Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& ... moreisn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE NOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! Large size 36 x 21 inches and 24 inches tall Great size for a coffee table. Tv stand, statement piece for any room, or as blanket chest or for storage very sturdy. The metal detailing throughout is stunning. The footing I’ve never seen. The latches say“patd 79” and the middle plate says. Patd May 54 and April 73. Hence, this is pre-1880. The inside is rough but it still has all the Victorian inserts! The inserts are in really tough shape, ripped, water damaged but it’s all there. The entire drawer/insert comes out. Size is approximately 32”X25”X14” It’s all original…I won’t even dust it. IT STILL HAS THE KEY AND IT WORKS! And. As always, a few notes from the disclaimer department. Everything is“as is. Antique flat top Trunk- Metal. Painted black with leather handles. There is one latch in the middle with a key hole. But I do not have the key and there are 2 buckle type latches(they work well) at either end and then also 2 slide in latches(they also work well) There are 3 hinges on the back side of the lid and they show some rust, but still function well. There has been some shelf or contact paper applied to part of the interior, but it is all loose and should come off easily. The bottom of the trunk is definitely in need of some TLC. I did not attempt any restoration, just wiped with a dry rag to remove loose dirt and dust. Other than the outside bottom of the trunk it is fairly good condition. This is a really cool metal and leather steamer made by the Wichita Trunk Company. The metal has some rust. But no holes. The leather has some wear, but no rips. One handle is present, one is not. All hardware is intact. The lovely flocked interior is in good shape, but could use a little vacuuming in the bottom. The tray is there, but the leather hinges on one side of the cover has broken as can be seen in the photo. This antique Hartmann Tourobe is still in great condition. However. Like all original Tourobe's from the turn of the century, there are some scuff marks, scratches and such on the exterior. Look closely at the destination it traveled. It was sent from a teacher in Germany to an officer in Brooklyn New York. What a distance! Inside still looks great and has the original hangers. 6 total hangers, four for suits and two for pants, internal straps are complete. The case has two sections divided by the hinges: 4 divided sections for folded clothing and miscellaneous items secured with adjustable fastening fabric straps. a hanging wardrobe on one side which has a cotton twill covered pad to protect the suits. which fastens with two sets of stud buttons holding the clothes in place. 2 of the 3 buttons are functional. Antique Trunk Circa 1860's to 1870's With A Wonderful Restoration!
For sale today is a restored is a small to medium size stagecoach style humpback trunk. The restoration of this great old humpback turned out very very nice. Based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk as from the 1860's to 1880's which makes this awesome old humpback over a 100 years- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid and the wood has been given multiple coats of clear. Four bottom slats and four original metal wheels and the trunk rolls easily. The trunk has the two original hinges which are fancy, tight, HD and the lid closes well. It has 24 pieces of original polished hardware. Still has the original brass center lock which has been polished and there is no key. A new black leather lid lifter was installed. The original mechanical ... morelatches are HD, fancy, tight and work well. There are six original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior has been removed and the original tray was rebuilt. All the metal is in very good condition. There are sixteen polished metal nail covers. the lid stay is original. I found 3 patent dates on the trunk. The oldest is on the keyhole of March 1869 and April 1877 and May 1870 on the lid stay which makes this awesome old humpback as much as 136 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid and the metal has been painted. Colt Firearms "Coltrock" Tree Trunk Humidor Called "The Jar"
Up for bid I have the rarely offered Colt Firearms"Coltrock" Tree Trunk Humidor Called"The Jar" Because of their size the were easily damaged and as they are not repairable most got discarded. This is only missing the Sponge Holder that attached to the lit screw. I am told the were made of either brass or nickel plated tin. There is no indication which was in this humidor. This has 2 cracks that run vertical but there is no movement or separation in them. I took most all the pictures out in the late day sunshine to get the best lighting but that did not show the cracks up very well. My camera flash showed them better. The only other flaws that are on this piece are a very tiny chip on one of the knob flower petals. It is so small that if I did not mention it you would probably miss seeing it. You can see it in the pictures ... more2& 3 below. Lastly there is a human hair size scratch on the lid. I took 4 pictures of the rim as that is usually the part that is always chipped. This one is excellent in that regard. It still has all its original feet as well. I think my pictures are pretty good so you can make an informed bid from them. Description These bags were purchased in the late 80's. Used sparingly. They are both in excellent functional condition. The standard trunk measures 6" x 10" x 7" deep. It has 3 side pockets and a removable shoulder strap as well as a strap handle on top. There are no rips. Tears or holes. It is a soft sided bag with foam shaping and attaches to the rack with velcro. The smaller bag is a six-pack cooler. Foam insulated with a plastic liner. It will stand alone or will fit inside the larger trunk. The velcro rack attachment straps convert to a shoulder strap if desired. It also is free from damage. On close inspection both bags show a little color spotting. I have not tried to clean them and offer no opinion if this can be remedied. It is not apparant from 2 feet away so never bothered me. This item is a very nice small metal flattop steamer trunk. It measures 28" x 14.5"x 18" It has the new leather handles. Someone painted this trunk red. We did not change it. The front bottom section has four paint chips shown in picture 9. Even with the paint chips this is a very nice little trunk. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and black and red floral pattern material. This is a very nice little trunk, which would make any little girl a very nice Christmas present. This large trunk has a beautiful patina. It appears to be in excellent condition with the noted scuffing and scratching that comes with age and transport. The paint in the address is bold and bright. Hardware is all there and has a beautiful patina. Large key is original to the trunk. Hinges are sturdy. Has been used for the past 20 years as a blanket chest. You would have to look hard to find a better restored origianl Genny Lind stagecoach trunk. This mid 1800s trunk has had a great restoration including new leather straps and buckles on the outside. Lovely quilted interior. And beatiful restoration of the tooled leather covering. And it does not smell! On the interior it still sports the wood restraining flap that would allow you to fill that side of the trunk and then close it without everything falling out.
