Trunk Antique Large 1880's Camelback Saratoga All Original Lock Barrel Key

This rare large(interior 36"L x 21"W x 29"D) 36"H, including lid, old(1880's) barrel stave top style Saratoga trunk with metal edge binding and trim, original working double hasp brass lock and iron latches. It has five hardwood slats across the top and two across the front, rear and both sides. Trunk body is thick pine and was probably covered in leather when new. The original working lock with spring loaded key cover and barrel key were made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia. Ornamental cast metal clamps on the slat ends as well as the cast iron latches on the front were patented by Charles Taylor in 1877& 1878. This trunk is an estate find from Hop Bottom. Pennsylvania. There aren't any maker marks on the trunk. The lock is marked Eagle Lock Company- Terryville, Conn. The trunk is in good functional condition and is an excellent candidate for a repurposing. Perhaps as a coffee table. The size of the trunk is 23 1/4 inches tall x 22 inches wide x 36 inches long. All of the hardware functions normally and appear to be brass. The tin cladding and wood accents have beautiful patinas. The interior appears to be original. The interior tray is missing. The handles on the ends are gone with time and there is no key for the lock. Please ask any questions before bidding. I will gladly take any custom pictures you may require to make your decision. LOT Antique Vintage LoCk and KEYS European Authentic Patina WORKING chest trunk
This is a lot of four locks and keys and they all work. I personally picked these lock and keys up in Poland and Germany. The keys are open barrel except the round black one is simply flat. Two are chippy painted green and turqoiuse. The brands are Stabil. Abus and Burg. Three of them are stamped with Made in Germany on the back. All the locks range in the 2 to 3 inch range.

This auction is for an amazing old trunk. It would make a great coffee table or as another accent piece in your home. It is a flat top which allows things to be sat on it. It measures approx. 23 inches tall 32 inches wide and 20 inches deep. The lock on the front reads Eagle Lock Co. Terrville CT. It has a 1892 patent date on it. The lock has been pocked off. The inside still has its tray which removes easily. There are a couple of lables for Railway Express Agency and the initials A.M.F. on the side. As you can see in the photos it shows some wear. But has that look of history from all the places it has been. I am located in the western suburbs of Chicago, I have it as pick up only. I am willing to take the trunk to a local UPS or Fedex store if you want it shipped however shipping will be at your expense. Thanks for looking.

There are a few rivets missing& one of the 4 rollers is missing. Both leather handles are also missing. The original paper lining is also missing.

Chest about 24.9 inches long; 9.6 inches tall; 10.5 inches deep. Handcrafted with care. Including interlocking wooden pieces. No plastic here! Lock works! Nice compartment inside. Antique Steamer Trunk 1900-1950, Eagle lock no. 410
This trunk is unique from other Steamer Trunks of the era. At some point 1 inch caster wheels were added for ease of transporting 3 are steel wheels, 1 is wood. The covered insert tray is still with the trunk as well. It has some flaws, but who would not at its age. The lock is manufactured by the Eagle Lock co of Terryville, Conn. U.S.A. no. 410. That is printing in the lid saying water proof, and a note written in pencil on the back top of the storage tray not to sell this trunk. It is a very nice piece. With the wheels it might even make a great coffee table. The size is 34" L x 21w x 24 3/4h with the wheels. Questions please contact us.

Eagle was the largest trunk and cabinet lock maker in the world. They exported their locks to the West Indies and South America. The company at one time had three manufacturing plants and 1800 employees. Eventually the company was sold to people who lack knowledge about the lock business and proceeded to make many bad decisions. Barely holding on in the early 70's another individual bought the company from Penn-Akron Corp. Which had gone bankrupt. But by 1974 it was out of business after losing a bid to the Lori Corporation for a large order for cylinders for the U.S. Postal Service. Trunk-n-Treasure Beautiful Refinished Flat Top Steamer Antique Trunk W/lock, Key
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk with original Working Lock. Original key, and straps. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we have refinished for the past 8 years. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed the canvas from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the canvas we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil as a finish. After much research we have found ... morethat by using tung oil, not only does it not leave such a strong odor as other finishes, but it also penetrates the wood preventing the wood from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles and two new latches to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid of this trunk you will find the original trunk stay. This trunk also has the original working lock with the original key. Due to the age of the trunk, having both lock and key is a rarity. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk also has new leather straps to help keep the lid fastened and to bring back the originality of the trunk. Many trunks this age had straps such as those that we replaced to help keep items secured when traveling. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look and repainted the metal black. Antique 19th-C hasp-type lock& key. Marked Corbin Cabinet Lock Co. New Britain, Conn. Hinged lock measures 6" in height. Looks to be nickel over brass with steel hinge pin with brass bolt and strike. Includes original barrel-type key, all working well. The bottom mounting section has 3 holes, two with old rivets to be cut off if planning to use. Early and superb old lock.
