Rustic African Grain Trough Old primitive African carved hard wood trough. Hand carved from a one piece tree trunk log with hooped carry handles at each end. This piece is wire bound along it's edges and at the handles to prevent usage splits. Wonderful one off African piece with a lovely tackle patina and aged wood knots and wood grain shrinkage. This trough I believe was meant for general use by who ever made it and is not the usual tourist piece. It is a very old rustic piece. But I'm not quite sure of it's age. Pre 1930's hand carved wood trunk. The wood looks like cedar. But some of the research I've done the same Maker has used champhor wood. The lots of and hinges are original and are brass. the hinges are a little bit shaky and me need some attention. the trunk lid does open and close smoothly. There are several aged splits in the wood, nothing serious. Also one of the four feet is a little loose, it can be fix really easily, but I didn't want to mess with it. The overall condition for its age is good. 37" wide x 18" deep x 19" tall. The wood is all hand carved. The top is rounded. The carvings show people in a village, sailboats, nautical Chinese. Excellent Old Chinese Carved Bowl with Elephant with Raised Trunk, Estate, Age?
This is a wonderful piece of Chinese carving that I found at the estate sale of a fellow who was a world traveler and collected Asian items. It is a bowl with an elephant who has a raised trunk. The stone has nice color variation. The size is about 2" tall and 5" across. Someone has scratched China into the bottom. It is really a terrific piece. Bid with confidence. This gorgeous chest weighs about 60 pounds with the internal shelf and is approximately 19.5" front to back. Approximately 48" wide/left to right and approximately 19" high/tall. This chest has the original finish. The detail that went into crafting this chest is astonishing. This chest is in pristine antique condition with very few natural character marks normally expected with antique wood. I particularly like the decorative carving in the center of the front and the beautiful grain on the top which is fairly uniform and straight for a natural walnut. Offered here is a small old jade carving of an elephant. It fits in a closed hand just perfect. Which makes me think it was a talisman of some sort. It measures approximately; 3 1/2” long by 2” tall. The carving is in good condition but does show age. There are light scratches on the surface and one chip on the edge of one of the feet. Philippines Deep Carved Wood Drum Tree Trunk Animal Fur Hair Head Lizard Design
Beautifully carved wooden drum with animal skin head. Looks to have never been used. But it is far from"new" meaning it's old) The detailed lizard design goes all around the upper part. Look- it's tasting the animal hair with its forked tongue! The lower part has what looks(to me) like waves and the tide. So the story might be: The lizard was washed off its homeland and rode the tide across the great water. When it washed onto a new land it climbed the first tree to see where it was. But stopped when it heard a mysterious drumming sound. The lizard, unfamiliar with its new surroundings, kept going around and around the tree, trying to find safety in its new home. My research says this might be from the Philippine Islands. Where I found similar carvings/designs. Who ever made it. They did a wonderful job. The carving is really ... moredeep in the hollowed out tree trunk. The animal skin head is nailed on(see inside) With another strip of skin covering the nail heads on the outside. Looks like they cut the strip too short and added a different color, or is it supposed to be that way. The strap is also a 35" piece of twisted hide. Attached at top and bottom. Little Carved Wooden Elephant Raised Trunk Vintage Unknown
This is a cute lil wooden elephant. I do not know much about it except that it is carved. It has a tiny hole drilled through the trunk. One of the tusks is chipped. Both tusks are stained reddish in color. Perhaps this happened when they stained the wood or someone thought he would look cooler if he had been in a fight. But I can say that whenever it was made it looks to me totally authentic. It looks to me like what must be the original form of the Conga Drum. I imagine this is what the Conga was before it got mass-produced with glued-up lathe-turned staves and chrome-plated hardware. This drum is hand-carved from a single log. The carving leaves the beautiful unfinished facets on the surface. Which is also decorated with incised lines and subtly painted colorful geometric patterns around the lower part. The inside looks chiseled out with an adze or other hand tools and is left rough. The drum skin is a piece of hide stretched across and pegged to the rim. ... moreTightened with very striking twists. An estate sale find. The chest measures approximately 35-1/2" long by approximately 17-1/2" wide by approximately 18" high. There is some nicks and scuffs here and there. On the top(lid) There is a small piece missing(check pick 10) And there is a few areas where you can see the nail heads. Check picture 11. And on the side(left as you're facing it) there is what looks like a gouge mark. I only took pictures of the areas of the biggest concern. As I said, there are areas here and there all over the trunk or chest that are just nicks, and scuffs, and a little loss of the finish in very small areas. They are not as bad as the areas of concern in the pictures. It has been well used, but it is in very good condition, considering the age. On the bottom there is a small piece of wood missing about 9" long by at its widest ... morepoint 1/4"check pick 6 and 8) As you can see by pick 5 the label on the inside of the lid, tells you about the maker. Antique Decorative Small Trunk Cabinet I originally found this beautiful piece in Charleston. SC, but was told by the owner that it came from Boston. As you can see in the pictures it has extensive carved decoration on the bottom apron, the top pediment and the front three panels with small tulip shaped flowers. On the top is some really nice early inlaid work with strips of lighter wood in rectangular shapes inside the darker wood. Top opens like a trunk and is in good condition inside. We are pleased to offer this very unusual. Old Chinese(late 19th century to early 20th century) hand carved, MASSIVE lidded box or storage/rice bin or chest. This two piece, painted and lacquered box is carved and formed into a beautiful elephant. The elephant has a large trunk with nice details to the face, mouth and ears and eyes. The elephant is cut in half length wise. The top lifts off to reveal a box or storage bin. The bin is finished in an old lacquer. The elephant is colorful. He is painted a golden tan with hints of red and brown underneath. The ears and tongue are red. The inside storage compartments are black lacquer as is the underneath. There are two large nostril holes that once housed ivory tusks which are no longer present. This box is quite unique and most of it was carved from a large, single piece of wood. Carved Black Wooden Elephant Trunk Up
Vintage carved black wooden elephant figurine on a wooden base. Lovely detail; from my grandfather's collection so likely between 15-20 years old or older. Figurine does appear to have some chips in it but they blend in with the figurine and are not very noticeable(see picture) Trunk up for luck! Wooden base is 3 x 1.5 inches. Elephant itself is about 4.5 inches tall and 2 inches long. If viewed from behind, he does lean slightly to the left. Has holes where the tusks should be but they have either been lost or were never there to begin with.

Antique Faux Ivory or Bone Hand Carved Elephant on wood base~Trunk is up!
Lovely Antique Elephant on a wooden stand~ Art from the Past. Absolutely beautiful heirloom that was passed down to me from my Grand Mother. I was told by my Mother that this is not Faux Ivory. But an ANTIQUE and was hand carved. I have not had anyone look at it so I really do not know if it is bone or another material. The wooden stand that it is on also looks hand carved and is very interesting. The Elephant Statue measures a little over 2" high and is about 2& 1/2" wide.
