This box ... morehas outer strap hinges that were riveted on with brass. A set of strap hinges were added down the middle for added strength, these were fastened with antique wood screws. The bottom part of the padlock latch is attached to a modified strap hinge. The paint is chipped and chipping. There is an oil stain around the hinge of the padlock latch, someone penciled a circle on the lid*under* the handle- so the circle, apparently, is from before the handle was added.and that handle has been attached for a long time! Inside there is a tray with a hole cut out of it to accommodate some unknown tool of yester-year. The tray must have been made from an old crate as the word"GLASS" can still be seen stenciled on one board. On the outside. Below the lid, there is a thin notch, one can only wonder what function that notch was cut for. The often missing handles on the side are firmly attached with antique wood screws. Measures: 31. 15/16 inches wide- 9, 3/8 inches deep and 10, 1/2 inches tall. This box is sturdy with no loose screws. Inside the shelf is dirty, there are water stains on the bottom and inside. Please see and enlarge the photos for a good look. I will combine shipping whenever possible. I can ship this or you may pick this up at the Quakertown Farmers Market- Friday or Saturday morning. An 1800s elm blanket box/ chest. Wonderfull colour/ patina and elm grain detail. Hand forged iron lid hinges. Recently wax polished so all ready for the home. Fully treated throughout and guaranteed for woodworm as the chest had suffered in the past as seen in the pictures, some areas around the top edges to the interior are filled, its very common for elm to be attacked by worm. Vtg Hand Painted Wooden Chinese Chest Trunk Box -
We found this lovely piece at an estate auction years ago but never had the right place for it so it's time to let it find a better home. We have no information on age; it was crafted in China. Some information with artist mark is on felt-lined bottom. The hinged wooden chest measures 18" X 10" X 8-1/2" high The painted background is a distressed antique gold; floral crests around all sides are painted in browns. Green, touches of red, accented with metallic gold. A nicely cast bronze lion head with ring forms the handle. The exterior of the box appears to be covered/wrapped with what has the appearance and feel of leather but we're not certain of that. May be faux- rubbed corners, etc. reveal a white substance under the painting. The sides show stitching and nail heads where the wrap has been folded over. In addition ... moreit looks like there is an antique wash and clear coating on the entire piece. The surface has crack lines(similar to porcelain crazing) which in our opinion adds to the feel of an old chest. The interior is lined in what we think is paper designed to look like green fabric with phoenix designs. CONDITION: previously owned. Age unknown. Interior is pristine, some rubbing on exterior corners and a nick on the front near the bottom

Antique Chest Trunk Wedding Norwegian/Norway ROSEMALED/ROSEMALING Kiste
This chest is a beautiful hand painted piece. I had an expert in early American antiques look at the piece. He said it most likely was built in the late 1700's. It has hand forged steel nails. Hinges and original lock. The wood is hand dovetailed as they are all slightly different in size. It's most likely European with that painting and as it has it has the tiny holes in the wood only found on European wood. He believed the chest was then painted and given as a wedding gift in 1880. The overall condition is good. Still very solid. One board on the bottom and one on the back have been replaced at some point. The wood has age cracks as you would expect from a piece of this age. This is a beautiful primitive immigrant's trunk. This is a very large trunk measuring 55"Wx32"Hx24"Deep with a curved top. It has dark green painted planks with hand stenciled flowers. Also stenciled on the front is the initials"BLD" and the date"1849" The trunk has hand forged metal straps. Handles and an original keyhole with the old fashioned metal key. The key and latch still works. Construction includes wooden pegs and dove tailed joints. The inside of the trunk is the original whitewashed wood with built in box storage area. An old original fab steamer chest with lots of metal banding and end cap brackets. It is a original steamer chest from circa 1900's and would have been used on the ships of old Metal handles at each side. Front locks and clasps there is no longer any key for the middle lock long gone. Four hardwood slats on top with one at the front and back also. It is approx. half the height of the standard ones. So would be great for any room in the house to make a great look and not take up to much space. The chest has a nice shiny bri wax finish. It has been around for a hundred years and will come with wear and tear as you would expect which all adds character to these items, But is still a strong fab little chest. The metal shows quite a bit of rust but latches seem to work fine. There are minor dings and scratches but is in good shape for the age. The trunk bears the maker's mark(badge) on top over the lock: Henry Likly& Co. Makers. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This is an older restoration and all the original hardware and materials are still there. The refinish is not perfect and still maintains much of the same appearance it did as when Henry Likly first delivered the trunk. It has been in a home that used it everyday and never left in storage not being used. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Refinished and stained. The ... morelock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is intact with a few rips or scuffs. The fabric has been sealed to stay bonded to the wood. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has been recoated and looks great with the pings and dings from being around a 100 plus years. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is intact and in decent condition. The interior has zero smell and not mildewed. There are original stickers on it from the cruise lines to Europe around ww1, railroad transport, etc. It has a flip up top for easy access to hangers with slide out extensions. There has been no woodworm at all. Useful inner tray and new strong. Cotton rope handles. The paint is a chalk finish and at the moment is unwaxed. I can either leave it like this or give it a coat of fine wax- whatever the buyer prefers. The wooden interior has been left natural with no stain or wax. The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Some of these were made with secret compartments. But I havent had the time to look. The Handles the lock& the hinges are bold gothicstyle hand forged iron It is still useable but I have miss placed the pins for the lid. All the wood is in good condiion on all 4 sides and lid. But the bottom shows signs of wood worms, but is not flaking apart at this time. Still is a beautiful ... morepiece that can be used to store your family goodies or quilts at the end of the bed. The sides and top are of single board construction with applied trim boards and it is of square nailed construction. The lid was attached with make-do iron hinges. It has an old steel lock but no key and a padlock type latch was added at a later date. It has iron handles at the ends. There are no marks identifying the maker. It measures approximately 35” wide. 20” deep and stands 19-1/4” high. It originally had three 1-1/2” wide strips applied to the bottom as feet to keep the bottom board from rotting but one of the strips is missing. Other than that its is complete. I'm not sure of the actual age of this trunk but I do know it is very old. The lock does not work and the leather handles on the ends are gone due to age. The inside removable box is still in good shape. 1 or 2 of the snaps might be missing.

