Vintage steamer trunk/suitcase. Leather handle and brass closures w/ ORIGINAL key. Measures 28" long. 15.5" wide and 10" high. All black outside with black metal and brass trim. Paper lined wood inside. Has a removable shelf. Some of the paper is getting old and brittle. Mostly there and in good condition. Very little rust, gives this trunk beautiful character. Heavy of course, 21 lbs. without packaging. Great decorator piece.

Constructed from hand tooled leather. Over a cedar trunk, this Petacas is from the late 17 th or very early 18 th century. The majority of Spanish Colonial Petacas are from Peru and the thick hand tooled leather is decorated with regional flora. Animals and birds. The designs are then accented with paint along with detailed hand forged iron. The lock plate and long hinges are file-cut on the edges and the fancy lock hasp has a hooded figure at the top. This figure most likely is a hooded Spanish Monk. As nice as the outside looks there is a surprise on the inside. There is a painting under the cover depicting a shapard playing his flute while watching over his flock of sheep. In the background are the steep Andes moutains you would find in Peru. Measuring only 13in wide by 21in long by 8 ¾” tall this circa-1800 Leather Document Chest is in remarkable original condition. I found that some of the rose-head nails used to hold the lock plate and hasp were replaced years ago. The leather is near perfect and there you will see some of the original painted surface. Auction includes two black leather straps 9 1/2" long by 1 1/4" wide and about 1/4" thick pre-slotted to receive the prongs on the retainers. Four gold painted pronged metal retainers approx. 3 1/2" by 1 1/4" Sixteen split tacks for nailing the retainers(Eight 1" split tacks for the inside and eight 3/4" split tacks for the outside) Once the retainers are nailed in place you have your movable handle. This design will allow for the handle to flatten out when not in use. Drill the sides of the trunk about 1/4" where the prong is to be located. Here is a very nice Antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Its the highest end model with all brass hardware and leather trim and a zinc bottom. Interior is clean with 2 trays. This is the very early hand woven linen monogram canvas which was produced from 1896-1904. The serial number 106906 should put it around 1899. Two black leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" by 3/16" thick eight inches long. Four brass plated metal strap ends painted black one side. Split head brass tacks-eight 1" long to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the strap ends. The handles measure approx 10 1/2" metal end to metal end but can be shortened by cutting a bit off of the leather strap if required to fit. free postage

This is a great antique trunk that at one time was used by Lumpee& Russ Harness Makers; I cannot make out the rest of the wording. The trunk is structurally solid. The valet tray has two holes but this could be nicely refinished. The top tray has two sections with one that does have the leather/button loop closure intact. There is no key in the locking mechanism that was made by Yale Towne MFG out of Stamford. Conn. It weighs just under 55 pounds. This is being sold as is. The trunk has a drab cloth lining contrasted by a brilliant blue cardboard door with brightly colored trim that opens to reveal a separate storage compartment ... morein the lid. When you open the compartment you can see two metal strap springs(the same brilliant blue color) which keep the top from collapsing under the weight of other trunks that may be piled on top of it in transit. On the bottom of the trunk is the remnant of a shipping label that reads, Wel. and the rest is torn off. It most likely said"Wells Fargo. I have gently taped a piece of a polyester film over the label to keep it from disintegrating further. CONDITION: The good news is. This trunk has the potential for a beautiful new life with the proper restoration, but that's not something I have the necessary credentials to do. The bad news is, it has many cosmetic issues, which I will separate into categories. Here's the 411. LEATHER- Dry in some places. But no significant loss, just a tiny piece at one corner. Many dark stains, likely caused by exposure to the elements, i.e. extreme heat, cold, rain and mud, not to mention gun oil and horse sweat and all the dirty hands it would have passed through on its way! Estate Find ~ Early Very Tiny Document Box Miniature Trunk Original Leather
This is a real antique that is adorabley tiny ~ miniature size trunk or document box measuring approx. 10" wide x approx. 5-1/2" x 4-1/2" high with a slightly dome top lid. The outside of the box has the original leather. Lock, tack strips and tacks as well as the original handle on the top that appears to be brass? The box itself looks like pine wood, we have no key. The hinges were originally tabs of leather, the inside is covered in old newspaper? I don't see any dates but I would place this box in the 1800's. Solid box that holds a lot of secrets from years past. Imagine this box riding on stage coaches and holding important documents or better yet the lifetime savings in gold coins! The leather is worn but looks pretty good for its age(you look at the photos and decide) there are loose pieces on the backside that could be glued down. The hinges were old tabs of leather one has split and both have fallen away. The leather panel that goes down the back of the trunk is holding the lid in place. Due to the hinge not being secure the lid remains open a smidge. Should be an easy fix to use some hide glue and reattach or replace the leather hinges. I was invited, with others, to tender for the job of clearing a bungalow and adjacent outbuildings prior to their sale, I viewed the premises, submitted my offer and promptly forgot about it. As I remember, the job was a dual application where the bungalow and the buildings had to be valued and priced separately. Some very stringent specifications were imposed as to when the work could commence, vehicular and pedestrian access and a whole rainbow of minor regulations. However, my tender ticked all the right boxes for just one part of the job. This was to empty and remove the contents of the outbuildings. Frankly, I was overjoyed at this news as it was closer to the main road, had easier access and was far less labour intensive and of course as everyone ... moreknows, stuff dumped in sheds and garages is invariably'out of favour and no longer required' To verify this last statement the buildings did contain a lot of'junk' but also some very collectable and saleable goods even though some of them were seriously outmoded. Many toys and models in varying states of repair were recovered. Some were construction jobs as in Meccano, others as yet un-made, were in the form of ships and boats. Some toys were boxed and almost new. Others, as in the case of the model aircraft, had all been built many years ago and well flown. Musical instruments of various types were recovered. These, according to an executive who was present at the time, had all been used and passed down the family over the years. Suffice it to say, a lot of useful items were recovered, some as old as Adam himself and others in between! My intention was to offer them in time for Christmas but due to pressure of business it would appear that I have left it a tad late. ANTIQUE LEATHER WOOD DOME TOP TRAVEL TRUNK CHEST -BRASS STUDS & IRON HANDLES
This is an outstanding antique from 1835- dated newspaper as lining. This leather covered wood trunk or chest measures 25" by 12" by 10" high. As mentioned it is lined in very old newspaper- all dated around 1835. The overall condition is good for its age: the two iron handles are still in tact. Most of the brass studs are present, the front latch is non functional, the hinges with square nails are fine. It is a very special piece of 19th century history.
