This trunk dates back to the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This large dome top is made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome is made up of early ply. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. This one has a lot of distress marks which include areas on the wood that are darker in color, probably due to moisture in various places on this trunk. Also there are stress cracks running across the top wood that makes up the dome. There are typical nicks and dings in various places. This particular trunk was a little more weathered when we received it than most of the trunks we refinish. So we did make it as nice as we could, but do want to mention some of the characteristics. This one comes with the two factory original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each of the locks. You can lock your personal belongings away from others if you want to. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps and the handle caps have an embossed star on them. You could store a lot of belongings inside this trunk since it is pretty large. It may look nice at the foot of the bed in the bedroom or anywhere in your house where storage space is needed. If you are one who enjoys collecting rustic more primitive style antiques, then this one might be just the right one for you since it is more rustic than most trunks that we refinish. For sale is a huge 1800's immigrant steamer trunk. Best guess is German or Swiss. Has a man's name on the top, AUGUST GEUNERT. NEW YORK. I bought it in Pa. At an antique store. They said it belonged to a Doctor. In Philadelphia.They bought this and several Hepple White pieces. From his estate. It is massive. 45 inches wide,22 deep, and 25 1/2 inches tall. And weighs about 75 pounds. Has a some issues with the wood. Please see photo's. Most are the 1/4 inch trim that surrounds. The lid base. A very easy fix for a carpenter. All the straps are present and in great shape with only the hinge. Front pieces altered. The lock plate is 6 3/4 by 4 inches in great. Condition.I do not have the key. A Ladycomet Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps, Key & Tray
Fabulous Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray This beautiful trunk sure has taken on quite a transformation from the time that we have purchased it. It was very rustic and in dire need of help. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely dome top top should date back to the mid to late 1800's and it appears to be made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has a nice reddish brown color to it. There are some typical older distress marks on the wooden surfaces. These markings include older nicks and dings along with some slight ... moreareas of discoloration. The majority of the trunks that we refinish have similar distress marks. This one comes with the original working lock. We have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this nice trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. This one was missing the front latches, so we have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. Instead of having the metal latches, you can use the straps to secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled in addition to the working lock. As far as repairs go, there were two pieces of hardware missing where the outer slat boards meet. So we have replaced these with some home made pieces that look somewhat similar. There was also a section of an outer slat board missing, and we replaced it with a piece of slat board from a parts trunk. Refinished Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest Very Nice
I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. Going to the interior, I have finished the interior wood with two coats of clear lacquer. The interior is in pretty good condition considering how old this trunk is. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk has normal wear. It also has the four factory original rollers and slats. This is a one of a kind find. This gem is all 100% original. As shown in the photos This unique trunk is over 130 years old, with normal wear.The key is missing, but has the original wood tray. A Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key
Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key and Hidden Interior Compartment Area Here is a beautiful refinished dome top trunk from the late 1800's that we have just finished up on. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/2 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards, and the dome top looks like early birch ply. We have prepared and finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it nice. The wood is in decent condition considering the age of this trunk, and you can see some saw blade marks on the ... moreboards at the front of the trunk which are from the rough cut lumber which was used on this trunk back in the 1800's. This trunk maker put a nice amount of fancy hardware on this dome top. All of the metal parts which are on this trunk are not brass. We have brush painted the metal parts by hand in black and gold leaf. There are some patent dates on the fancy cap metal near the dome. It is hard to make out the exact date, although we have shown a close up picture of this patent date. We have given this trunk a lock off of a parts trunk since it was missing the lock when we purchased it. The lock we installed does work properly and comes with the appropriate key. The front latches are original on this trunk and do work ok since the springs are in good shape. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, this trunk has a nice feature which is the hidden compartment are on the underside of the dome. We have recreated the door that drops down to show this area. This dome top camel back steamer trunk circa 1800s has been beautifully restored outside. The interior remains as original. For 40 years at least this trunk has stored extra items in a guest bedroom. Beautiful Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key and Interior Tray Here is a really fancy beautiful refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely hump back chest is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are typical older distress marks on the wood which include older scratches and nicks in various places, although the chest is very sturdy and can be sat upon the top if you want to do so. This trunk maker put a lot of nice metal hardware on this trunk. The metal parts that make up this trunk ... moreare not brass, therefore we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. This trunk also comes with the original patent dated working lock. This is the first time out of well over a thousand trunks that we have had this style of lock. It is patent dated on the key hole cover which is the only brass part on this trunk that we have semi polished. It reads, Pat Mar 69& Apr 77" There is a close up picture showing these dates. We did match up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. You can lock your belongings inside this beautiful trunk away from others. The front latches are original cast iron nice ones that still work since the springs are still intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a tray or insert for this trunk. It rests at the top edge where the original one once did. The interior wood and tray have received two coats of polyurethane. We did leave the fancy paper border in place on the underside of the dome and we added two nice trunk maker's style pictures to the underside of the dome. Considering how old this trunk is, the interior is in pretty good condition.

