You are looking at a very& rare beautiful Used Antique wooden trunk. With a metal bottom. The handles are not there. The hard ware that held them on is. I guess you came say this trunk was carried around a lot. The lock is marked Eagle lock co. Terryville, Conn. It's in nice shape for it's age. I do not know the age. The fabric is rough, inside and out. It seen better days. There is where all over. There is also a small burnt spot. I am guessing it's lucky to still be where. I am sorry to say. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK XCLNT COND:TRAY, WORKING LOCK & KEY
This 1800's clean steamer trunk is in(my assessment) is in Excellent Original Condition. INTERIOR: The trunk is made of solid wood. The interior is fully lined with a paper liner. The paper is a striped pattern. I have included a close up photograph of the lined paper. I consider the quality to be excellent. I can provide additional close up photographs as requested. EXTERIOR: Dimensions: 39" L x 24.25" W X 22.24" H The sides are a brown metal with wooden slats and really nice brass with the brass round accents. The leather handles on each end are in excellent condition. There are two latches also in excellent condition in addition to the central lock with key. The leather straps around the trunk could be refurbished. RIght now the are excellent on the top. But note they are torn and not able to fasten. I can provide close-up ... morephotographs as needed, just ask me. I was only able to load 12 pictures here. LOCK& KEY: I have the key which works to unlock the lock. I have included a photograph of the key.There is slight bend in the metal on the lock so you do need to jiggle it to open. The bottom line though is. The trunk locks and unlocks with the key. I like the key because of the heart shape. TRAY: It has the original tray and the tray has the original top. Both tray and top are lined with the same paper as the trunk. The removable tray sits in the top portion of the trunk. In the photographs below I have included a photograph with the tray outside of the box on the carpet with the top on. I have also included photographs of the tray inside to box. One of the photographs is of the tray inside the box with the top folded over so that you can see half of the tray's contents. The other photograph is of the tray inside the box with the top removed. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT: With my own research(I am NOT an expert) I estimate this trunk to be approximately made circa 1872 based on these three facts: 1. The lock is stamped and made by Eagle Lock Co. of Terryville, Conn. and we believe the trunk to be circa 1900 give or take. It is in good antique condition with normal surface wear commensurate with age and use- plenty of dings, scratches, etc. The leather handles on each side have been lost, and one rolling wheel/castor is missing on the bottom(please see photos) The trunk retains the tray insert on the inside and there is some wear and tear to the paper lining on the inside. Two of the keys have a square shape in the opening, I think these are clock keys. One of them has some numbers, 5-350. One of the flat keys has a heart shaped cutout. Vintage steamer Wardrobe National Trunk Corp - Yale lock - labeled Brooklyn , NY
Very old green Wardrobe Trunk made by National Trunk Corporation- Racine.Wisconsin. This item was obtained from the estate of a 101 year old man in Brooklyn. NY in 1971. It's time to find a new home for it with someone who can appreciate it and possibly restore it. The trunk is made of" Genuine Hard Vulcanized Trunk Fibre" per the label on it. It measures approximately 21" X 21" x 40. It has the initials" T.A.S. and Brooklyn. NY" painted on one end. The brass lock is labeled" 438 The Yale& Towne Mfg Co. There is no key. There is damage near the lock from being pried open. There is some white paint splatter on the outside of the trunk. The inside of the trunk is in surprisingly good shape. The bottom of one side is missing some fabric. The top on one side pops up. And there are two pull-out rails ... morefor hanging clothes.
