The hardware ... moreis gorgeous! The shape of the trunk is great! At first glance. It looks like a gold painted textured tin exterior with black hardware. Upon closer examination, it looks like the trunk is wood covered with textured tin. A magnet will attach to all the tin and all the hardware. The arch accents and straight accents on the sides appear to be wood(the magnet does not stick but slides to the metal areas) The bottom has seen better days. The tin shows wear at the corner and at the bottom edges of the sides. I tried to show this in the pictures. The bottom has been covered with felt. There is no tin used on the bottom-it appears to be antique wood covered by felt. The interior has been lined with a cream colored polyester lining fabric. The lining was applied with upholstery tacks and a glue gun. Along the two short side there is a ridge of wood inside the trunk which probably held a tray at one time. In one corner. I was able to pull back the fabric and take a photograph of what looks like the original lining paper. All the nails in the top and sides look like they are original except 3 philips head screws that are used in one of the back hinges. I was trying to figure out why there were air holes on the sides when I realized that the handles are missing. The beauty of the shape is the main attraction. Measures 28" wide x 17" deep x 18" tall that peaks to 20" Very pretty piece. Looks like with a little work the original splendor of this piece would be a delight to own. These trunks are also described as Dome Topped or Hump Back trunks. No returns on this item. Local Pick up is prefered in Raleigh. NC. Shipping will be calculated by actual weight. But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. It must be a doll trunk. Either way, it has served many years as a case to hold my son’s Hot Wheels cars! The paper lined interior is mostly intact with some fading. Soil and stains. The pattern looks to be very pale olive green tree branches or pine needles. There is one section where the outer case has slightly indented and you can see it on the inside. Other than that the paper really isn’t ripped. The trunk has a square hook that looks made for a hangar. I didn’t ... moreeven try to clean the soil around the trims as I have allergies to most cleaners and I think it may need something like fantastic. The metal corners are all intact although there are some with less rust than the others. The handle is a soft plastic that had been in the closed position so long that it made indentations on the red vinyl. When it stands. It still has a curve to it. Add another 2.25” for the handle. The red vinyl is surprisingly intact with minor wear. It’s not coming apart. Not split or ripped! It’s a very dark red depending on the lighting. Gold lines swirl around with tiny specks of gold to give it that 1950’s look. Whether that is the date or not remains a mystery. I’m old enough to remember the 50’s and this reminds me of that time. I have been airing it out for over a year. Before that. It was in my son’s basement. Before that, he found it in the garbage when he was in sanitation. It has a very faint odor only. Antique Flat Top BAUER TRUNKS & BAGS Steamer Trunk Complete with Tray & Key
An antique steamer trunk with a brass tag that reads' BAUER TRUNK& BAG CO. OSHKOSH. WIS' The trunk is covered with dark canvas which is held in place with the wood slats and bands of black metal. It has 4 sturdy hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there's a working Corbin lock marked 6 STwith a matching Corbin key. The trunk is complete with its original two compartment covered tray and the lids each have small leather tabs on them that snap closed. One of the lids is cracked toward the back as seen in the photo. The initials D.M.P. have been stamped in black on each side of the trunk. The trunk measures approximately 33" long X 21" wide X 23" high and the size is nearly perfect for use as a coffee table. On the bottom of the trunk are 4 small wheels that make the trunk easy to move ... morearound on any hard flat surface. Usually the black metal on the underside of these old trunks is scratched and dented but the one on this trunk looks great! There are leather handles on the sides and they seem to be in very good condition which is also unusual, generally at least one, if not both, handles are missing. The inside of the trunk is paper lined and most folks like to remove the paper, sand down the interior and then seal the wood or line them with cedar. Both methods are very effective at removing any lingering musty old trunk odors. This trunk is fine enough to use'as is' but could just as easily be a worthy restoration project. No matter how you look at it you'll have lots of additional storage space and a piece of antique furniture that will soon become your very own family heirloom. This trunk weighs 56 lbs. unpacked and is considered oversized so it will more costly to ship. Shipping will be $60.00 via FEDEX GROUND HOME DELIVERY with tracking and insurance. Fanciest, monitor tops that we have done up ever. This refinished monitor top should date back to around 1900 or so. We have twelve pictures of this one for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/4 inches. From floor to top is 26 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/4 inches. This beautiful trunk is called a monitor top trunk because it is styled after the 1800's USS Monitor war frigot or ship. This ship was a big, massive battleship. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat ... moreboards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. There are some typical older distress marks or beauty on this trunk that have accumulated over the trunk's long existence. These include nicks and dings in various places and some typical stress cracks. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have similar markings due to age which gives the trunk it's antique appearance. The top front and rear edge is rounded like a waterfall deco style and it is pretty incredible how the trunk maker was able to bend the outer slat boards around this curve without snapping the boards. This beautiful trunk has the very ornate original working lock. It has embossed patterns all over it as you can see in the picture. We did match up a key that works properly in this lock. The cast iron cap metal going across the center of the top has an"S" engraved into it. This trunk has a lot of fancy hardware all over it, none of which is brass, so it has been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The front latches are also original cast iron ones. The bottom of this truck is marked"Made in Italy" but I didn't find a maker's name on it. It's a 16.5" cube made of solid wood. The inside is nicely finished. Clean, and free of musty odors. The outside is covered with black leather, which is secured with brass studs. As shown in the pictures, the leather has several large tears. The edges are framed in brass. It is heavy, weighing approximately 30 pounds.

Antique German Iron Trunk Lock &Key & Neo-classical Brass Escutcheon c. 1790
This antique 18th c. German lock is entirely blacksmith made with hand filed and riveted elements. It works off double springs that scissor around the original hand wrought tang. The original key is a large beautifully patinated key with turned shaft and a bow handle. The brass escutcheon(which show signs of fire gilding on its reverse side-see photo) is neoclassical in character with central oval section surmounted by an urn above fretwork flutes and with the base decorated with drapery pendants. The design of the escutcheon suggests a German origin for this lock set. The lock case is 4.75" long and has a tapering body that is 4.25" wide at the base and 3.75" wide at the top. Its overall; thickness is about 5/8" The escutcheon is 5.75" long and 2.5" wide. The key has an overall length of 4 1/8" The lock ... moreis in great working order(I have shown a picture with the lock disengaged and engaged) The key stays in place when the lock is unlocked. There is a little distortion in the lock face(easily flattened) and one screw hole is torn but another hole could be placed near it. I date this lock to about 1790. Vintage 1920's Hartmann Wardrobe Travel Trunk with Yale Key- Beautiful Condition
It's rare to find a vintage 1920's Hartmann wardrobe travel steamer trunk with its Yale key in this condition. All of the buckles and hardware on this piece are in working order. It comes with 2 straight bar hangers; 2 specialty hangers; and 5 coat/shirt/dress hangers. It has the original wood and metal bars that would have kept clothes tight and flat. The clothes bar extends 18" to pull clothes out for easy access. The trunk has three small drawers with cloth tie-downs and one large drawer with the original hanging hat keeper. There is some slight fraying of the cloth on the drawers from use but no large tears. The interior lid still retains its original blue velvet liner- still in beautiful condition with no tears or frays. The leather handle is stamped: 360 3" and the leather is in great condition.
