING
19th Century Chest of Drawers This is a fantastic piece of historical furniture. This is a chest of drawers or dresser from the early to mid 1800's. It appears to be constructed primarily of walnut wood. There are several distinguishing features that influence our opinion as to the date of this piece: The dresser was constructed with square-head nails. Which were used from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. It is constructed of solid-wood boards measuring up to 16" in width. Which could only have been made from very large trees long ago. The dovetails used to construct the front and back of the drawers are all hand-cut. The smallest drawer has 3 tails and 4 pins. And the larger drawers have up to 5 tails and 6 pins. The drawer bottoms are chamfered, meaning the front and side edges and the drawer bottoms are finished at ... morea slop. While the inside top of the drawer is flat. This was cut and finished by hand-held tools, which is an indication that it is pre-1840. All of the saw cuts in the wood appear to be parallel rather than circular. This indicates the use of mill saws during construction. The wood also appears to be hand-planed. The dresser features turned-wood pulls. Which we believe to be original. It also has paneled sides, which was a feature in many early Philidelphia chests of drawers. This piece is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There is a significant crack in the drawer second from the top. It is still structurally sound. All of the drawers have locks, but we do not have the matching key. This piece has cracks, wear, chips, discoloration and repairs that are consistant with a piece of this age. The"flaws" only contribute to the primateive nature of this chest of drawers. They quietly tell the stories of its life. The dresser measures 45 7/8" tall by 42 5/8" wide by 20" deep. The drawer faces are all 36" wide. The height of the drawer faces from top to bottom are: 1st- 9 3/4" 2nd- 5 3/4" 3rd- 6 3/4"

Herman Miller Gilbert Rohde Designer Gilbert Rohde(1894-1944) was born and raised in New York. The son of a cabinetmaker. He left high school to pursue a variety of jobs, landing a short stint at a local paper, the Bronx News, drawing political cartoons. In 1923 he turned the experience into a job as an illustrator at the Abraham& Strauss department store. Inspired by a trip to the Paris Exhibition in 1925, Rohde began designing furniture and his early work was sold at Lord& Taylor. An exuberant modernist, his pieces gleaned simplicity and rationalism from Bauhaus design and a sense of form and ornamentation from Art Deco. He worked predominantly in Bakelite and chrome, the materials that made up the visual vocabulary of the period. Between 1927-28 Rohde designed the interiors for Avedon fashion stores. Where his wife was part of ... morethe advertising team. Heywood-Wakefield of Massachusetts began picking up his designs in 1930, with a bentwood chair being one of their most successful pieces. Restless for a more substantial opportunity, he went west to Grand Rapids, Michigan where companies like John Widdicomb and Herman Miller had turned the city into a hub of furniture design and manufacturing. Rohde attracted the interest of Herman Miller and began designing for them in 1931. The company had been making traditional pieces and historical reproductions and was close to bankruptcy when they accepted Rohde`s modern work in a last ditch attempt to stay afloat. Apparently the miracle they needed, Rohde convinced them that modernism was the reigning style and proved it with his designs for bedroom furniture shown at the 1933 Chicago World`s Fair. Fortified by their updated image, Herman Miller had Rohde design entire sets for living and dining rooms and began making plans to halt their production of traditional pieces. PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT ANTIQUE CHEST OF DRAWERS Probably Delaware River Valley c. 1780. Feet& brasses replaced Item# 411PKP29A This precious little American Chippendale bachelor's chest of drawers is a fine representation of rural Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Probably originating from the Delaware River Valley region. The chest is distinct for it's marvelous display of swirling walnut throughout the drawers and particularly in the top of the chest. This chaotic furling of the grain is almost coordinated between the drawers, the craftsman matching swirls only subtly to give cohesion to the facade. The construction is typical of the region. The drawers crafted with tulip poplar woods in the frame with the white pine planks in the bottom set perpendicular to the face against the rabbets in the sides with runners applied over ... morethis. Original rosehead nails tack the back edge of each drawer bottom and are strengthened with triangular blocks along the lip. Some care was shown in crafting the feet. All of which are 20th century replacements. With a robust sense of presence, the feet appear to be faithful representations of what would have been on the chest originally. While unfortunate that the feet have been lost, it is a relatively common issue due to the immense pressure the feet remain under and their susceptibility to breakage during moving. The price of the chest is reflective of the replaced feet, as a chest of this very attractive size and form should