But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I purchased it from a lady who stated it was in the stable area of her very old, victorian home. The home was built in the early 1900's. INSIDE: I believe it is constructed of Pine with a floral paper design. Which means this trunk belonged to a Woman. OUTSIDE: Has a dark metal/tin tone. 4) wooden, Elm? vertical slats on the dome top, 2) horizontal wooden slats on the front& ... moreback, 1) wooden slat on each side. There is a 16" wide(wooden slats divide the leather area) Leather type Alligator design area on the top that extends down the front and back and along both sides. The metal work is very nice and when this trunk was new, must have been gorgeous. There are(8) metal shield type designs holding down the top wood slats. On the top side ends, there are large metal Crown like designs. There are(2) brown leather handles. 1 handle is torn but repairable. This trunk was definitely for a woman of importance. Red Vinyl Chest/Trunk/Hassock/Bench w/ White Buttons & Black Tacks. MCM 1950s.
Travel back in time with this vintage red vinyl chest/trunk/ottoman. Measuring about 28" by 14-1/4" by 17" tall. It is made of wood and upholstered in red vinyl with white buttons& trim, then accented with black tacks. It is quite sturdy and can be used as a bench too. It is in quite good condition, but does have some cosmetic blemishes. The front right corner of the the vinyl has a 1/2" tear that isn't particularly noticeable(see photo) There is are a couple of tiny, like 1/16" holes, that also aren't really noticeable. There is a faint dusting of what-seems-to-be blue paint on the top. Again, it's barely noticeable. The inside and bottom are surfaced with a faux wood cardboard that is stapled on. The bottom/underside faux wood cardboard facing is quite worn. The four felted feet are not original. ... moreThe original feet were chrome buttons. I have three of the original four chrome button feet(they're about 1/2" wide) and will include them if you want them. I would reasonably guess it to be circa 1960. Very cool leather chest. It is very thick and high quality leather. The whole thing is VERY solid and heavy. It says Bond St. London on it. The locks are decorative. They clip open and closed. But there is actually no locking mechanism on the chest. I tried to find more about this particular chest online, but could not find anything. It seems to be pretty rare. You can see the craftsmanship is exceptional. The leather is solid. It has a great aged look to it, although I doubt it is more than ten or fifteen years because it has safety air holes in the back. Wow! Cabin/ beach/ cottage/ loft/ apartment: Coffee table possibility! From the internet: In 1850. Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale" came to America and had a two year concert tour. She had trunks which were made in London which were soon copied by trunk makers all over America, which we now refer to as Jenny Lind trunks. They were usually leather covered, with several iron or Brass bands around the trunk, fastened with large brass studs, and they curved in at the center.They are often called Bread loaf trunks. These trunks were often very decorative with brass locks, fancy tooled leather and elaborate interiors with paper lining and trimmings. Models made with brass banding are referred to as"brass bound" Jenny Linds. They were so popular that the style continued until the 1870s in many sizes and varieties, including doll ... moretrunks. Some also refer to these trunks as"stagecoach" trunks as they were also used for stagecoach travel. This is very unusual trunk looks like it was made in the 1800s. It was discovered in the attic of an 1836. NY farmhouse. We have no patents or dates to verify its actual age; however. Given the materials, the condition, and the style we are quite certain of this statement. It could be older. If you are an expert on trunks, and recognize this particular style, please let us know. He will be happy to incorporate any additional information in our listing. The stagecoach trunk has brass decorations on metal straps. It has some leather straps still remaining. One leather side handle is still present. We believe the original leather hinges were replaced at some time with the metal ones you see. Based on our examination of the area and discoloration around the hinges. One of the four is only half there. We do not have the key for the lock. A large wardrobe trunk made by Henry Likly of Rochester. N.Y. established 1844. Extremely solid. And equipped with casters and great oak slats. It is signed with a brass plaque outside and a paper label inside. It is ink stamped Patented December 12. 1911. This is complete. Fully functional, and in excellent vintage condition. It comes with the original key. This rare American trunk was beautifully made in the same style of the famous expensive ones. Antique Hand Painted German Pennsylvania Dutch Chest Trunk Dowry Wedding Blanket
Beautiful Antique German Pennsylvania Hand Painted Trunk Chest For sale is a beautiful antique hand painted chest or trunk. It is decorated on 4 sides with flowers. The painting appears to be on top of a gesso or tempera of sorts. The flower painting is very nice and in pretty good shape on the sides but worn on the top. The escutcheon is very unique. The trunk measures roughly 46.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches deep by 23.5 inches high. It shows a good deal of age because it is very old. I am not certain but would estimate late 18th to early 19th century. It is possible that it is older since the joints and hardware are similar to chests claiming to be early to mid 1700s. The hardware and lock are iron and the locking mechanism is very primitive in design. I do not have a key. The iron hinges could use a little straightening. There are square ... moreand round nails holding it together. Some of the nails for the hinges have been replaced with screws. The paint is cracked and peeling and missing and dirty. The interior of the trunk shows mostly red. The lid has a label and a picture of cupids. The label in in German but I don't think it has anything to do with the origin or maker of the trunk. There is a small lidded storage compartment on the left side. The ball feet appear to be correct. One toward the back shows deterioration. There are some random areas that show past termite activity or worm holes. I am not sure. The boards are solid. Though. This trunk was just removed from a Los Angeles storage unit and needs a very thorough cleaning. I am not an expert on such pieces and welcome any details people might be able to add. Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk/Chest (Rare - All Leather) 1800-1899
