Condition: Used Location: Edmond, United States Beautifully shaped camel back antique trunk. As far as I can tell this trunk appears to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's. The hardware ... moreis gorgeous! The shape of the trunk is great! At first glance. It looks like a gold painted textured tin exterior with black hardware. Upon closer examination, it looks like the trunk is wood covered with textured tin. A magnet will attach to all the tin and all the hardware. The arch accents and straight accents on the sides appear to be wood(the magnet does not stick but slides to the metal areas) The bottom has seen better days. The tin shows wear at the corner and at the bottom edges of the sides. I tried to show this in the pictures. The bottom has been covered with felt. There is no tin used on the bottom-it appears to be antique wood covered by felt. The interior has been lined with a cream colored polyester lining fabric. The lining was applied with upholstery tacks and a glue gun. Along the two short side there is a ridge of wood inside the trunk which probably held a tray at one time. In one corner. I was able to pull back the fabric and take a photograph of what looks like the original lining paper. All the nails in the top and sides look like they are original except 3 philips head screws that are used in one of the back hinges. I was trying to figure out why there were air holes on the sides when I realized that the handles are missing. The beauty of the shape is the main attraction. Measures 28" wide x 17" deep x 18" tall that peaks to 20" Very pretty piece. Looks like with a little work the original splendor of this piece would be a delight to own. These trunks are also described as Dome Topped or Hump Back trunks. No returns on this item. Local Pick up is prefered in Raleigh. NC. Shipping will be calculated by actual weight. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Picture,Lock & Key
With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with an antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Tray, original picture and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then took off the canvas to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, ... morewe sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has the original lid stay to help keep it open. You will also see that we were able to apply an original picture on the inside of the lid that came from another trunk that we have used for parts. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. As in trunks of this style and age.We have applied two straps on the front. Steamer trunks in that era used the straps to help keep the lid securely sealed if needed, especially when traveling. Excelsior Oak Slat Trunk, Rare size, 1880s, Tray, Key! Steamer, Chest
Beautiful. Professionally restored, 1880's Excelsior oak slat trunk in a size rarely found. Measures: 30" x 23" tall. 18" deep In 40 years of trunk collecting and restoration. I have never had another one of these Excelsior trunks in the smaller 30" size(most are 34 to 36" wide) A great size which can be used in many places, with super storage, and it's a true collector's piece. The wood is stamped twice with the"Excelsior Patented Jan. 7, 1868" mark right under the lock(see detailed pictures) It has custom made thick leather handles, solid brass Eagle lock with original barrel key, a wooden lift out tray, and the original lid compartment. There are four original heavy rollers on the bottom. All of the hardware is original and in great condition. The wood was carefully hand cleaned and finished ... morewith satin tung oil finish. Beautiful wood grain and only minor signs of age and use. The interior was cleaned out and refinished since the wood looks so nice. There is an original pocket envelope in the lid for cards and papers. There is a nice old chromolithograph and fancy Victorian trim in the lid also. These trunks were very limited in production and are much harder to find than other trunks! Very strong, well made and heavy for their size. These trunks were made to be the strongest trunks available and also to be attractive enough to use as furniture in a home between trips. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Arch/Curve Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key
Nice Refinished Antique Curve Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a beautiful refinished embossed metal trunk that has a slight arched top to it. There are ten pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 inches. The embossed metal has a woven wicker pattern to it. The outer slat boards look to be ash or oak. We have finished the outer slat boards with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect the wood and give it a nice appearance. The metal parts that make up this trunk have been painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This one comes with the original working lock. The lock does have a brass key hole cover which we have semi polished. There are not any ... moreother brass metal parts on this trunk except for the key hole cover. We matched up an older key that does work with this lock. This trunk should date back to the late 1800's. The front latches were missing when we received this trunk. We have run buckles with straps in place of the latches which are functional. When buckled, in addition to the front lock, they do help hold the trunk's lid to it's base securely. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. This trunk could make a nice gift for a loved one or family member who enjoys collecting refinished antique furniture pieces. They could store any collectibles within it. If they collect dolls or teddy bears, they can be displayed in and within the trunk with the lid in the open position. Going to the interior, we have removed the worn out looking paper lining and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. The interior is in pretty clean condition considering how old this trunk actually is. A nice trunk maker's style picture has been added to the underside of the arched top. Nice Freshened Up Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a cute metal dome top that we picked up and freshened it up. There are nine pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. The embossed metal on the top and front has flowers and leaves patterned onto it. This is the original metal and paint from the factory. The rest of the metal has been freshened up and hand painted in black and gold leaf. The outer slat boards appear to be ash or oak and they have been given two coats of polyurethane. This pretty dome top comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. The front two latches are also original ... moreand work well since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining from the wood since it was worn out looking. The interior wood has been given two coats of polyurethane. A picture of a young person posing has been added to the underside of the dome. A wooden piece has been put from the front on the inside to the back. It has been done so so the trunk lid will line up with the lock and lower latches. Going to the bottom underneath this cute trunk, it has normal wear and it also has the four factory original metal casters on the bottom that still do spin. This one has been pretty much freshened up instead of totally refinished. It did turn out to be nice looking. Especially with the flowered metal. This rosemalled miniature trunk has all of it's paint and is in great condition. These were American made in the manner of the old immigrant trunks from the early to mid 1800's from Norway and Sweden. The colors are primarily red and black with green. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Original Tray With Lids and Pictures Here is an absolutely beautiful dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the late 1800's. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware

This is a rare wheeled studded Jenny Lind Stagecoach or Steamer Trunk including its key. I think it dates from the 1800's. It is made of iron and wood and has its original fittings and inside compartments and label. There is a compartment in the lid. A tray compartment and a bottom compartment. It has a metal bottom. The label reads Edgar Parmer and company- Trunk Manufacturing and the lock is marked J. Terry& Co. Terryville CT. It is approximately 27 1/2" wide, 17" deep at the deepest point and 16 1/2" tall to the crest. The inserts are in tact and in good used condition, but the leather straps are broken and a brass stud in the lower front side is missing. It has some stains that I haven't tried to clean. Thank you for taking the time to look at the details of this beautiful antique trunk. This Particular Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk comes with Lock. Keys, tray. And original picture. We at Trunks-n-treasures take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very beautiful. Highly decorated, nice, clean refinished dome top Victorian steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside and out to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, we sanded all the wood and then ... moreapplied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has a lid stay to help keep it open. You will also find the original picture on the lid. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk also comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. Please take the time to notice all of the fancy metalwork on this trunk showing off its beauty. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. For this trunk we also made a replica tray just like the original. The tray is divided into deep compartments to store small items in. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look.
