The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Some of these were made with secret compartments. But I havent had the time to look. The Handles the lock& the hinges are bold gothicstyle hand forged iron It is still useable but I have miss placed the pins for the lid. All the wood is in good condiion on all 4 sides and lid. At a San Francisco estate sale in the 1970s, I thought it was totally magic. It was perfect to hold my treasures. The*camphorwood chest is quite old, and though it has some age-damage on the outside, the inside is immaculate. The original label is still in place, as the photos show, and the camphor smell is delightful. If a person wanted to lightly sand the wood, it would probably have a much stronger fragrance. The lid and part of the chest is covered with what I believe to be something like painted vellum. Vellum is specially prepared animal skin that was used for writing material long ago. Years ago, the leather covering dried out and tore, causing someone to try mending it with red tape. Shown in the photos. Here a fine mid 19th century Pennsylvania blanket chest. Perhaps it was a wedding present for Marion and Leroy. It is constructed of pine with all surfaces painted with the exception of the inside and bottom. It is a very nice display size with outside measurements of 36" wide. 22" tall and 18" deep. The folk painted surfaces have some wear as shown and there is fine crazing/ oxidation attributable to the age. Very fine shape for 164 years old. Nice forged strap hinges. I believe the 2 pieces of wood to reinforce the underside of the top were been added in the 20th century. It is very solid throughout. The chest is solid wood with hand painted floral insets. The floral insets look like gorgeous oil paintings of the past with roses and other flowers- the colors are RICH AND VIBRANT. The closure latch is ornate and pretty. There are handles on the side. The interior is completely lined in burgandy felt. Depending on the way the light hits it. I would say it is a Dark Walnut or Light Cherry shade. It is not lighter on one side moreso than the other. Measurements: 14.75" long x 10" high x 7.25" deep. We are pleased to offer this beautiful. 4 drawer chest. This is a fairly modern piece, approximately 15 years old. The chest features French, Louis XV or Provincial lines and is painted with several Chinese scenes. The scenes depict people, birds and various landscapes with cherry blossoms and lotus flowers. The scenes are features on each side of the chest, the top, and on the drawer faces. The four cabriole legs feature a ribbon and flower swag detail. There is extensive gold gilding outlining the table top, the legs, and the drawer faces. Each corner of the scalloped table top features a gold lattice design which is quite striking. The table has a black painted finish with red paint visible in some areas underneath the black. The finish is aged with a deeply crackled technique. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE PAINTED BLANKET CHEST OF DRAWERS Pennsylvania. C. 1790-1810; Nearly Untouched Item# 1406IPP23A This absolute jewel remains in nearly pristine condition. Retaining a very early and almost certainly original painted surface with untouched structure and rugged charm. Crafted in Pennsylvania, the style of the hinges and drawer construction suggest the form could be as late as 1810. The heavy and eternal construction, typical of the state, is lightened by the whimsical nature of the painted surface. The whole is framed nicely between the crackled and worn brown top and dark(possibly brown) feet and base molding- the facade is divided evenly into thirds, the upper two-thirds decorated in a speckled ochre embellished ... moreby brilliant red rectangular panels with inset corners spaced evenly around the midriff. A thin molding divides the lower one-third, this with a muted earthy red pigment with ochre speckles grounding the three drawers- these have a beautiful teal pigment, the same tone employed in much of the thin molding. Construction of the form is typical of the Southeastern counties of Pennsylvania. The top with open tongues on either end finished in breadboard ends affixed with three wedged through-tenons; note the face of the tenon is left open along the front of the chest, exposing the quality of craftsmanship. This lifts over a pair of wrought iron strap hinges, these moved just slightly to account for shrinkage of the top over time. The interior is clean other than a single till, craftily constructed to conceal three tiny drawers in a compartment beneath the primary space, accessed by lifting upward on the front panel. All three drawers are constructed of poplar, the bottoms deeply chamfered and the backs nailed along the back edge. Stunning true Vintage Hand painted Shabby chick chest of drawers/ dresser
this is a true vintage chest of drawers. Very large, and is truly equip with spaciously deep drawers! the whole unit measures 48 in. tall, 19 in. deep, and 32 in. wide. The chest is a hand me down from my mom's teen years, so the 1960's. It is a well made wood dresser. This has been moved more times across country, ans seas than I care to remember, accordingly it has character! Bumps, scrapes, scuffs, but it is solid. We charted a dear friend to repaint the drawer fronts and the top only, for the fresh face approach to the good old faithful mint pastel worn paint it's been saturated in for the better part of 35 years, previously a bold shade of magenta from some of the scuff marks, mom denies it LOL: the drawers them selfs are the whole heart of this unit, meaning a SOLID WOOD SKELLETON SIDES, BOTTOM, AND TOP. The way good furniture ... morewas once made, allowing the thin boning of the frame to allow maximum drawer size, space, depth, and width! The drawers are just shy of 10 in. deep! not just the way the drawer fronts”allow” them to look deep visually, the drawers are as deep as the entire front shows and allows, there were originally no drawer pulls on the unit, it was made to really be a 2 handed endeavor to open and close due to the ability to hold so much. So it has the grooved finger slots under the top lip of each drawer. The hardware that is on it now was for saving fingertips, and nails. All drawers do open and clothes smoothly, the top drawer has 2 dividers in it making the 3 large bin top drawer dream come true, clean on the inside, nothing fancy some drawer liner paper in a vintage“wood grain” lines 99% of the bottoms. The hand painted detail is just amazing, done in more colors than we thought possible, it's bold, bright, yet done so well it's calming not busy. In a Zen, Buddha, life, harmony, earthy theme.
