The entire surface is inlaid with some rather intricate marquetry work, the musical instruments central to the commode are flanked on either side by books hanging from knotted ribbon, the same arrangement employed on either side of the case. Two large drawers make up the case, each crafted of solid oak secondaries dovetailed front and back. The surface is embellished with bold gilded bronze mounts along the apron, at each corner of the top and along the entire length of each leg, these terminating in very attractive Lion's paw sabots. The shaped marble top is heavy and in wonderful condition, restored at the back left corner. This is a simply outstanding work for anyone passionate about Neoclassical forms. It is a very formal and angular form that never tires or grows out of fashion. Perfect for a vivid interior, this is a piece that works flexibly in any number of design scenarios. Measurements: 43" wide x 19 1/8" deep x 34" high Condition Report: Some veneer buckling here and there; concave inlaid panels with some inpainting/overglazing; repair to lower right corner of bottom drawer. There is a wood damage as shown in the 5th picture on the corner. I replaced all the hardware about 20 years ago. I am guessing at the Oak wood type. I am not sure. Here's a pair of French half round cabinets from the late 1800's The Bottom drawer on one does not go in all the way. I think the wood tabs glued at the back are wider in this drawer and it is an easy fix. These were used in a mortuary for over 80 years. Tops are inlaid. There are two drawers each. Very exquisite. Not perfect but almost. In the upper peninsula of MI and you would need to take care of shipping, possibly with the realtor at this end unless you move fast. A very nice three-drawer 1880-1885 Eastlake chest with a beautiful pink and gray marble top. Which can be lifted off for moving. Note the interesting cove-and-pin construction of the drawers. All drawers will lock. But there is no key. It takes a barrel key, and have found that keys of friends will easily work the locks. Spoon-carved type of decorations along side each end of the top drawer. Note the construction details and condition in the photos. Size: 44"l. x 22"w. x 30"h. Chest has not been refinished and the marble top has not been polished(probably not ever) Though it would enhance the piece to have it polished. Due to its age, there has been some shrinkage of the wood, which is normal. This piece is a perfect size for storing rolls of gift wrap.
