Super clean interior. With the original iron lock, key, hinges and brass escutcheon. This blanket chest is a wonderful size. 44" wide, 24" tall, 21" deep. Condition: Very fine clean condition. Minor dings and scratches. The right side lid back edge. Has a stabilised split in the wood, near the hinge mounting, it is fine at the moment, but might want to get fixed with glue and clamps. the keeper is broke, and the chest will not lock shut. Antique Pennsylvania PA Painted Miniature Blanket Chest Signed American Folk Art
WOW! I mean W.O.W. FRESH from an incredible estate this past weekend. This OLD(avid collectors) estate was packed with EARLY AMERICAN items-furniture. Boxes, chests, maps, ect. I snatched this baby up! This early Pennsylvania chest is gorgeous-all hand made-dovetailed construction with square nails. BEAUTIFUL original paint! Signed several times in several places on the bottom-I can only make one out for sure-Amanda Batz. If you google her, you will find right away an Amanda Batz who was born in Pennsylvania on May 1st, 1836. I don't know if this was passed down to her or painted by her? There are other names and possibly dates which, with a little more time and effort, could probably be made out and someone could probably figure out when and for whom and possibly by whom this was made. I will leave this enticing mystery for the lucky ... morenew owner to solve! A COLLECTORS DREAM! Almost 19" across. A little over 11" tall and almost 10&1/2" deep. Excellent. Solid condition with no smells. It looks like one of the front legs was repaired at some point.

AMERICAN RECESSED PANEL PAINTED BLANKET CHEST Probably Lancaster or Montgomery County. Pennsylvania c. 1820-40 Item# 130110PZS26 This is an exceptional piece in untouched condition. The two board top is delightfully painted in a somewhat scrubbed brown on cream. Surrounded by an ogival molding affixed with a series of cut iron nails. It lifts on original steel hinges to reveal it's original untouched till and a spacious interior constructed using double-pinned tenon mortise construction with panels set into the mitered frame. The grain painted facade of the chest is highlighted with the recessed panels framed in cream molding, these with a delightful maroon wash that still allows the sharply ribbed grains to show through brilliantly. Identical to the front, the back of the chest is constructed with a recessed panel, the entire back with ... morea red painted wash. Resting over it's original ogee molded base, the case was crafted without feet, the underside remaining untouched and fully original. This is an absolute treasure for serious collectors of American Folk Art and period works from Pennsylvania. In untouched and very fine condition. This piece remains in an admirable state of preservation throughout. Measurements: 37 1/2" wide x 17 1/2" deep x 16 7/8" high Condition Report: Untouched worn original painted surface. Original untouched hardware(lock. Hinges, latch all original) no key available. String and eyehooks are probably later, though the eyehook on the lid is hand forged and possibly original. Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. Antique Lebanon County, Pa., Painted Blanket Chest Spectacular Circa 1800
For sale we have a Pennsylvania Painted/Decorated Blanket Chest of dovetailed construction. With three drawers and flat bracket feet. The arched tombstone panels on both the top surface and the front panel are dappled in a dark blue/green hue with a sunburst design in each arch. The tombstone panels are surrounded by an eye catching sawtooth design. The drawer fronts are painted in the same blue/green color and have brass pulls. The overall background color of the chest is an earthy orange. The inside of the chest reveals the original till, hinges and jaw lock. Based on comparisons in Fabian's"The Pennsylvania German Decorated Chest" this piece appears to date from 1800 from Dauphin County which is now Lebanon County. We did not"clean up" the surface of this chest leaving it in"as found" condition. There ... moreis normal wear one would expect to see, a replaced center drawer pull, and one of the strap hinges is broken. They look like they are having a session. Talking over all the problems of the world. Which to them at that time was their country. One of the men is walking down the path to the other men. Two of the men are kneeling together and having a conversation over the scroll they have rolled out on a large rock. One man is looking up to heaven and has his back to everyone else. Two other men are looking at each other and to me it looks like they are grasping each others wrist. And the last man is standing behind these two listening to what ever they are having a conversation about. There is also a river. Lots of bamboo trees. Flowers. Some of the picture is worn off. but not enough so that you can't see the picture. My photo isn't the best but you can kind of tell. The outside of the chest is a light gold color with red brown designs. It is like wicker but it's not wicker. The latch is brass. Round and etched design. A small lock can be used. There are brass corners on top and bottom and all the way around. Very beautiful. Is light weight but sturdy. Weighs 15 lbs. Size is 29.5 long, 18.5 wide and 14 inches deep. Inside is clean and nice. The camphor tree comes from Asian countries. It is know as a exotic wood. The tree has to grow fifty years before it is mature. Mature trees have large burls which is like veneer. Which is like very expensive paneling. The camphor tree has medical purpose also. Many woodsmen realized that thier nasel congestion eased while cutting this wood. Starting being used in vapor rubs as we know it. Also for muscle rub. The camphor wooden chest also deters moths and helps silver form tarnishing. Antique French Large Painted Tin Sewing or Jewelry Chest Early 1800's
