It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. 1800's Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk Chest with Casters Nicely refinished primitive dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the mid to late 1800's Exterior dimensions: 28" W x 18" H x 15-3/4" D Constructed of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards and side handles Wood finish has a reddish brown color There are older scrapes and dings in various places which are quite common markings considering the trunk's age Inscription on the lock reads"PAT'D March'69& Apr. 77" with a star shape on both ends of the inscription The lock does appear to be all there and intact. It is called a Saratoga trunk which became popular with the wealthier class for those traveling to spas and to the Saratoga Springs in New York during the Victorian Era. It was a large domed top s tylewith fancy trim. Covered in either leather or metal. Early trunk ads and catalogs describe the Saratoga as"large round trunk of the highest class. It is believed that dome tops where made for those who wanted to have their trunks packed on the top of the baggage so as to avoid damage at the bottom of the heap. The chest is covered with embossed metal which has an ornate scrolling design. Solid wood slats reinforce the wood structure and add a beautiful design. ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for a really very nice antique lidded pine storage box or small chest. Dating to the second half of the 19thC. Marked to the front'Girls 3rd Class' I am hoping I have go this right and that it is a girls playroom box from the 3rd Class area of a paddle steamer or ocean liner. I can't think what else would have a'3rd Class' if it were say from a school I think it would of said'Class 3' and also I don't think class numbers were being used in the 19thC. I am of course open to other suggestions. It measures 18.5 inches/47cm wide at the lid and 17 inches/43cm tall. You don't get an impression of it from the pics but its made from beautifully shiny and patinated solid pine that just glows with age and character. There is a sliding brass escutcheon cover but I believe it to be ... morea later addition. The original lock is absent(see interior pic) Its been well used and that shows with many marks and features in the timber. Some old scattered worm holes to the underside and here and there to the top, looks like there is some very old glue to a split to the top of one of the legs but it doesn't negatively impact it in anyway or stand out etc. Such an interesting and characterful object. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. This is attractive distressed leather trunk from the first quarter of the 20th Century is a truly charming decorative piece. These are quite versatile pieces, originally designed to carry luggage, but today used flexibly in the home as a decorative piece in the living room as an incredible strike point coffee table in front of a large leather couch. As the side table between the sofa and another chair, as an end table behind a low sofa- possibly with a setup similar to the image above. The present example is a fine work that would originally have been prohibitively expensive, crafted of thick ... morecowhide leather covering the entire surface of the exterior and interior of the trunk, the exterior surfaces still fully original with a fine worn and distressed appeal. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. The fitted interior is a complex formation of interlocking boxes and compartments, still retained though overall in rough visual condition. The opened lid has it's own compartment, held in with two brass slides that lock in on the right and left- this flips down for a large storage box. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Working Lock& Key Here we are offering a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 20 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. This lovely trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are plenty of older distress marks on this trunk. This includes some older nicks and dings on the wood in various places along with a couple of small holes in the metal in a few spots. These markings have accumulated over time and are what gives the trunk some of it's antique appearance. We ... morehave the original signed working lock in place on this trunk. It is signed. Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain" We did match up a key that does work with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles that had eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles in the same location where the original ones once were. The front latches are also original and work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the inside of this lovely trunk, we have finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. We added a nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian girl holding her pet cat which has been applied to the underside of the top. There is a stress crack running along the back of the trunk that we did have to glue to ensure strength in this area. We also remounted the hinges that hold the top in place since they were loose. Going to the exterior bottom underneath this trunk, we had to replace the two bottom slat boards. We also installed a set of four metal glides, one at each corner. This is a very nice and all original vertical wardrobe steamer trunk that has a label on it for Cappel Luggage Stores Dayton and Cincinnati. My research shows that Adam Cappel had an umbrella factory in Dayton Ohio and was in the luggage business. At this point I'm unclear whether he made luggage at the factory or simply sold it in the retail stores. It does have many of the characteristics of the Schmidt manufacturers in Oshkosh. Either way. Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Clinton Wall Steamer Trunk Antique Chest,Key&Tray