Fresh to the market this all Leather Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk dated around the late 1900's.Serial Number- 765177) has been hidden away in an over grown shed in North Wales. The Trunk was custom made for an H. E. Gowar which is on both side panels. These custom made all leather trunks were much more expensive to purchase than the printed canvas patterns making this a rare find. The truck shows sign's of it's age(120+ years) the leather is cracked and worn in places. The trunk has it's own patina but it is in good condition, sturdy, with no holes in the leather which I feel was once black this could be brought back to it's original colour with a leather stain and waxed, all metal work is also in good condition with all four original LV rolling coasters, the Louis Vuitton logo can be found on the two clasps. On the inside ... moreof the trunk you will find the Louis Vuitton Label. With the inside and basket showing signs of wear and water damage again due to age, the logo can also be seen printed like an water mark on the removable basket material. The trunk measures 30" x 23" x 20" making it an ideal size. We have not overly cleaned up the trunk and it's brass work, other than a little oil and wax for protection, leaving this to the purchaser's chose, to leave as is or have professionally restored either way this is a unusual Louis Vuitton item. Ladycomet Refinished Flat Top Angle Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key&Tray
Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Wall Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area. And Interior Tray Here is a very unusual fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. It is unusual in which the top and back and front slat boards are angled at about 45 degrees. We have only had about four of these over the past thirteen years to refinish and that would be out of around 1500 trunks. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. There are some ... moretypical older distress marks on the wood. These character marks include older nicks and dings. Mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards, and there are a couple of stress cracks. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have these type of markings. This great trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. This trunk maker used a very nice amount of nice hardware on this trunk. A lot of it has embossed patterns to the metal. The front latches are original and they have a big number"3" at the top of them which we have highlighted in black paint. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. The trunk maker also did a good job of running vertical and horizontal outer slat boards on this trunk, especially on the sides. It is not very often that you have two vertical slat boards and a horizontal slat board running on the sides of the trunk. Anyhow, it gives it a nice, unique appearance. The side handles have been replaced with sturdy Amish made black leather stitched straps.

I acquired this flat top antique trunk at an auction. I have not tried to clean it as I do not want to ruin the integrity of the trunk. It is made of wood and covered with canvas with metal straps. The left leather handle is broken and the right one is intact. However they are extremely fragile so I would suggest that they not be used to pick up the trunk. There are pieces on the front with the buckle. There is a small hole in the top of the trunk. Please look closely at the pictures as they are part of the description. Measuring approx 36ins(94cms) x 17ins(43cms) deep x 18ins(46cms) it is a traditional steamer type trunk having protective studded bands on the edges, with metal corner protectors, twin locks at the front with a central clasp. There is a leather carrying handle at either end. It is finished in a blue/black colour with an attractive patina to it. The catches work well but are a little stiff and there is no key for the locks. I nternally it has the original lchequered lining material. It is in good general condition but has a few signs of use as one might imagine. With scuffs, nicks, scratches and so on and there is a tear to the top and another smaller ... moreone, but nothing detracting and all very characterful! Tons of watchers bid now don't miss out! This Huge Vintage truck measures 40"x23"x 25" and has a dark military green finish. The base is made from metal and the sides are wood wrapped in leather. I have seen these used as storage trunks as well as coffee tables in the past. It could also double as a Cedar chest or window seat. The outside has that natural distressed look that is sought after these days. The hinges and latches all work and the key and lock mechanism has been removed previously. This was obviously made by someone to carry their tools. This antique carpenters tool box has a lid with a lock hasp. The lid was likely used to store saws. There are posts with rotating parts to hold something in place, and a long divided drawer is freed up inside when the lid is open. The drawer has two areas measuring 13.5" L x 2 1/8" W x 3 1/8" D. The chest is 6" T x 30"L x 18"D. Note that there is no longer a handle where there once was and slight damage to one of the corners.