This trunk measures approximately 28 inches high; 34 inches wide; and 21 inches deep. I believe it is late 19th or early 20th Century. It is in need of major restoration. The outside is peeling badly. The wood under it seems to be in good condition. The outside strip on the highest point of the dome is cracked. The lid hinges move freely. One leather carry strip is broken. The other is still in tact. The lock is missing. The outside bottom is metal. Three of the four casters are in tact. The fourth is missing. This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather ... morehandles on either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. This mid-nineteenth century piece was restored by hand roughly thirty years ago with original inside artwork intact and wooden tray insert. It is in incredibly good condition and would look fantastic at the foot of a bed or as a hall piece- especially in a home with a country. Western or victorian feel. Terryville Conn, USA" The two latches located towards the sides of the front work well. Once engaged. They are secured and released by a small lever on the side of the latch. They are marked"Pat Jul 972" The handles are metal and do not appear to be original. But they look very consistent with the trunk and are solidly mounted. All four wheels on bottom are present and still work. There isn't a lift out drawer or hinge stop. The trunk measures approximately 33" long x 18" wide x 24" tall. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest, Straps&Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Lock & Key
Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key and original tray. This is a very nice. Clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied polyurethane by Minwax. On this trunk are two new Amish black leather handles and two original latches to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. We also attached a new lock with a working key. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age ... morethere are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Remarkably with this trunk there is the original tray in very nice condition. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied polyurethane to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The bottom also has the original casters in working condition to ease with moving the trunk. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. It could also be used as a blanket chest. Primitive ANTIQUE MINIATURE DOLL STEAMER TRUNK Victorian Dome Top 1880's
This is a cute antique. 1800s, miniature dome top streamer trunk. It was an antique doll trunk. It is wood covered in paper with black leather around the edge. The handles are also leather however one is missing. It shoulkd be easy to replace as the are just held on with small nails. It has small hinges on the back and an old latch on the front(which does close) It has a pretty picture on the inside of the lid showing two young children in Victorian dress. It has the original tray however someone has replaced the bottom of the tray. The wood is not very attractive and if I was keeping I would replace with a thin plywood if I didn't have an old piece of wood that would work. It measures 10 3/8" long, 5 3/4" wide and 5 1/4" tall. This beautiful medium sized Dome Top antique trunk. Is in Good condition, with only minor flaws. It measures 18"H x 26 1/2" L x 14" W. The exterior is stunning. Covered beautifully in a black colored tin. With oak slats, accented with black tin hardware, and a nice brass design, that is very desirable amongst collectors. Both side leather straps are in original condition. All of the hardware is original and no longer fasten. There is no key. The inside is beautiful original wood. With steel nail heads showing(see photo) The tray is in nice condition although the lids need to be reattached. See pictures. There are rollers under this beauty, that work well, and look great. Completely refinished antique dome top trunk. I installed new double ply stitched leather handles. very strong) made by local amish here in central PA. The exterior was cleaned, brushed& sealed for protection as well as conservation, I leave the cracks& dents to preserve the character that the trunk has ocumulated over the many years. New high end fabric for the interior was put on after stripping, cleaning, brushing, drying and sealing the interior. some say fabric was not used for the interior originally, but I have seen it on occasions and always in much better shape then wall paper, so for personal preference and long lasting I choose fabric for most of my projects. Antique Victorian Child's Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Metal Hardwood Trim