Nice Refinished Clinton Brand Flat Top Wall Trunk With Manufacturer's Label. Working Lock& Key, And Interior Tray Here is a very unique refinished patent dated and factory labeled Clinton Wall Trunk. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 33 1/4 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This trunk is named a wall trunk since it can be put right up against the wall and the lid can be lifted up without hitting the wall since very little space is needed for it to open properly. Most trunks need to be about three or four inches away from the wall for the lid to be opened. Look at the pictures and we have shown the signed and patent dated hinges. It is signed, Clinton Wall Trunk Mfg Co Clinton Mass Patented Feb 25 1890" We detailed these embossed numbers ... moreand letters with black paint to make them more legible. We are calling this a flat top steamer trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top, noticeable in the side view picture. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. The wood is in it's natural color which is a tannish brown color. There are a couple of typical stress cracks in the wood. Most all of the trunks that we refinish have one or more stress cracks. The front latches are original and work ok since the springs are in place. We have given this trunk a nice older sturdy working lock, signed"Yale" It comes with the proper key so you can lock your personal belongings away from others if you choose to do so. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a nice tray for the interior. It rests at the top edge. You can sort smaller items in this tray, then lift it up and place many more items deep inside the belly of the trunk. We have shown a close up picture of

Antique hip style steamer chest
This is a beautiful hip truck. The leather handles are missing as shown in the one photo. It has wheels on the bottom. The inside shows some stains but is very nice. No key. If someone would clear coat the wood and put new straps on it. It work look great. The tin has some rust, but the tin is a bronze color and so is the end of each wood strip. Approx. Very cool leather chest. It is very thick and high quality leather. The whole thing is VERY solid and heavy. It says Bond St. London on it. The locks are decorative. They clip open and closed. But there is actually no locking mechanism on the chest. I tried to find more about this particular chest online, but could not find anything. It seems to be pretty rare. You can see the craftsmanship is exceptional. The leather is solid. It has a great aged look to it, although I doubt it is more than ten or fifteen years because it has safety air holes in the back. Fresh to the market this all Leather Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk dated around the late 1900's.Serial Number- 765177) has been hidden away in an over grown shed in North Wales. The Trunk was custom made for an H. E. Gowar which is on both side panels. These custom made all leather trunks were much more expensive to purchase than the printed canvas patterns making this a rare find. The truck shows sign's of it's age(120+ years) the leather is cracked and worn in places. The trunk has it's own patina but it is in good condition, sturdy, with no holes in the leather which I feel was once black this could be brought back to it's original colour with a leather stain and waxed, all metal work is also in good condition with all four original LV rolling coasters, the Louis Vuitton logo can be found on the two clasps. With the inside and basket showing signs of wear and water damage again due to age, the logo can also be seen printed like an water mark on the removable basket material. Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Angle Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key&Tray
Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Wall Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area. And Interior Tray Here is a very unusual fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. It is unusual in which the top and back and front slat boards are angled at about 45 degrees. We have only had about four of these over the past thirteen years to refinish and that would be out of around 1500 trunks. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are some ... moretypical older distress marks on the wood. These character marks include older nicks and dings. Mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards, and there are a couple of stress cracks. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have these type of markings. This great trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. This trunk maker used a very nice amount of nice hardware on this trunk. A lot of it has embossed patterns to the metal. The front latches are original and they have a big number"3" at the top of them which we have highlighted in black paint. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. The trunk maker also did a good job of running vertical and horizontal outer slat boards on this trunk, especially on the sides. It is not very often that you have two vertical slat boards and a horizontal slat board running on the sides of the trunk. Anyhow, it gives it a nice, unique appearance. The side handles have been replaced with sturdy Amish made black leather stitched straps.

There is a leather carrying handle at either end. It is finished in a blue/black colour with an attractive patina to it. The catches work well but are a little stiff and there is no key for the locks. I nternally it has the original lchequered lining material. It is in good general condition but has a few signs of use as one might imagine. Antique DOME TOP HUMPBACK STEAMER TRUNK CHEST 1880'S
Hello Friends. This is an antique humpback trunk found here in rural wisconsin. UNRESTORED all original. Missing handles but hardware is there to replace them if desired. Approximately 130-140 years old. Nice designs on the tin work. I have pictures of all the side. She measures approximately 28 inches long 15 inches deep and about 16 inches or so inches high.
