American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. Probably Philadelphia or the Delaware River Valley, c. 1770-80 Item# 130108OSP25 This is an excellent example from the Philadelphia or Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. A fine American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers c. the third quarter of the 18th Century 1770-80. Of quite desirable proportions, the chest has a refined presence with well preserved color in the walnut case. The quality of the chest is self evident, the top with a sandwiched molding wrapping around the rim, projecting slightly over the front and deeply over the back- this allowed the chest to rest flush with the wall despite the thick floor molding. Each of the graduated drawers has a molded lip of the solid. The faces solid walnut, the sides and bottom crafted of poplar: these are hand dovetailed, ... morethe bottoms deeply chamfered and slid into rabbets in the sides; the riven bottom boards run perpendicular to the face, nailed at the back with(mostly) original wrought iron rosehead nails with white pine blocks fitted in the chamfered edges along the sides. Original steel locks are retained in the drawers, locks now absent, the brasses replaced with period batwings- the chest had Federal oval brasses placed on it at one point, that owner drilling new holes very close to the original holes; the current brasses are in those same later holes. The back of the chest is joined with two original hand planed planks nailed around the perimeter. The top and bottom join to the chest with hidden dovetails. Evident in the score marks on the inside of the case. The feet are preserved in almost entirely original condition other than age appropriate repairs(noted below) the form of these ogee bracket feet is above reproach, a fine scroll cut swirl that has robust flare to it and terminates in a bladed edge. The blocking of the feet is intricate and likely the reason the feet have survived in such good condition; large triangular blocks support the thick corner block, these carved to fit

Round figured knobs appear to be original. Drawers have hand-cut lap dovetails and cockbeading of the type brought into use starting in the 1770s. Overall condition is excellent. There is a chip approximately 1" long from the veneer along the front right edge. Which no doubt can be easily repaired by a professional. Overall condition of the veneer is excellent, but there is some buckling on the left side of the piece, consistent with its age. Bottom features bracketed feet and an elegant shaped skirt on front and sides. American Queen Anne Inlaid Walnut Chest of Drawers Probably Southeastern. Pennsylvania c. 1745-65 Item# 130106PXP17 An absolute visual dance. This is a rare and wonderful American Queen Anne Chest of Drawers executed in Walnut from Southeastern, Pennsylvania c. 1745-65. The top is embellished with restraint. Centermost inlaid with a four-leaf-clover flanked by notched corner spandrels and framed in a projecting molding. Featuring two small drawers over three long drawers. The facade is entirely graduated both in terms of drawer size and scaling of the ovular inlaid designs. Faint scars are visible at the center of each half-circle, the walnut still retaining the impression of the artists compass when tracing these formations. The top drawer is protected with a dust board. Keeping dirt and wood rubbings from the clothing, while the other drawers ... morewere crafted without dust boards. In terms of construction. Each drawer is separated with a rounded drawer blade that notches into the rounded stiles of the case. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms flat and nailed along the back edge, each crafted of(apparently) white and yellow pine in the sides and bottom; the drawer fronts are walnut veneer over pine. The backboards were removed at one point, the original boards reattached using modern nails. The sides of the case are two boards of walnut. Each match-booked from the same board to result in a nearly symmetrical grain flow on one side and the other. While the feet are replaced. They are of similar form to many Queen Anne chests of Southeastern Pennsylvania crafted in the same period of years; the most noteworthy oversight is the inset of the feet- these should be flush with the molding to be more appropriate, and their color has faded differently than that of the overall chest. Other minor adjustments/repairs are evident in the chest, including the somewhat odd runner between the two smaller drawers: this does not tenon into the back or find any security in the frame, but rather ends somewhat

The dresser was an antique. That tells me it is at least 60 years old. I think it is walnut wood. I also think it is veneer. Please understand that I am not a wood expert so I could be wrong. For your consideration, this beautiful Burl Walnut Victorian Lock-side Chest of Drawers with Fold-Out Desk(Circa: 1880) This handsome Victorian Lock-side Chest has its original intact lock and a working key and measures 57” in height, 36 ¾” in width, and 20” in depth. The weight is approximately 120 pounds. The top of this handsome chest is graced with scalloped mounding. And incised carved linear designs with burl sconces on the top corners. The front sides of this lovely chest are adorned with incised carved burl sconces on the top corners that extend into fluted detailing and incised carved pediments. The original locking mechanism is intact on this gorgeous chest and a working key is included. Notice the fancy brass key escutcheons. This beautiful chest appears to have six drawers, but the third drawer ... moredown opens to reveal a fold-out desk compartment which consists of five pigeon-holes, a new black felt writing surface, birds-eye maple surface, along with beautiful pierced side galleries with sunflower carved details. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides,drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. The burling looks like a storm cloud/ball of fire.The cabinet maker was not just a craftsman of the highest order, ... morehe was an artist as well. The side panels are 5/8 inch thick, cut as one plank of solid walnut.The top is solid walnut with a beautiful shaped edge. The drawer bottoms. Sides and backs are all made from solid chestnut(possibly oak)Old growth chestnut is highly sought after by wood lovers, it is virtually extinct, now being reclaimed at very high prices,these chestnut drawers that I hand rubbed a finish on, they are gorgeous. Fine C19th Antique French Walnut Marble Pedestal Chest Of Drawers Pot Cupboard
For auction here we have a fine antique French walnut marble topped pedestal chest of drawers or pot cupboard dating to the late 19th century. This pretty chest has a rouge marble top over a a bank of drawers flanked by canted corners raised on a plinth base with castors. Each of the drawers are oak lined and come with original handles. The second and third drawer faces actually fall down to reveal a marble lined cupboard. The chest is in good order with the only worthy note being some small damage to the marble inside you can see in the photos but this is not loose or does it affect how it can be used. Offered for auction is this nice large walnut mirror frame that attaches to the top of a chest of drawers. Two walnut supports with brass turn screw attachments support the mirror frame(no mirror) The supports have screw holes in the bases of them to be screwed down to the top of the chest. Mirror can be angled up or down with the brass adjustment handles. Frame has nice parallel carved reeded lines all around and the dimensions are outside. 35 1/4" x 29 1/8" Inside, 30" x 24 1/2" Weight is about 10 lbs.

Pennsylvania c. 1805-20 Four graduated drawers flanked by chamfered columns over splayed French feet Item# 1301PYP21PZ While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through ... morethe top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. These with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. Made during the third quarter of the 18th Century 1770-80. This chest built from beautiful quality crotch walnut is a fine display of the craftsmanship of its time. Each of the drawers has solid walnut faces. The sides and bottom are crafted of poplar. These drawers are hand dovetailed and their bottoms are deeply chamfered and slid into rabbets in the sides. All original hardware. The blocking of the feet is intricate and likely the reason the feet have survived in such good condition; large triangular blocks support the thick corner block. This beautiful example in traditional style has a moulded cornice over two short drawers and a further three long graduating drawers raised on a stand with smaller drawer layout and raised on elegant shell carved cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet. The company was known for its"royalty designs" and finest craftsmanship using fancy woods and unique veneers to showcase stunning designs. This piece is part of a whole bedroom set but being offered also as an individual piece. Made of walnut burl wood which was the most decorative veneer used in the period and much sought after and considered a"prized possession" It also features a masterful intricate marquetry design. Additionally it shows carved details. Overall largest measurements are approximately 56" ... morewide by 22" deep by 37" high The style is French Rococo in the fashion of the 18th century French royal court and Louis XV and its manufacturing dates around 1915 or so.
