It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! Note: Not shipping overseas nor to Alaska on this one. Only to domestic United States. I believe from air plane panels. The quality is military over-build which is very durable and tough. On the top of this trunk a hole punched stencil reads'Major Ben W. Hunsaker. M.A.T.S. Andrews A.F. Base, Wash. D.C. M.A.T.S. stands for Military Air Transport Service. Activated on 1 June 1948. M.A.T.S was a consolidation of the United States Navy Naval Air Transport Service(NATS) and the United States Air Force Air Transport Command(ATC) into a single, joint, unified command. It was inactivated and discontinued on 8 January 1966 when the Air Force and Navy set up separate strategic airlift commands. There is a red metal tag riveted to the front reading'KOWA Industry' and leather carry handles at both ends. Two latches and a locking mechanism secure the trunk. Matching KOWA key is included. As you can see in the photos the trunk is in good vintage condition with normal wear consistent with age and it’s use. All which adds to the character of the piece. There is some faint writing on the lid in faded marker. See photos. This trunk is 29.75” long x 17” wide x 13.5” high. Use as a coffee table, end table, or storage chest. Here up for your consideration is a great box it's leather covered around the sides on the top and then has metal straps with metal studds. The goldish color on the very bottom is painted not metal. It is about 9 inches long and about 6 inches high. It has a metal closure and there are no chips cracks or breaks. The inside is painted black and is all wood. It is a newer piece not a older one. Civil War Era Leather Deer Hide Skin Travel Trunk Stagecoach Chest Steamer Texas
This is a great old piece of folk art. I bought it from a lady who bought it at an antique store. She told me that it was Civil War era and that it is covered in Deer hide. She said that she lined it with fabric after she bought it. The leather is embossed with what makes me think of a Texas Star. Plus there are other decorative embossed accents. As you can see from the pictures some of the leather has come loose and it is ripped. Some is worn almost to the wood, on the back there are some water drip marks and as you can see plenty of inconsistency in color and wear. I do not know if the sides originally were covered but they are now exposed wood. Amazingly, the leather buckles are still intact and operational but it appears that a latch is missing front center. There are some exposed screws on the back where parts of the leather straps have ... moredeteriorated. A couple of rivets are missing. There be maybe other pieces missing, for example there are no handles on the sides. It opens and closes easily and seems to be a solid and sturdy structure. I think it is a fantastic decorator piece for a home, store or set, as well as a really cool piece of history. I cannot say I've ever seen another like it- especially with the embossed designs on the top. Decorated with hand applied tacked leather all around, ornate iron and wood, this trunk was made for folks who traveled far and for many weeks or months at a time. A TRIPLE LOCK system is evident on the front, designed to keep their worldly possessions safe. On each side of the trunk there are remnants of labels that provide a visual history of the famous places that this trunk traveled to. There is a label for a hotel in Paris. You are bidding on/ buying an ANTIQUE 1920s GENUINE COWHIDE LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK. I come across quite a few suitcases. I have yet to see one in as good a shape. And as unique a design as this one. It is the size of a small suitcase. But shaped like a trunk. It measures 24 inches across the front 13 1/2 inches deep, and 10 inches tall. It has steamer style straps. Silver accent hardware, all original. It almost has a walrus or elephant texture to the hide of the material. You can see the patterning up close in photo 12. The top part of this piece expands up about 3 inches if you fill it to do so. If not it sits flat. Photos 8& 11. There are 2 straps around the case. In great condition. On the front of the case there is a lock latch, and 2 securing latches. All 3 in good order. Inside looks good. All the straps there are in great shape ... moretoo. Still wrapped and lined with original deer hide lining(you can still see the fur! and 18th century printed wallpapering within! Personalized with metal edges and bosses, forming the initials AT at the top, as shown. With wear and loss to the hide, also the hinges stressed, although the lock components remain present, as shown. Wood slightly warped from age. The paper lining, although chipped and well worn, contains characteristic pre 1800s Fs for the Ss in the text, thus allowing for the possibility that this was in fact a 1700s chest. I KNOW this small drum came out of an estate auction in Vermont. ALL the items being sold at this estate auction, belonged to a woman whose ancestors lived on this North American Continent thousands of years before the Pilgrims ever set foot on any rock, in what is now known as Plymouth, Massachusetts! My eight photos, taken from ever possible angle of this small drum, will give you an excellent idea as to its appearance and its overall physical condition. The golden saddle-brown coloration of this item's leather drum heads, is NOT the natural obverse coloration of the leather used to make this small drum, but is the result of some kind of stain or coloration added, AFTER the drum was already made! Gorgeous Vintage Hat Trunk This large square trunk is absolutely stunning. It has lovely brown leather trim edges. Leather straps and handles and brass fastenings. Inside it is lined with a cream and purple striped cloth fabric with multi-coloured straps to hold the lid open. It also comes with an incredibly rare and unique brass insert that slots inside the trunk. It is made of brass and wood and has 5 red mounds in which a hat would be fastened with a pin to allow more than 1 hat to be stored in the trunk when travelling. I have never seen anything like it. It is in great condition overall with just the right amount of vintage wear around the handles and corners. The stitching in one corner has come away slightly. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. This is a rare find as you don't find sole tooled leather trunks made by the Haskell Brothers Trunk Makers of Chicago very often. The original wood strips and metal"feet" are in good working order. The lock was made by Excelcior Lock and has a patent date of 1864. There is a key which"almost" turns the lock and guessing some lubrication may fix it? I have done nothing to the leather except wipe the dust off. Straps are missing and one handle and strap retainer is inside the trunk. One end is stenceled'Rochester. Minn' Neat trunk which could be used to store bedding at the foot of your bed or even a coffee table(no inside odor) If refurbished it would make a nice travel chest on the back of your vintage automobile. Quite large at approximately 30 1/2" by 17 1/2" by 18 1/2" tall and it weighs approx ... more40 pounds. P lease look closely at the pictures. VTG 1930s LEATHER WARDROBE SUITCASE / STEAMER TRUNK Coffee Table antique storage
