There are 4 drawers that lift out. It looks like the blue was painted on but not sure. The straps look like they are leather. Im not for sure what this trunk is made of. It looks a little ruff around the edges. There is some rust on the bottom and on the hinges. It has some writing on the lock. The bottom part says louisville, ky. It looks like there was some water damage. The leather handle may be broke. It has#867. It measures 28" long, 27 1/2" tall and 20 1/2" wide. The drawers are 6 1/4" deep, 26" long, and 18" wide. This very old piece is intricately painted on all but the back side of the chest with elegant, stylized birds, raised florals and deer and village/sun scene. The sides have another village scene with raised butterflies(mariposas) The separate wood base is hand-painted also. Deep, rich colors and aged lacquer on this piece. The person I obtained it from estimated it to be from the 1940's. A fabulous piece for your Mexican folk art collection or any Museum collection. It is in very good condition. It has no chips or cracks or dings and only minor ware to the painted artwork. The inside is very clean. It is large at 17" long by 12" tall and 10" deep overall. The chest part when removed from its base measures 16" x 9" x 8" Lacquerware folk art comes from the states of Michoacan. Guerrero and Chiapas. In Guerrero, two towns have preserved their lacquerware traditions- Olinala and Temalacatzingo. Olinala is famous for its production of fine chests(bauls) gourds and furniture, which are delicately and intricately painted. The bauls were often made of linaloe wood, grown in tropical Guerrero. Coffers and chests(bauls) were often intended as dowry chests used to store linens and valuables. They are richly painted and colored brightly. With intricate decoration of idealized city scenes combining cathedrals and colonial buildings against a backdrop of mountains. Which reflected nearby cities such as Puebla, Taxco and Cholula with their magnificent central squares, imposing buildings and impressive basilicas. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as demand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. Ed Lane later recalled he was"one jump ahead of the sheriff most of the time. When a banker told him the company was insolvent, Lane asked him what that meant. The elder John Lane never ceased to be amazed that the factory actually could sell all its production-which at the time of his death in 1930 came to between 250 and 300 chests a day. Antique Victorian icebox lock catch hinges vintage cast brass ice chest hardware
I have a nice set of ornate Victorian Eastlake cast brass icebox hardware for your consideration. Includes three nice hinges that open and close smoothly. Measure 4 1/8 x 2 inches. A nice large surface rim lock with ornate Eastlake patterning. Hinged handle, and latch. measures 4 5/8 x 2 3/8 inches. It works nicely as well although there is no key for locking mechanism. As well, there was a repair on the right hinge pin. Looks like it was replaced with a brass pin. As the original would have been iron. There was a small amount of grinding marks where the repair was. Not very noticable but I wanted to make you aware. See last two pics closely. And a nice hard to find matching catch for latch. All are cast brass with no cracks or breaks. The back service panel on lock is iron and has a date June 28th 1887. Hard to read date. 5 pieces in this ... moreset. Nice set for renovated furniture, cabinet, or cupboard as well. I did not attempt to clean the exterior.some scuffs and such may come off. The PEPSI COLA text in the logo is upraised.and the same printing on front and back. It is in good solid condition. The hinges are sturdy and not corroded, handles on each side are intact, and the tray is in nice shape. Possibly could use new seal, or just remove old. Up for bid is a vintage Green Coleman Heavy Duty Metal Cooler. It has the old metal diamond logo on the front. It is in good vintage condition with no cracks or major dents. There are a few scuffs. Scratches and signs of normal use. The top right corner of the lid has some rust forming and there are a few other small rust spots around the cooler too. There are also a few white paint drops on the lid. The inside of the cooler is in good condition with no cracks. There are some scuffs and small stains from normal use. The inside and bottom are slightly discolored due to age. It has nice and sturdy metal handles on each side. Both handles have a built in bottle opener as well. The lid closes nice and tight and the metal latch works and closes tight too. The metal hinges that hold the lid are also nice and sturdy. The box needs to be refinished, there are lots of fine scratches on the top and on the front edge of the box, also there is wear the the brass plates wear the key goes in there is also a triangle brass corner plate missing from the top left back corner. This auction is for a very unique. Round, heavy aluminum Pearl Beer Cooler or Ice Chest. I think it's from the late 50s or early 60s. It was made by Poloron Products, Inc. New Rochelle, N,Y. The inside of the top cover shows instructions for best results. It has an aluminum tray that can be removed. It is approx. 12 1/2 inches outside diameter and 13 1/2 inches tall. It has a nice, strudy handle for carrying. Condition: There are no major dents or repaired areas. It does have some spots of missing paint around the cooler and the top has some rust spots and missing paint(see photos) The tray and inside of the cooler is very clean with the exception of some surface rust on the bottom but it does not have any leaks. Once contained confections from Murray Allen and the tin was made in West Germany. It looks to date to the 1960s. The tin has some vintage wear and patina. There are some small areas of wear. Some scratches, handling marks, light soiling, some small dents/dings, etc. Some noticeable denting on lid and it dips at the center on one side. Some wear around bottom rim and the feet. Vintage Early 1900's Childs Doll Chest Rare Find In Dark Walnut Dark Oak
Up for bid is a lovely rare in this size childs baby chest used to store their dolls and clothing etc. This is hand made just like the large style used by adults. It is in its original condition including a victorian postcard decoration in the cover portion of the trunk. The leather straps are present and in tact-the only think I can see is that the top half of the right hand closure is missing. Please see the pictures. The wood on the cover is lighter than the rest of the chest-I am guessing that 2 types of wood both dark. The measurements of the chest are 12 inches high. 18 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches deep. The actual frame of the chest seems to be in good condition, although the interior has been painted at some point and is flaking badly. The outside, dark green paint is patchy in the best sort of way, but could also be refinished. The mirror has some patina to it but is still clear enough to be useful. The inside has nice shelf supports, although the glass shelves would need replaced as none have survived. The overall measurements are 21 1/4 inches wide x 25 inches tall x 6 inches deep. Vintage 1936 Grenadier Guards Tunic. Chest 38"/ 97 cms
This is the tunic of a Grenadiers Guard which dates from 1936. As shown in the label(pic#9) this is in absolutely perfect condition as it has been shut in a trunk for many years and has never been exposed to the dangers of moth or sun-fade etc. I am not able to show it fastened correctly as I do not have a mannequin small enough to accomadate this. The gentleman that this belonged to was a Sergeant; I have included two Grenadier Guards badges(pic#8) which are not attached to the uniform but which have been used and may have been a part of another uniform. Everything about this rare garment is in perfect condition. You may collect this item from Hastings. East Sussex or Dartford, Kent if you wish to avoid postage.