command an upper four figure market value with original feet. Any collector of period American furniture. Particularly anyone who enjoys the masculinity and rural qualities of Delaware River Valley furniture, will certainly cherish this fine bachelor's chest. Preserved in nearly untouched condition Item# 411DXP29A This unusually striking American Chippendale blanket chest is distinguished by the open dovetailing of the case. This following from the sides through the feet to accentuate the hand crafted nature of the object. Pennsylvania craftsmen during the late 18th century built these pieces to be family heirlooms that could pass from one generation to the next and the quality of craftsmanship was something they took pride in and openly advertised- while other work centers sought to hide the dovetail, being simply a means of joining one plank to another, clientele in this region expected excellent joinery and examined it as part of the purchase process. As a result, the dovetail became something of an art form, this ... moreexercised to it's fullest in the presentation of the case. Remaining in nearly undisturbed condition with only minor repairs. The chest retains not only it's original brasses and all original hardware but also untouched feet- these are beautiful statements of purity in construction, the entire underside revealing only wooden peg joinery with no glue or nails. A back foot support and accompanying block are separated from the underside, allowing you to see exactly how the blocking perfectly fits together inside of the foot(see pictures in the slideshow) The drawers are constructed in the typical manner of the region. The poplar secondary woods hand dovetailed in the frame with the two-board bottom half-lapped at the joint, chamfered along the sides and set in grooves, allowing them to expand and contract freely. They retain their original brasses and locks, though it is possible the middle drawer has a replaced bottom since the two planks are not half-lapped and the end grains show some variation. Solid walnut with pine secondary wood construction. 3 over 2 over 4 lip moulded drawers. A desirable configuration. All drawers are dovetailed, with hand chamfered drawer bottoms, and yellow pine secondary woods. The cornice moulding is the original. As well as all of the interior drawer slides and back boards. The surface is a 1920-1930's refinish. It has mellowed over the years and looks pleasing. One might consider this a"mid-case" since it's only 58 1/2" tall. Each drawer was constructed with hand cut dovetails, a sign of age and craftsmanship. Tall bracket feet finish the piece off nicely at the bottom. You will notice that the top and bottom mouldings appear to have been done in sections. We believe this was intentional and it does not appear like repairs. The wood has developed crackling over the drawer fronts and top surface. This gives the chest a distressed look and provides character and charm to an already lovely dresser! Other minor dings and marks can be found here and there as you would expect from something of this age. Overall this burled walnut chest of drawers is in very good condition. It is walnut and even though some of the boards on the back have been replaced they are walnut also. The drawer runners have been replaced so that the drawers work easily. Other than than and the back. It is all orginal. The top has had some minor repair that is shown in two of the pictures. The piece has 4 drawers, top one extends out over the rest giving it a very elegant look. The top is 45" wide, 21 1/2" deep at the top drawer and 20" deep the rest of the way down. This is a 100 year old Tramp Art small chest of drawers that hangs on the wall. It is made of walnut and maple and the drawer interiors are old cigar box reuse. It measures 20 inches tall. 10 inches wide and 6 1/4 deep and has four grades in size drawers. There is a mirror in the top portion. This is in good vintage condition. There is very little finish on the piece so it could be waxed or oiled. The mirror has some silver flaking. There is a hole behind each triangular cachepot near the top for hanging on the wall. I have owned this for 35+ years.

Rare Antique Solid Walnut Wood Dentist Wall Cabinet/Jewelry Box Chest of Drawers
Very Unusual Antique Dentist Wall Cabinet/Jewelry Box/Chest This rare and very unusual antique dentist wall cabinet is made of solid walnut and dates from around the 1910's to the 1920's. The secondary wood used to construct the drawers is solid maple. The drawer fronts are all 15 5/8" wide and the insides all measure 14 3/4" wide and 8" deep. The top three drawer fronts are 1 1/2" high. The fourth is 2 5/8" high and the fifth or bottom drawer is 4 1/8" high. The glass knobs have a hexagon shape and are probably not original to the cabinet. The top shelf is 3 3/4" deep and the second shelf or lower compartment with the mirrored back measures 2 3/8" deep once the glass door is down. There are two sturdy metal brackets protruding from the back for mounting the cabinet to the wall. The top counter ... moresurface can be fitted with a 1/8" to 1/4" thick glass top to protect the surface(it appears to have had one at one time) Each of the top three drawers on both sides are divided into 18 sections, each 2 3/8" x 2 1/8" The dividers, sides and bottoms are covered with white velvet material.
