Refinished Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest Very Nice
I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. Going to the interior, I have finished the interior wood with two coats of clear lacquer. The interior is in pretty good condition considering how old this trunk is. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk has normal wear. It also has the four factory original rollers and slats. I gave the bottom a couple coats of lacquer as well to make the trunk overall cleaner. If you have any questions about the trunk, just ask me. Thanks for looking. What I am sure of is the craftsmanship, which is the epitome of art. The tiny pieces are mitered as are all corners. The dark brown wood trim is finely mitred and fits perfectly. Then the is a inner lining that extends above the ledge. That is not only mitred but is on a 45 degree angle. Where the hinges are attached in the lid. The dark brown wood is neatly cut out on the top and also the bottom, making a perfect piece. The four feet are carved and each"toe" is detailed. If that isn't ivory it could be bone as it isn't as shiny as the trim. Here is a very nice Antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Its the highest end model with all brass hardware and leather trim and a zinc bottom. Interior is clean with 2 trays. This is the very early hand woven linen monogram canvas which was produced from 1896-1904. The serial number 106906 should put it around 1899. In my opinion this trunk is in great shape for a 115 year old piece that has traveled the world(with the travel stickers to prove it! Please see detailed pics and ask questions. The box has recently been stripped and polished with 3 coats of wax giving a warm honey patination. Commensurate with it's age. Measuring 24ins( 61 cms) high x 24ins(61cms) wide x 18ins(4 6 cms) deep. It is a traditionally constructed'sailor's' chest with a pine body, having part iron banding and corner protectors with brass studded wooden batons. There is an old iron handle at both ends and a central clasp and lock. Internally it is still lined with the original paper lining and has a removable half height divider in the middle. This chap has been around since before the Boer War and! Originally it was canvas covered. THIS AUCTION IS FOR PREVIOUSLY OWNED and USED Antique Carpenters Tool Chest Wood Tool Box First of all. I would like to say this box is NOT in perfect condition. Please read the descrition. I obtained this old box at an estate sale in Massachusetts It measures with the top closed appx. 37 5/8” across 23 5/8” deep and 23 ¼” tall with the top closed. It weighs appx. 135 pounds There are some cracks in the wood around the trim on the top of the box and other places. No major damage to the bottom of the box. The top middle portion of the lid has some issues. The wood has separated from the tops outside trim. It doesn't completely come apart; it still has a couple nails holding it together. The wood from the center seems kind of soft and from wear. Moisture or something. That part of the trunk appears to be a different type of wood, a ... moresofter wood from the rest of the trunk. You can see from the inside of the lid. There is also some damage and missing or broken trim. It is pretty loose from the top also. A few nails are holding it. The insert draws also have issues and have broken and cracked wood. In some places wood is actually missing. This is how I obtained it. The trunk has paint. Wear, scrapes and scratches. It even shows signs of moisture stains and is a little dusty and dirty. There are a couple old screws missing from the brass corners. The person I obtained this trunk from told me that it had belonged to his Great Grand Father that lived in Dana Massachusetts and was a woodworker back when Dana was a town. The box was just passed down. The box was stored in his basement and he needed to get it out to make room. It was filled with tools at the time but I took them out of the box. The tools are not included in this action. There are a couple things that do give up this trunks age. The lock(There is no key to the lock) is stamped“ L Yale Jr’s Patent Jan. 29. 1861 Jun. 27 1866“ Also. You can see on the side of the box there is a paper Railroad baggage ticket pasted to the side. Antique Camphor Captains Sea Chest Chinese Camphor Trunk
This beautiful antique camphor sea chest belonged to my grandmother. It has been in my family for a very long time and is being sold due to lack of appreciation unfortunately. According to my grandmother it was owned by captain Bearse. One of the many, but more well know, sea captains from Chatham, MA. There is no way to prove this but it is period appropriate and antique appraisers agree it is an early chinese style camphor sea chest. The smell of camphor when you open the chest is incredible. There is one brass fitting missing on the bottom right, and a repair was done by my grandfather(a woodworker) in the 1940's to repair a seperating split in the left upper corner of the lid. RARE 19th Century Miniature Old Painted Decorated Banded Trunk Chest Box Carved Mother of Pearl Bird Scent Perfume Fitted Caddy with 2 Ruby Gold Bottles Ornate. Chest measures 5.5" W x 4" H x 3" D and is in excellent undamaged condition as pictures show. Old green painted trunk with burl wood copper looking bands decorated with metal beads and larger glass or MOP topped tacks/buttons. Carved Mother of Pearl Bird cartouche on top and original lock without key. Handpainted Ruby glass bottles with stopper measure 3" with fitted interior silk and felt lined.
