The lock incomplete and it has obviously been well used which is understandable if it was a child's toy. There is a hinge in the bottom that looks like it should be attached to the top. I may have mixed the doll clothes and the baby clothes as it is hard to tell with some of them. I think this must be two different lots of clothes as some look considerable older than others. Some are stained, none have been cleaned as I don't dare try. There is quite a variety of dresses, pantaloons, bibs,bonnets etc. some quite lovely and in good condition, some quite worn. Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Antique Vintage 1800's J. L. George Wood Hand Carved Chinese Trunk/Chest
This is a hand carved J.L George wood trunk. The inner inscription reads J.L. George 895 Avenue Rd. Tel 34732 Chinese beaux arts carving furniture in wood. Carving furniture in jade stone. Carving furniture in brass. Carving chest. Made in China. I believe it is from the late 1800's or early 1900's. A friend of my father's brought this back from a trip he took to Shanghai in 1929. The exterior has some exquisite hand carving as shown in the photos. It is in great condition. The top does have some fading. As if it sat in the sunlight for a period of time, and some minor scratches. Please see photos. It measures 20 inches wide, 21 inches tall, and 40 inches in length. The brass hardware is all in excellent condition. The interior seems to be in exceptional shape, with the only blemish being some mild buckling up of the wood on the ... morebottom, in one area. Vintage Steamer Trunk - estimated 1900 To 1950 - unrestored antique
You will find this to be a beautiful piece. The condition is a bit rough but as expected for an item that has been used extensively. Imagine this being loaded onto a train car in the early 1900's or a Cruise Ship in the 1950s. I consider it to be in working condition though since the hinges and latches still work. However the key is missing. Some of the leather straps are missing as well but can be replaced for a reasonable price. This would be perfect for use in your entryway. This is probably one of the most unusual clocks I have seen. It was advertising of some kind. I think insurance maybe. I can't make out the first work or two. Of Valued Business Favors" is on top line with a word or 2 preceding it. Under that is"Prompt Settlements" The 2" brass clock was set in the middle of a 6" slab o tree trunk. Then there is a 1 3/4" round peg that must have fit in another piece to make it stand. There is no maker name. This is really unusual and I'd like to know more about it. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Antique Shwayder Bros. Samson Steamer Trunk with it's original inside tray. This trunk is estimated to be from the 1930's and is in very. Very good condition. Shwayder Trunk Co. originated in 1910 and the name was changed to Shwayder Bros. Inc. Samson in 1939. In 1965 the named changed to Samsonite. The trunk has it's original tray and they are both lined in it's original patterned paper. These trunks are hard to find with their original trays and also it has old newspaper from 1957 laying flat inside both the tray and the trunk; the paper all completely in tact with no tears and really neat old adds with the current news. A little extra for the trunks history. The tray does need a small repair on the front bottom where it has become separated in the center. The handles on each side are leather and in extreme good condition. They have'SHWAYDER BROS. DENVER- DETROIT' imprinted on both and the handles are both very taut; not at all loose or streatched. It's like it was hardle ever picked up much with them and they are indeed original. The front handle is a heavy type of metal I think and is all in tact. The handle also has a definate'1930's style ornate-ness' to it. Very unique! The trunk It measures 30" in length, 16" width and 12" tall. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. My family came from England in the late 1800's but the history of US Trunk Co.I believe dates this to be the early 1900's. It's green wood with metal corners and does need some work but appears to be all original as is. There is no key. The dimensions are 30"L x 17"W x 13"D. It is lovely as is but if you want to restore it would be good to do that with. It thas the original interior tag w/ s/n. I believe it was made between 1893 and 1898. It is missing two original hardware pieces. The center lock and latch. One of the carrying handles was replaced All other hardware is original.It has all four rollers on bottom. You can see the condition in pictures. All the hardware pieces can be found to purchase online if you desire. The inside has a musty odor but there are ways to rid the trunk of this problem. This is a wooden and copper or tin trunk with small casters(wheels) on the bottom. The original leather handles are still intact and work. The trunk measures 30" wide by 16" deep and 17" tall. There is a picture of a Victorian ... morewoman on the inside of the lid. One of the handles has a"Railway Express" tag from Brighton, and a faded"Railway Express Agency" sticker is on the bottom. The two side latches work properly and the center lock is a bit stiff and may not work. There is some writing undermeath the center lock that is hard to read but it looks like it says"Patented 1867, reissued Aug. and we cant't seem to make out the rest. We believe this is from the late 1800's to early 1900's but are unsure of the actual age. There is some very nice ornate designs on the riveted corners and the black metal on the tops and sides. There is some damaged wood and some damage to the metal on one corner, also some rust on the back hinges. The inside has some cracking in the wood but is still in good shape.