This is a very lovely antique French hand painted tin sewing or jewelry chest on wheels. Very nice early piece I have been told it dates from the early 1800's. It has wonderful teal blue detail around the edges with roses on the top and birds on the front. The lid opens and the front drops down to reveal the top section of three compartments along with three tin drawers with small metal knobs. All original. One drawer is divided the other two are not. There may have been a mirror on the inside of the lid or perhaps it was upholstered but now it is tin or zinc.There is a"secret compartment" on the top, the center section slides out to reveal a small compartment inside. The chest sits on four antique wooden wheels or casters. A super unique old chest. Condition: Certainly not perfect but all in all very stable and sturdy still. ... moreThere are areas of paint loss and small spots of rust or corrosion here and there. There are several small areas which are missing trim. Mainly along the bottom edge(see photos) There are minor dings and dents to the tin throughout. One of the dividers for the top section is loose. As stated above, the original mirror is missing. There is a lock for the front section but no key. The top lid fits down over the front to keep it closed, It fits a bit snugly but will close. All four wheels are secure and strong. No holes, no rust thru, nothing that would prevent this from actually being used or displayed. It is an overall color of pale yellow with gold. The scrolling is a teal blue as is the area around the lock. On the front the birds are gold and black, the roses are gold. Inside is a wonderful mustard brown color. It is all hand painted and probably handmade. It is a most amazing chest. Measurements: Stands 15" tall x 14" wide and 11" deep(measurements when closed. It weighs 9 lbs unpacked. Antique Document Storage Chest -- Oak, Black Lacquer, Oriental Painted Scenes
This is a heavy oak storage chest fitted with divider slats on the inside as if for document storage. Rather than the more common blanket chest style that comes in this shape and size. It measures about 33" x 16" at the top, and stands about 20½" tall plus the scroll-sawn backstop, which adds another 5" I'll mostly let the pictures do the talking, but you can see how it's been coated in black paint or lacquer, with the oriental scenes and symbols hand painted on most of the flat surfaces. The back is mostly not lacquered, obviously intended to be backed up against a wall, and someone has handwritten the number"424" on it, and, rather redundantly, the word"oak. It does indeed appear to be made primarily of oak, and did I already mention how heavy it is? I don't see any manufacturer identification ... moreon it. And I really have no idea of its age. I don't think they make these any more, certainly not out of oak, and the attention to detail- the butterfly shaped brass lock plate, for instance, and the quality of the paintings, and the matching scroll-sawn front edges of the dividers- suggest the workmanship of a bygone era more than a late 20th century reproduction. The front. As you can see, is hinged at the bottom, so the whole front panel opens out and down, with the lock at the upper center. We don't have a key for it, but it has been retrofitted with a magnetic catch to prevent it from falling open. Other than that, it looks solid and sturdy, and heavy. Apart from the small areas of delamination on the left side of the front, it is in very intact condition, with maybe a few nicks and stress cracks here and there, but more in the nature of"character" and"patina" than actual damage. One weird thought I keep having is that the document storage style of this item is more akin to a desktop than to a free-standing chest. With that in mind. Primitive Vintage 1900's Small GREEN painted TRUNK TOOL CHEST BOX iron handles
1900's Vintage green painted& dovetailed construction carpenters tool box/chest/trunk. Grungy uncleaned condition with old musty tool oil smell(it had tools in it when found) The hinges& latch are replacements. But still have age& oxidation to the metal. The handles are metal. The lid has 2 gouges in the wood on the right top end. Condition is worn/used with paint splatters(mostly the left end) scratches, crackling, splits to the wood(side ends) etc. The zoom feature shows these details& more, so please use it before placing a bid! I want you to know just what you are purchasing, a fun old imperfect box with great color!