A Vintage Wardrobe Trunk from the 1930s or thereabouts. Made of a rich chestnut leather. With brass fittings and a canvas interior. A wonderful item that would make a great coffee table. It's very solid and quite heavy. Made by American firm Leed's Tested Travelwear. This particular style is known as a'wardrobe suitcase' And came about in the 20s and 30s. When ship travel was giving way to air travel, and clothes also became less bulky and so smaller luggage was sufficient. It's a hybrid between the classic wardrobe trunk, and a suitcase, but still having the sections and hanging facilities of a wardrobe trunk. Hartmann’s version was called a“Tourobe. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. The fitted interior is a complex formation of interlocking boxes and compartments, still retained though overall in rough visual condition. The opened lid has it's own compartment, held in with two brass slides that lock in on the right and left- this flips down for a large storage box. On top of this is an old torn label, presumably from the retailer of the trunk, noting" Baier" as the establishment at 26 South Second Street in St. Louis. Two chestnut colored leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" wide by 8 1/2 inches long. Thickness is 1/4" Four brass plated metal strap ends. 1" long split head brass tacks to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the metal strap ends. The handles measure approx 10 1/2" metal end to metal end but can be shortened by cutting a bit off of the leather strap if required to fit. free postage

Offered- An outstanding Leather over Wood Society Trunk. The trunk is in extremely good condition- with just a couple of minor flaws. The trunk measures 18 inches across- 10 inches wide- and stands 11 1/2 inches tall. Trunks of this nature were widely used during the Victorian era- to hold Society Hats and other paraphernalia associated with that particular Society. This trunk is marked: photo#10) G.O. Gordon Lodi. Wis. Robert Macoy(Cross- 3- Period) I do not know which Society the Cross and 3 represent. The interior of the trunk is Cedar Wood. There is a form to hold the Society Hat- and a drop down inner lid to hold other accessories. There are a couple of cracks in the Cedar lining. There is a label on the inner lid that reads: The M. C. Lilly Company Manufacturers of Military and Society Goods Columbus. Ohio There is also a silver colored ... moreplaque over the lock with the above manufacture noted. The leather on this trunk is a beautiful Amber/Medium Brown color- with a darker brown outline. The stitching is perfect and all of the rivets are 100% intact. There are very heavy duty Black Metal Hinges with a patent date of 1866. The leather is in very good condition- as the photos reflect- with scuffing and/or scraping commensurate with age. The silver colored lock is fully intact however I do not have the key. The lock is marked: Pat. April 1877(Over 2 Stars) The leather handle is perfect. As is the case with trunks of this nature- the straps that connect to the buckles on the front are used and very fragile. They are intact but do have breaks. I have taped the backs for stability. Also- the left front leather loop that holds the top leather strap in place is missing- please see Photo#9. This is a very nice item- I have a couple of these trunks in my personal collection and they are great for storage- perfect for fragile Christmas Decoration. I have had this in my living room but need to downsize and am offering this for sale for the first time. I have owned many trunks over the years and have a couple more I will be putting up for auction soon. But this one has always been my favorite. I have been told this Camel Back Trunk is from the 1800s. But I am not sure of the actual date it was made. It has great metal work on it. And even though it has some use over the years the patina on it is perfect. This really is trunk that could be the center of anyone collection. Also as far as condition this is trunk is over 100 years old so there is going to be years of use on this trunk. The metal work is all there except for a small piece on the top of the trunk. Check the photos for condition issues. Because of the size and weight of this Trunk the shipping is higher then normal. I will refund any shipping that is not used. c 1800 HIDE Folk Art CHEST Trunk DOCUMENT Americana PRIMITIVE Leather BOX
Purchased at an estate auction: a circa 1800 deer hide covered document box/ chest. The domed box is lined with newspaper. Much of which is still intact. I have tried to determine a date of the newspaper, but I cannot find a year. There are a couple of articles about"Mr. Jefferson" which could date this piece earlier than 1800(I am not an authority-just a guesser) The 12" x 7 1/4" x 6" tall box is completed with leather hinges, a metal handle, and metal strips and tacks. The body of the box is wood. The piece weighs 3 1/2 pounds. There are losses to the hide hair, the leather strip across the front, and the metal strips on the top, some tack losses, etc. Please note the pictures for further detail. Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk (Rare - All Leather) 1800-1899
Fresh to the market this all Leather Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk dated around the late 1900's.Serial Number- 765177) has been hidden away in an over grown shed in North Wales. The Trunk was custom made for an H. E. Gowar which is on both side panels. These custom made all leather trunks were much more expensive to purchase than the printed canvas patterns making this a rare find. The truck shows sign's of it's age(120+ years) the leather is cracked and worn in places. The trunk has it's own patina but it is in good condition and sturdy, all metal work is also in good condition with all four original LV rolling coasters, the Louis Vuitton logo can be found on the two clasps. On the inside of the trunk you will find the Louis Vuitton Label. With the inside and basket showing signs of wear and slight water damage again due to ... moreage, the logo can be also be seen printed like an water mark on the removable basket material. The trunk measures 30" x 23" x 20" making it an ideal size. We have not overly cleaned up the trunk and it's brass work other than a little oil and wax for protection, leaving this to the purchaser's chose, to leave as is or have professionally restored either way this is a unusual Louis Vuitton item.
