Thank you for taking the time to look at the details of this beautiful antique trunk. This Particular Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk comes with Lock. Keys, tray. And original picture. We at Trunks-n-treasures take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very beautiful. Highly decorated, nice, clean refinished dome top Victorian steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside and out to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, we sanded all the wood and then ... moreapplied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has a lid stay to help keep it open. You will also find the original picture on the lid. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk also comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. Please take the time to notice all of the fancy metalwork on this trunk showing off its beauty. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. For this trunk we also made a replica tray just like the original. The tray is divided into deep compartments to store small items in. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. This is a large lot of 26 drawer pulls and 1 NOS Newton brass trunk lock with both the keys(key numbers match that of the lock) The lock appears to have never been used and is in like-new condition. The drawer pulls are mostly brass. I have placed matching pieces together in the photos. I am considering each unit as one piece even though in most cases there is a decorative back plate. Antique German Iron Trunk Lock &Key & Neo-classical Brass Escutcheon c. 1790
This antique 18th c. German lock is entirely blacksmith made with hand filed and riveted elements. It works off double springs that scissor around the original hand wrought tang. The original key is a large beautifully patinated key with turned shaft and a bow handle. The brass escutcheon(which show signs of fire gilding on its reverse side-see photo) is neoclassical in character with central oval section surmounted by an urn above fretwork flutes and with the base decorated with drapery pendants. The design of the escutcheon suggests a German origin for this lock set. The lock case is 4.75" long and has a tapering body that is 4.25" wide at the base and 3.75" wide at the top. Its overall; thickness is about 5/8" The escutcheon is 5.75" long and 2.5" wide. The satiny finish is in excellent condition. Preserving a few mars and dings for character. A pine frame surrounds inlaid panels of exquisite inlaid marquetry in traditional folk patterns. Incorporating various local fruit and nut hardwoods. One end bears initials Y and H over a W, presumably the wedding couple for whom this wonderful chest was intended. There are various losses to the inlay work. See photos. The original wrought iron lock works with a giant key. Engraved iron hinges appear original, lower arms were remounted long ago.
