Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish Description: Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Offered is a great antique wood dome top trunk. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. Antique Salesman Child Doll Sized Steamer Trunk, Corbin Lock, Very Well Made
This is a salesman's sample. Child's or doll sized steamer trunk. I believe the Corbin lock was made between 1890-1905, so I suspect the trunk is about that age as well. The trunk and hardware are the same quality as a full-sized steamer trunk. Consequently, it is strong and sturdy for its size. The trunk is 20.25"W, 12.75"H, and 11"D. This is a really neat heavy cast metal lock/latch which I believe came off a very old steamer trunk of sorts. It's in good used vintage condition with some surface wear and tarnish and I believe a tiny crack by the bottom bolt that you can't see from the front and doesn't seem to affect its use whatsoever.please view pictures for any further description/condition. A Ladycomet Double Lock Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest,Key,Tray
Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for you or someone that you cherish. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. The all hand made lock looks to be made in a very old style that I am not familiar with. Definitely pre-industrial revolution. The interior is clean except for some dust. Hinges are a bit loose. I will tighten them up. Possible harden the wood receiving the hinge screws. The trunk has no obvious markings. I don't about the paint it is in good overall condition probably less than half the age of the trunk( my guess! really REALLY cute size and nice piece. A Wonderful Antique Stage Coach Trunk. The trunk is hand made of wood looks to be in original condition. Some small pieces or parts may be missing, it has wheels on the bottom part of one is missing, still for a trunk of this age it is very nice. The straps buttons are brass. The Shield Lock and Key look original, most of the straps are still with the trunk. Please check Photos for details. The trunk has been stored away for many years. Looks to be in very good condition. Georg Schalk Antique Steamer Trunk Oak Banded Double Lock German Reiseartikel
This is a great piece. It is a German antique steamer trunk I believe to be from about 1890-1910. This is a rare style of trunk. Double locked and oak banded(made with half round oak banding instead of flat wood bands) The exterior canvas is mostly intact with some nicks and tears from use. The color of the exterior varies a bit from darker to lighter brown. There are remnants of some old old labels on the outside of the trunk as well. All original locks. Hardware, etc. The interior lining is mostly there. But with some tears. The leather handles are still on, but one is broken and the other is very worn and would probably break if used. Overall it's in pretty good condition for the age. And it is awesome! Measurements: 18 inches tall. The L shaped key goes in and opens it. It's a little tricky to open but it was locked when I got it and I unlocked it with the key. There is an 8 and 6 embossed in the U shaped piece. Couple scratch marks there but possibly a number before this. Looks like lock adjusts to different heights. The lock part only measures 2" high x 1.75" Neat old look in nice antique shape. What a find! Old steamer trunk. Please examine the photos closely. The trunk is definitely showing its age. leather handles on the side are toast but they are still there. Lock bears the eagle lock co name. It is wood and tin. Lots of tin covers most of the chest and it is adorned with the pattern you see. It has lots of character! 34" x 17.25" x 18" There is rust. There is worn/missing tin etc. I did not attempt to clean etc and have not even carried it by it's handles, I hold the whole thing. The little wheels on the bottom are janky but they work and moved around easy surprisingly. Anyone who has more information on this trunk that I could add would be appreciated. Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/Lock & Keys
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk with Working Lock and 2 keys. This is a very nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we had to take off the white paint from the inside. This is a very hard thing to do. With white being painted on the wood we sanded a lot and striped the paint off. There are a few white streaks on the inside but it doesn't stand out. The original pine wood is very beautiful now that the paint is off. We then removed the leather in between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the leather we sanded all the wood and then applied polyurethane by Minwax. On this trunk are two new Amish black leather handles and two new latches to keep the lid secure. Also ... moreon the lid we applied a new trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. We also attached a new lock with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. We have also applied polyurethane to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The bottom also has the 4 original casters in excellent working condition to ease with moving your trunk. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student to store things in. The size of this trunk measures 28" length x 15 1/2" width x 15height. The two of us love refinishing trunks bringing back the beauty into a piece from the past. Antique c. 1800's Solid Mahogany Trunk Original Brass Lock Hardware Flat Corner Dowel Construction- To be honest. The corner construction of this nice old trunk is new to me. It's pulled slightly apart due to the cooler weather. So needs pulled back in by someone who knows what they're doing. The inner finish of the lid shows what the original finish must have been.also shows the craftsmanship of the lid. The brass lock and locking mechanism are original. The hinges aren't original. In fact. Look closely at the photo of the top and you can see the outline of old strap hinges. The trunk's wood is excellent. May need refinished if that's important to you.no cracks or huge chips, etc. though. The trunk measures 54 1/2" long x 22" deep x 20" tall. The wood is approximately 3/4" thick. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Lock & Keys
Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and 2 keys and original tray. This is a very nice. Clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied polyurethane by Minwax. On this trunk are two new Amish black leather handles and two original latches to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. We also attached a new lock with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. What is also so special ... moreabout this hardware is that it still has the patent date of March 1880 noticeable on the hardware. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Remarkably with this trunk there is the original tray in very nice condition. The lid of the trunk also has the original secret compartment. Finding a lid like this is very rare especially the one this trunk has because it still has the original pictures that are neatly in tact. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied polyurethane to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The bottom also has the original casters in working condition to ease with moving the trunk. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. It could also be used as a blanket chest.