Genuine Antique Flat Top Steamer / Travel Trunk 2 Trays Storage Chest
Free local pick-up only. From a local M id S outh E state. this Antique Flat Top Steamer/ Travel TRUNK made between 1880 and 1920. After 1920. As trunks became mass-produced they were labeled with the"makers mark" Measures 36" length x 24 1/2" height x 21" width. This is a solid piece; all metal strapping, corner bindings& hardware is intact. The wood parts of the trunks structure are time worn but intact as well. The YALE lock is intact but there is no key. The two leather side carry straps have long since torn away- easy to replace with an old leather belt. Seldom found are the 2 interior trays that appear to be original to this piece. The top tray(photos#8& 9) has finger-hole lifts at each end; measures 33 1/2 length x 18" width x 4" depth. The tray flap-over lid is secured via 3 hinges on one ... moreside. The other would have been secured via the leather snap straps but again the leather has deteriorated away. The 2nd tray(photo#10) has what appears to be some sort of textile handle-straps to lift it out with; measures 35" length x 13 3/4" width x 7 1/2" deep. The interior of the trunk measures 19 1/2" overall depth. Understand that this truck is close to 100 years old and therefore smells old as well. Both the interior and the exterior of this trunk are genuinely time worn. A beautiful old aged piece as is or restore and make it your own. The last 4 pictures are the bad parts of this. The back side plate of the lock is missing, the inside thin paper type paneling is coming off, the bottom has some(not much) rust. Antique turn of the century Steamer Trunk. It is a heavy duty flat top with ornate trim. The condition is excellent except for normal wear. There is a leather strap missing on the front. While there are stray marks. Scratches, etc. it has come through the years in surprisingly good shape. Lined with paper. This chest is very heavy. And large. It is missing the pin that slides through the clasp. The handles. Clasp and hinges have a warm patina and all are tight. The hinges are pinned and the seams are all dove tailed. It was made in Holland around 1900. It is different from most coffers in that the top does not open. Instead it has two small drawers and two cabinet doors that open on the front to give access to the storage space within. This is very unique and interesting! The hand carvings that adorn the entire front of the coffer are intricate and lovely. The four main panels appear ... moreto be birds and all the surroundings are carvings of flora. A nice smooth bottom moulding. Simple top, and traditional Dutch bun feet help to balance this carving. The smoother accents keep the coffer from looking gaudy. As previously mentioned the storage of this coffer is divided up amount two small drawers and a cabinet section. The two drawers and cabinet doors all lock. The inside is all lined with a green paper that could be removed. The cabinet section contains one shelf which will help keep whatever you store inside organized. Antique Curved Alligator Like Hammered Tin Top Saratoga Trunk Offering you beautiful curved Dome top trunk. This trunk once was quite an expensive beauty. The curved top. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I purchased it from a lady who stated it was in the stable area of her very old, victorian home. The home was built in the early 1900's. INSIDE: I believe it is constructed of Pine with a floral paper design. Which means this trunk belonged to a Woman. OUTSIDE: Has a dark metal/tin tone. 4) wooden, Elm? vertical slats on the dome top, 2) horizontal wooden slats ... moreon the front& back, 1) wooden slat on each side. There is a 16" wide Alligator Leather look design area on the top that extends down the front and back and along both sides that is divided by leather slats. I was told this design area is an ornate hammered tin. The metal work is very nice and when this trunk was new, must have been gorgeous. There are(8) metal shield type designs holding down the top wood slats. On the top side ends, there are large metal Crown like designs. There are(2) brown leather handles. 1 handle is torn but repairable. This trunk was definitely for a woman of importance. Approximate Dimensions: 22" High@ the highest-middle 32.5" Wide 17.5" Deep Condition: This trunk is in good antique condition. There is normal wear. Which is expected, due to it's age. The bottom inside does have a few minor cracking in the wood. There is not a lock on the trunk. All the nails& design hardware are there, as far as I can see.
