It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. Nice and roomy for storage and would make an awesome coffee table too! We have a vintage steamer trunk chest that is covered in green duck cloth. Nice wood bracings and metal hardware latches. Trim and wheels. Both side latches work. The trunk was loved and used! The cloth lining has a rip on the bottom, front right and is worn in spots. The rear center brace is split at center. The hardware is worn and has nice, rusty patina. The hinges on the back are black strap-type hinges. The inside of the trunk is covered in a light paper that has browned over years and is clean. Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks& a Key and Interior Tray This one has surely come a very long way from when we purchased it. This one was completely painted pastel green on the exterior like they used to do in the 1970's with a lot of furniture items. We spent a heck of a lot of time stripping over 99% of the ugly paint off of the exterior. The trunk should date back to around 1900 or so. It is quite unusual in which it has the double locks. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has turned out to be a nice tannish brown color on the base wood and a tannish color to the slat boards. The wood is in pretty good condition although there are some scrapes and nicks ... moreon the wood in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. All of these markings are very common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. When we received this trunk. The lower locks were cut off. So we have installed two vintage Eagle Lock Company locks, both of which will work with the one key provided. The upper receiving part for the locks on this trunk are original indicating that we have replaced the locks with similar ones. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/4 inches. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of our leather for these trunks is obtained from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. This beautiful flat top trunk which is a true flat top with no factory arch, did have a leather strap that ran up the front and across the top. Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. Antique Cast Iron Trunk Hardware Set of 2 ~ Steamer or storage trunk bail handles removed from an old steamer chest that was uncovered in an old barn's rafters! Each measures approx. 3-3/4" x 1-3/4" not including drop handles) and each has 5 holes for mounting hardware placement. The lower middle hole is smaller than the other 4. Sorry. The hardware is NOT included. The handles are very sturdy and the pull motion is smooth and free. Each antique plate mounted carrying handle has it's own unique character textured rust. Neither has any weak spots. However, some of the rust encrustation was lost and there are scratches in the lower corner.The back of both have what may be a paint or adhesive. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for you or someone that you cherish. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. A Ladycomet Nice Refinished Victorian Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key
Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a nice refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one has a very fancy working lock. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/4 inches. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and make it look nice. The wood is in pretty good condition considering the age of this trunk and there are some typical stress cracks in the base wood. We have shown a close up picture of some of these stress cracks on the top. The majority of the trunks have similar stress cracks. This trunk maker did a nice job of running metal banding ... moreon this trunk. By doing so, it gives the trunk a nice wooden sectioned appearance. Some of the metal banding was missing, so we have filled these areas with glue to make up for the missing banding. The front latches are original cast iron ones and do work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Someone has added a lock hasp on the front of the trunk next to the fancy lock. We decided to leave it there since it appears to be fairly old and you could use a padlock with this hasp to secure the lid of the trunk to the base in addition to the fancy working lock. The lock is fancy in which it has embossed and carved patterns on it. There is a close up picture showing this unique lock. We did match up a key that does work with this lock. We are calling this trunk a flat top, although this trunk has a very slight factory arch to the top which is noticeable in ths close up side view picture. Refinished antique steamer trunk circa late 1890’s. Early 1900’s with original hardware. This has a wonderful flat top surface, perfect use for a table or at the bottom of a bed. Plus it is nice and roomy, excellent for extra storage. The inside has been stripped of the original paper. Brass colored hardware and front lock, no key. The wood has been finished in a nice warm medium pine color with a not to shiny, not to dull, just right finish. The metal hardware has not been repainted, only cleaned. I like to leave the hardware in its found state. Rear hinges are in working order and original inside hardware holds lid up perfectly. There is a wood split on the top side, normal for antiques trunks as they werew packed and then stacked for traveling. The bottom shows some wear. Fabulous Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray This beautiful trunk sure has taken on quite a transformation from the time that we have purchased it. It was very rustic and in dire need of help. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely dome top top should date back to the mid to late 1800's and it appears to be made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has a nice reddish brown color to it. There are some typical older distress marks on the wooden surfaces. These markings include older nicks and dings along with some slight ... moreareas of discoloration. The majority of the trunks that we refinish have similar distress marks. This one comes with the original working lock. We have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this nice trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. This one was missing the front latches, so we have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. Instead of having the metal latches, you can use the straps to secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled in addition to the working lock. As far as repairs go, there were two pieces of hardware missing where the outer slat boards meet. So we have replaced these with some home made pieces that look somewhat similar. There was also a section of an outer slat board missing, and we replaced it with a piece of slat board from a parts trunk. Refinished antique wooden steamer trunk circa late 1890’s. Early 1900’s with original hardware. This has a wonderful flat top surface, perfect use for a table or at the bottom of a bed. Plus it is nice and roomy, excellent for extra storage. The inside has been stripped of the original paper. Brass colored hardware and front lock, no key. Original handles in tact, which is rare as most broke off over time. The wood has been finished in a nice warm medium pine color with a not to shiny, not to dull, just right finish. The metal hardware has not been repainted, only cleaned. I like to leave the hardware in its found state. Rear hinges are in working order and original inside hardware holds lid up perfectly. There is a stress crack on the top, normal for antiques trunks as they were packed and then stacked for traveling. The bottom shows some ... morewear. Refinished Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest Very Nice
I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. Going to the interior, I have finished the interior wood with two coats of clear lacquer. The interior is in pretty good condition considering how old this trunk is. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk has normal wear. It also has the four factory original rollers and slats. It is a traditionally constructed'sailor's' chest with a pine body, having part iron banding and corner protectors with brass studded wooden batons. There is an old iron handle at both ends and a central clasp and lock. Internally it is still lined with the original paper lining and has a removable half height divider in the middle. This chap has been around since before the Boer War and! Originally it was canvas covered. This has now been removed and the underlying pine has been prepared and waxed, as have the batons and brass studs. There ... moreare.Of course, a myriad of very characteful nicks, dinks and scars. Dents, scratches and so on over most of the piece and some of the metal work is missing and/or battered with remanants of paintwork on it, but its all characterful! There is a repaired.And now solid, small hole at the back by the right hand side hinge, the screws in the hinges are replacement ones, there are one or two woodworm holes from some long since deceased worms and there is no key for the lock. Also the internal paper is tatty, scuffed and torn and badly stained, but still dry and perfectly usable. For as accurate a representation/description as possible.
