What appears to be a VERY old item out of trunk loaded with very old items. I know little about. Amazing patina and looks to very early lockset although don't know for sure. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK XCLNT COND:TRAY, WORKING LOCK & KEY
This 1800's clean steamer trunk is in(my assessment) is in Excellent Original Condition. INTERIOR: The trunk is made of solid wood. The interior is fully lined with a paper liner. The paper is a striped pattern. I have included a close up photograph of the lined paper. I consider the quality to be excellent. I can provide additional close up photographs as requested. EXTERIOR: Dimensions: 39" L x 24.25" W X 22.24" H The sides are a brown metal with wooden slats and really nice brass with the brass round accents. The leather handles on each end are in excellent condition. There are two latches also in excellent condition in addition to the central lock with key. The leather straps around the trunk could be refurbished. RIght now the are excellent on the top. But note they are torn and not able to fasten. I can provide close-up ... morephotographs as needed, just ask me. I was only able to load 12 pictures here. LOCK& KEY: I have the key which works to unlock the lock. I have included a photograph of the key.There is slight bend in the metal on the lock so you do need to jiggle it to open. The bottom line though is. The trunk locks and unlocks with the key. I like the key because of the heart shape. TRAY: It has the original tray and the tray has the original top. Both tray and top are lined with the same paper as the trunk. The removable tray sits in the top portion of the trunk. In the photographs below I have included a photograph with the tray outside of the box on the carpet with the top on. I have also included photographs of the tray inside to box. One of the photographs is of the tray inside the box with the top folded over so that you can see half of the tray's contents. The other photograph is of the tray inside the box with the top removed. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT: With my own research(I am NOT an expert) I estimate this trunk to be approximately made circa 1872 based on these three facts: 1. With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with an antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Tray, original picture and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then took off the canvas to reveal the gorgeous wood. This beautiful trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper from the inside, ... morewe sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. The lid on this trunk also has the original lid stay to help keep it open. You will also see that we were able to apply an original picture on the inside of the lid that came from another trunk that we have used for parts. On this trunk are two new leather Amish handles. The original latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. As in trunks of this style and age.We have applied two straps on the front. Steamer trunks in that era used the straps to help keep the lid securely sealed if needed, especially when traveling. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. This trunk also comes with a tray made as a replica of the original. Nice Refinished Antique Curve Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a beautiful refinished embossed metal trunk that has a slight arched top to it. There are ten pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 inches. The embossed metal has a woven wicker pattern to it. The outer slat boards look to be ash or oak. We have finished the outer slat boards with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect the wood and give it a nice appearance. The metal parts that make up this trunk have been painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This one comes with the original working lock. The lock does have a brass key hole cover which we have semi polished. There are not any ... moreother brass metal parts on this trunk except for the key hole cover. We matched up an older key that does work with this lock. This trunk should date back to the late 1800's. The front latches were missing when we received this trunk. We have run buckles with straps in place of the latches which are functional. When buckled, in addition to the front lock, they do help hold the trunk's lid to it's base securely. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. This trunk could make a nice gift for a loved one or family member who enjoys collecting refinished antique furniture pieces. They could store any collectibles within it. If they collect dolls or teddy bears, they can be displayed in and within the trunk with the lid in the open position. Going to the interior, we have removed the worn out looking paper lining and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. The interior is in pretty clean condition considering how old this trunk actually is. A nice trunk maker's style picture has been added to the underside of the arched top. Nice Freshened Up Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a cute metal dome top that we picked up and freshened it up. There are nine pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. The embossed metal on the top and front has flowers and leaves patterned onto it. This is the original metal and paint from the factory. The rest of the metal has been freshened up and hand painted in black and gold leaf. The outer slat boards appear to be ash or oak and they have been given two coats of polyurethane. This pretty dome top comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. The front two latches are also original ... moreand work well since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining from the wood since it was worn out looking. The interior wood has been given two coats of polyurethane. A picture of a young person posing has been added to the underside of the dome. A wooden piece has been put from the front on the inside to the back. It has been done so so the trunk lid will line up with the lock and lower latches. Going to the bottom underneath this cute trunk, it has normal wear and it also has the four factory original metal casters on the bottom that still do spin. This one has been pretty much freshened up instead of totally refinished. It did turn out to be nice looking. Especially with the flowered metal. Antique Miniature Scandinavian rosemalled trunk w/ orig. lock& key& sm handles Antique miniature Scandinavian rosemalled trunk with original working lock and key Circa 1900 to 1930. This rosemalled miniature trunk has all of it's paint and is in great condition. These were American made in the manner of the old immigrant trunks from the early to mid 1800's from Norway and Sweden. The colors are primarily red and black with green. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Original Tray With Lids and Pictures Here is an absolutely beautiful dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the late 1800's. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware
