EARLY ANTIQUE HAND FORGED IRON BLACKSMITHS TRUNK BLANKET CHEST LOCK AND HANDLES
This auction is for some early hand forged hardware from a chest or trunk. The lock is missing the sliding bar and one of the handles needs the ends hammered over as the original ends broke off that hold the back plate on. The lock is very neat in design and a good blacksmith could probably repair them.The lock measures 7" long x 4 1/8" wide and overall 2" thick. The handles are 6 3/4" long x 2 1/4" wide. What appears to be a VERY old item out of trunk loaded with very old items. I know little about. Amazing patina and looks to very early lockset although don't know for sure. Lots of pictures so PLEASE examine carefully as what you see is what you get. Measures approx. 2.75" square. Key is 4" long. Very low start.No Reserve. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK XCLNT COND:TRAY, WORKING LOCK & KEY
This 1800's clean steamer trunk is in(my assessment) is in Excellent Original Condition. INTERIOR: The trunk is made of solid wood. The interior is fully lined with a paper liner. The paper is a striped pattern. I have included a close up photograph of the lined paper. I consider the quality to be excellent. I can provide additional close up photographs as requested. EXTERIOR: Dimensions: 39" L x 24.25" W X 22.24" H The sides are a brown metal with wooden slats and really nice brass with the brass round accents. The leather handles on each end are in excellent condition. There are two latches also in excellent condition in addition to the central lock with key. The leather straps around the trunk could be refurbished. RIght now the are excellent on the top. But note they are torn and not able to fasten. I can provide close-up ... morephotographs as needed, just ask me. I was only able to load 12 pictures here. LOCK& KEY: I have the key which works to unlock the lock. I have included a photograph of the key.There is slight bend in the metal on the lock so you do need to jiggle it to open. The bottom line though is. The trunk locks and unlocks with the key. I like the key because of the heart shape. TRAY: It has the original tray and the tray has the original top. Both tray and top are lined with the same paper as the trunk. The removable tray sits in the top portion of the trunk. In the photographs below I have included a photograph with the tray outside of the box on the carpet with the top on. I have also included photographs of the tray inside to box. One of the photographs is of the tray inside the box with the top folded over so that you can see half of the tray's contents. The other photograph is of the tray inside the box with the top removed. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT: With my own research(I am NOT an expert) I estimate this trunk to be approximately made circa 1872 based on these three facts: 1. This vintage trunk has been in storage for quite a few years. It's still functional with the lid still opening and closing. I'm not sure if the lock works. I don't have a key for it and didn't want to have it lock on me. The lock is made by eagle lock company of CT. The leather straps are not all there due to its age but the fasteners still work. I'm not sure of its age. The lining is paper and is peeling. This is for local pickup only. It measures 2 1/2 feet long 21 1/2 half inches high 18 1/2 inches front to back. Thank you for looking!

It is monogrammed in red with the initials of the only owner. The leather hnadles are very worn and the brass-tone trim has corrosion. There is a train travel sticker on the front and a last train travel label on the handle dated 1955. It has storage stains inside, including brown spots and white spots, and the fabric is worn. Antique 1800's Brown Eveleigh Baggage Trunk with Eagle Lock Co. Hardware
This trunk was purchased in 1983 from an Antique Shop in the Boston. MA area. We've owned it since and used it for storage and as a coffee table. It's a flat-top steamer and got its name because it was often seen on steam ships. At the time it was commonly referred to as a"Packer" It was the baggage of choice from around 1870 to the 1920's. There's a stiff. Folded fabric-covered piece that I assume rested over an interior tray, although no tray was included when we bought it. The interior frame to support a tray remains. The cover shows the name" Eveleigh Baggage" that it was made in Canada by a company established in 1870. The lock is from the Eagle Lock Company in Terryville. CT, but we have no key. These locks were patented in the late 1800's as well. Eveleigh trunks were primarly sold in New York/USA. ... moreMost early steamer trunks were shorter than other trunks so they could be stored under cabin beds on steam ships. But this one is tall enough to use also as a table. It's not considered a wardrobe trunk because there are no drawers or hangers. Most of the leather is intact. But neither handle would support lifting. It has small wheels on the bottom that are not visible unless you look underneath, but make it easy to move around. There are no holes in the exterior, but the interior fabric would need replacing if one were planning a total restoration. Eveleigh Baggage Company of Montreal. Candada started in 1870 making suitcases and trunks. They were eventually sold in 1957 to J.E. Lortie Company. The Eagle Lock Company in Terryville, CT began in 1833& was a huge manufacturer of trunk locks. Approximate Dimensions: 2'10" L x 2' H x 20"W(or deep) Approximate Weight: 40 lbs. Antique Trunk Lock - "Argosy"
I am selling a brass-coloured trunk lock. A small picture of a boat is engraved on the top of the lock with"Argosy" written on the sail. It says"Lever Lock Hand Made" underneath the boat. The bottom and top parts of the lock separate and could be placed on a trunk and used with a padlock. The lock pieces themselves could be easily through-bolted to a trunk- the picture of the back of the lock shows the nuts that would attach the lock. There is no key and I'm not sure that the key mechanism is complete. I am also including a small. Keyless drawer lock in this auction. It is missing its spring but is otherwise intact. Antique Camel Back Victorian Era Steamer Trunk Double Lock ca. 1871 Original NR!
You're looking at a Victorian era camel/hump/domed/barrel back steamer trunk wrapped in tin ca.1871. This trunk is showing the overall wear you'd expect to see on something over a century old but I'd say this is in fantastic shape for its age. I'll describe the flaws as best I can but please use the photos provided to make your own assessment. It has a double key lock which works but is a bit tricky and. The key is present but cannot be removed from the lock(I didn't wanna pull too hard) The leather handles have torn off over the years and one wheel on the bottom is missing along with one of the decorative metal pieces on the lid. The original lidded insert(which rarely survives) is completely intact however. There is a tear in the left lid(see photos) Most importantly. It appears that no one has tried to paint, paper ... moreor modernize this in any way. The hardware hasn't been painted, the interior still has what appears to be the original paper lining(no wall paper) and the nails all appear to be original. Dimensions are: 32" width. 18" depth, approx. 26" height at the peak of the domed lid. In my humble opinion. This trunk could be displayed as-is with all of its original character or would be an excellent candidate for restoration! eBay limits the photos to 12 but if you'd like more. This particular trunk is a very beautiful. Highly decorated, nice, clean refinished dome top Victorian steamer trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk actually has patent dates still visible on the lock. The picture shows the date October 1871. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. ... moreWe then took off the metal to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has a lid stay to help keep it open. You will also find an original picture on the lid. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk is very rare. It has two latches on one lock. This is the original. We do not have a key for this but we felt that the value of this lock alone with a patent date is more valuable than replacing with a new lock. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk was obviously one of the higher class trunks produced at this time. This is a repainted flat black lot of very old steamer trunk hardware. You get all u see! There is an Eagle Lock& latch. 2 sets of fastener hinges and a flat plate. No key with the Eagle lock but it is numbered 3446 so might be something easy enough to find but I no longer have the original. All were cleaned well and repainted. Second, the gentle round top is just fine for sitting although your guests will stay longer if you put a cushion on top. It is 38 ¾” long by 18 1/4” wide by 19” tall and weighs 46 lbs. It is made of pine. And it has a till inside. The till never had a lid. The till is divided into two sections, and there is an extra"frame" inside.