A pretty antique Victorian style hump back steamer trunk that's in good sound condition. We believe it was used by a child based on the size( 24" long X 15" wide X 17" high at the center) It has curved hardwood slats across the top and hardwood slats across the front, sides and back, there are lots of brass tacks holding the wood in place and the wood has a rich warm patina. The body of the trunk is covered with embossed tin and plain black metal. The leather handles are missing but these are inexpensive and can be purchased any of the trunk restoration sites on-line as well as right here on EBAY. It has two clasps on the front to hold it closed and there's a lock but no key, we are not certain that the lock works so it will arrive open. The inside is nice and dry and there are the remnants of the old paper that it was lined with here and there. Most folks like to sand down the interior and apply a sealant which eliminates any lingering musty odors, another option is to line it with cedar. The bottom of the trunk is metal covered with three wood runners that have done a fantastic job of protecting the bottom. Near each corner on the bottom is a small metal wheel that makes the trunk easier to move around on any hard flat surface. These antique trunks are not often found in such nice condition, there is very little surface rust and and absolutely no rust through on the metal. A great place to store extra blankets, seasonal clothing, toys, hats& mittens, a display piece for an antique doll collection or antique toys. I once sold a trunk to a grandmother who purchased it to send her grandson off to college!

Gorgeous Victorian era antique dome-top steamer trunk. The metal sides and top of this chest are embossed with an intricate floral design that has been painted a wonderful gold color. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with braces at the corners and where it meets the oak braces. Two heavy leather handles on either side are worn and broken. Giving the piece an authentic aged fee. The metal lock and fasteners are impressed with decorative designs with an arts& crafts flair. It is called a Saratoga trunk which became popular with the wealthier class for those traveling to spas and to the Saratoga Springs in New York during the Victorian Era. It was a large domed top s tylewith fancy trim. Covered in either leather or metal. Early trunk ads and catalogs describe the Saratoga as"large round trunk of the highest class. It is believed that dome tops where made for those who wanted to have their trunks packed on the top of the baggage so as to avoid damage at the bottom of the heap. ORIGINALLY COVERED IN LEATHER.WHICH HAD TO BE REMOVED,LEAVING THIS BEAUTIFUL PATINA AGED PINE WITH OAK SLATS FINISHED IN A FURNITURE GRADE FINISH. THE SCALLOPED METAL TRIM IS FINISHED IN SATIN BLACK. HARDWARE IS DATED JULY 25 1865 AND THE SOLID BRASS STAR LOCK IS PATENTED MARCH 1869 WITH WORKING KEY. INTERIOR AS BEEN REMOVED AND CLEANED BEFORE REPLACING WITH CLOTH AND MATCHING ORIGINAL TRIM. Very unique opportunity for the collector! This trunk has a lot of history and was owned by the wife of Dr. E.S. Joynes. Originally from Virginia moved to my hometown Columbia South Carolina. Dr. Edward S. Joynes was a well-known Professor at the University of South Carolina. Please google his name for his records. Or i can send you more information. He married Miss Ellan Walker Vest in Virginia in 1859 the trunk was ordered for her. Mrs. E.S.J. was printed on the trunk travelled all over the US and to Europe. The Trunk is lined with what looks like. Linen on the inside brass hardware and on the outside it looks like Leather. It’s on caster wheels that work. It has not been restored and as the photos show has held up very well. It has several stickers still attached that date to 1894.
