We've seen this style of trunk referred to as"humpback" and"dome top" We think the metal may be Embossed tin but we can't say for sure. The trunk has considerable wear and is ready for a complete restoration. The front clasps are missing their bottoms. And one of the leather handles is broken. There is corrosion on the metal and a few splotches of white paint. The lining is torn, discolored and worn and there appear to be several cracks in the bottom. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. This is a really nice looking piece of social history. RUSTIC VINTAGE The trunk has a real `Treasure Chest` look about it. Made from tin, the lid has 6 top studs, reinforced corner patches, carrying handles at either end and fab vintage appeal. It has typical Victorian faux wood grain effect on the outside, Dimensions: approx 62cm in Length. 37cm in Width, 34cm in Depth. The trunk also retains its front lock/latch but the key is long gone. Inside is a red`ish colour. And does have surface rust, it displays all the knocks, scuffs and dings commensurate with age. This trunk would add an enormous amount of Old English. Vintage WWII Luggage Military Steamer Chest Trunk
For sale is a U.S. Military luggage style chest/trunk. The trunk measures 30 3/4" in width. 12 1/2" in height and 16 3/4" in depth. The trunk is complete with front leather handle(very worn) and is missing the single side handle. The lock has since been removed. The inside top compartment tray is in good shape. The paper lined inside is also in good condition with some wear.

Civil War Era Leather Deer Hide Skin Travel Trunk Stagecoach Chest Steamer Texas
This is a great old piece of folk art. I bought it from a lady who bought it at an antique store. She told me that it was Civil War era and that it is covered in Deer hide. She said that she lined it with fabric after she bought it. The leather is embossed with what makes me think of a Texas Star. Plus there are other decorative embossed accents. As you can see from the pictures some of the leather has come loose and it is ripped. Some is worn almost to the wood, on the back there are some water drip marks and as you can see plenty of inconsistency in color and wear. I do not know if the sides originally were covered but they are now exposed wood. Amazingly, the leather buckles are still intact and operational but it appears that a latch is missing front center. There are some exposed screws on the back where parts of the leather straps have ... moredeteriorated. A couple of rivets are missing. There be maybe other pieces missing, for example there are no handles on the sides. It opens and closes easily and seems to be a solid and sturdy structure. I think it is a fantastic decorator piece for a home, store or set, as well as a really cool piece of history. I cannot say I've ever seen another like it- especially with the embossed designs on the top. I believe the slats are made of Elm Wood. Inmterior I believe it to be Oak Wood and the rest is Crocodile Tin. It has been in my family since I can remember, a very long time. This beautiful medium sized Dome Top antique trunk. Is in Good condition, with only minor flaws. It measures 18"H x 26 1/2" L x 14" W. The exterior is stunning. Covered beautifully in a black colored tin. With oak slats, accented with black tin hardware, and a nice brass design, that is very desirable amongst collectors. Both side leather straps are in original condition. All of the hardware is original and no longer fasten. There is no key. The inside is beautiful original wood. Found this unusual. Beautiful and untouched Leather, Iron and Wooden Victorian Era Dome Style Steamer Trunk at a local sale. A huge trunk measuring 36" wide. 30" tall and 23" deep. Decorated with hand applied tacked leather all around, ornate iron and wood, this trunk was made for folks who traveled far and for many weeks or months at a time. A TRIPLE LOCK system is evident on the front, designed to keep their worldly possessions safe. On each side of the trunk there are remnants of labels that provide a visual history of the famous places that this trunk traveled to. There is a label for a hotel in Paris. A label for a baggage cabin on a Cunard Line steam ship, and most interesting.a label for the St. James Hotel in Jacksonville Florida. The hotel was a popular destination for the wealthy in the 1870's and 1880's and ... moreburned in the Great Fire of 1901.never to be rebuilt. The interior of the trunk is in nice untouched shape for it's age. Inside the lid is a drop down drawer with its original leather and tin clasp for holding it in position. When opened. Very cool aluminum locker! I think it's 1940's. Lots of rivets. Heavy latches. Great industrial age look! It measures 30" x 17" and 13 1/2" tall. No inside tray. Working& functional condition is very good. I opens and closes nice and tight. The latches catch and hold. The back hinges are heavy duty and move without issue. It's been well used. I assume well traveled. And it's got plenty of scratches. Dents, and imperfections in the aluminum. It still looks great! The leather handles are in great condition. This is an 1800's small sized domed trunk. All of the compartments are present and still look great. Exterior shows typical wear. There is a pencil written price of $1.50 on the bottom. The pics make this look like a typical big cumbersome trunk but it's actually much smaller with exterior measurements of 18x11x11 inches. Externally It is in great condition except for a paint run to the front, you can see it in most of the pictures. I think it could be removed with thinners or similar as the finish on the trunk is like a sort of vinyl or similar material but I thought I'd leave that to the buyer. Beautiful classic black Victorian paper lines the inside on all sides, the inside bottom and the inside top of the dome. The wood slats are in excellent condition. The wood finish still beautiful. The trunk closes with a lock(no key) in the middle and two latches. The hardware is antique brass and has an embossed fancy design which looks like a Celtic shamrock or design. 30" long x 18" tall x 17" deep. Weighs 24 pounds Great old trunk. Here is a turn of the century french steamer trunk. It has the Damier checkerboard canvas of louis vuitton and the lock and latches look just like the goyard locks and latches. the words"Hall du voyage Paris" are stamped on the lock. this is a very high quality french trunk that was likely a LV/Goyard competitor. Vintage 1925 Belber Steamer Wardrobe Trunk Cunard Queen Mary Art Deco NICE CHEST
A very nice piece of travel history. A 1925 Belber steamer trunk with original drawers and wood hangers. The stickers are original to the period Cunard and some have the Queen Mary on them with an original Queen Mary pennant included. The size is 41" high by 21 1/4"x 20 1/2" There are a few nicks and minor dings. There is no key. A rare and beautiful looking trunk. You'll have a hard time finding another one in this condition. I suggest local pick up in Forest City. PA. because this trunk is heavy and it would probably cost about $200 for shipping in the US. No over sea's shipping. Good Luck and Thank you.
