The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. Antique(circa 1890- 1910) steamer trunk by one of the luxury brands of its time. Beals& Selkirk. The company was founded in 1889 in Detroit before relocating to Wyandotte. Michigan a few years later. The trunks produced by Beals and Selkirk were considered to be amongst the finest of their time. These trunks were built to withstand the toughest of handling. They were reinforced with leather or metal corners, straps, bumpers. handles, hinges, and locks. After the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 left thousands of people homeless, Beals and Selkirk sent 6 carloads of trunks. They also mass produced a simpler style for the army during WWI and WWII. By the 1920's, the Beals and Selkirk company shifted from trunks to handbags, appliance covers, and doctors' bags. This particular trunk is is good working order. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Original Working Lock and Original Working Key My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice decorative refinished flat top steamer trunk. The particular d imensions for this are 32" length. 19" width and 21" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and ... moreon the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made tan leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we were able to keep the original lock and key and they are in good working condition. Working the way up to the lid of this trunk. You will find the original stay to keep the lid open when wanted. Also on the lid you will find the original label. This is in wonderful condition and very readable. We included a picture to show you the label. We love finding these on trunks, it fills us in on a little bit of the trunk's history. ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK CHEST VINTAGE RESTORED SMALL SIZE ALLIGATOR C.1872-1900
Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1872-1900 This slightly domed trunk with simulated alligator“hide” dates from 1872 to 1900 based on its patent dates and appointments. It is constructed of pine box framing with horizontal hardwood slats. The decorative tin is embossed with an alligator pattern and the trunk is secured with steel. Tin and brass hardware. Although its exact age is undetermined. The trunk’s hasp hardware shows a patent date of July 9, 72. Therefore, it’s fair to estimate from its overall construction and appointments that this steamer probably was manufactured between 1872 and 1900. A unique feature of this trunk is that the two front hasps have small levers that allow the lid to be secured in the closed position. The lock tongue is missing, and was not replaced in the restoration, but the lock plate when cleaned revealed brilliant ... morebrass details. This trunk is lightweight and measures 24 inches long. 14 inches wide, and 15 inches high at its crown. In the refinishing. The plain paper that lined the interior and lid was removed and the inside was cleaned, sanded and finished with two coats of clear satin polyurethane to preserve the natural color of the pine. A new floor of cedar was installed and a new tray was built and stained Early American. The exterior was refinished by sanding and wire brushing the tin. Then treating it with rust inhibitor and painted with Rustoleum Satin Black. The hardwood slats were cleaned, sanded, and finished with tung oil, with steel wool between coats to enhance the finish. The embossed“alligator” tin was cleaned and wiped with Minwax Dark Walnut stain to restore its original finish. It was then sealed with tung oil to create its natural look. Antique 1920s Excelsior Salesman Sample Steamer Trunk Miniature Doll Trunk Measurements: Trunk 12" Length 8 1/4" Height 8 1/4" Width Tray 10 3/4" Length 7" Width 2" Height 5 pounds 13 ounces Good antique condition. My client's uncle purchased this trunk for my client when she was a child ill in hospital in the 1920s. The trunk is constructed from wood. Covered with a dark green heavy weight brocade pattern cloth on the outside and green and blue floral design paper on the interior. There are a few scratches and small areas of wear on the outside covering; around some of the metal hardware. The bottom, which has wear spots of less than 1/8" diameter, and one line, less than 1/8" W x 1/2" L, on the lid. A few of these wear areas reveal a cloth weave under the dark green surface. The lid and body ... moreof the trunk have metal banding. Corners and hasps and lock which are attached with metal round head rivets. Metal has age patina. Some rust where finish has worn with surface scratches and surface rub wear. It looks like the metal hardware on the corners and the locks once had a brass finish which shows sporadically across the different metal parts. The bottom metal banding had a black finish once upon a time. All of the banding may have been black. There is no key for the trunk. The outside paper is in good condition with minor scuffing. The interior floral paper has crayon markings on the lid and bottom. There is some missing paper on the interior lid and on trunk's interior sides along the top edges. The insert tray has one intentionally slanted side. The tray is lined with the matching paper and there is missing paper on the corners and along the top rim edge. The tray paper has some stain with powdery residue. The interior lid stop leather strap is broken. Metal central lock device is stamped: USA EXCELSIOR STAMFORD. We have owned this trunk since the 1940's. But we got it used. Size 36" x 20" 21" Leather cover. We have stored our winter clothes in it for decades. Since we stored clothing inside. This antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk most likely dates to the turn of the 20th century. I would guess the early 1900s based on my research. I do have an inquiry placed with Louis Vuitton to try to determine exact purchase date and price, which they say they may be able to supply me with. This trunk has some old water damage, as shown in photos, but is in very good condition overall considering. The original insert is here and the trunk opens and closes as it should. The trunk is clearly marked LV in many areas and has the original canvas strap, which is also clearly marked. The trunk is marked with a large, red H. Very nice wood dome top trunk in untouched vintage condition. Has part of the original label that refers to the keenan company that made high end trunks and luggage in downtown New York City from the Mid to Late 1800s. Please see all pictures for detail. USA" The hinges on the back will need some restoration since one side of the trunks top will detach from trunk when opened. The side handles are broken off and have been replaced by bandanas on both sides. The locks close well. I do not have the key for the front center lock. There is no foolery here! It HAD 70 years of dust on it and after a light cleaning here it is. This is an 1850's antique camel back wooden steamer trunk that spent some time on the WHITE STAR LINE's RMS OLYMPIC in 1927. This truck has 4 large CUNARD WHITE STAR LINE luggage claim stickers dated April 24th 1927 and the name Emily Whitehead on the label. The farmhouse estate sale that many of my current listed items are from were owned by the family of J. J. Whitehead. An adventurer/explorer/photographer that I am listing an antique Kalapalo Indian hunting bow. This man was an avid photographer and explorer and was traveling Brazil sometime in the 20's-30's ... morebased on photos. He looks like the original Indiana Jones to me. Photos include pictures of his wife and I believe this is her trunk. This is a very interesting story and if you have time. Please read that antique bow auction. Here is what appears to be his traveling trunk marked Whitehead that was left on the RMS Olympic and had to be delivered to New York as abandoned luggage. Original paper lining and a few personal letters from the owners inside. I have not read these but there are about 30 letters all from the 1930's. Measures 28 1/2" wide x 20" deep x 21 1/2" high. Incised into this key on the reverse side is the name of the old lock company which owned it and it reads: EHRLICH LOCK EXPERT 71 BROAD STREET PROV. R.I. Pre Civil War Antique Leather Steamer Trunk. Read the Appraisal attached!!!!
For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. The inside of the trunk had an incredibly rare drop down compartment with a green envelope type thing attached with gold trim decoration ... moreand logo. Again you will not find a trunk like this. With a history and such an ornate design anywhere. It could use a restoration or would be a great conversation starter as it it stands now. This trunk is extremely old and is being sold for the purpose of someone who can restore it. The trunk is being sold"AS IS" When viewing the pictures be advised that the condition of the trunk is very deceiving. The pictures make the trunk look in much. Much better condition than it is. in other words the trunk looks better than it does in real life) The outside of the trunk has several different faded colors. The leather handles on each side are ripped at the center. It is dirty and needs to be cleaned. The inside has a few sections that can be removed. The pictures on the inside sections have spots on them. The wood seems to be ... moreintact. The hardware on this trunk is in rather good condition. Of course, it does need a good cleaning and polishing. After all that being said. This trunk is truly unique and will be beautiful if it is restored to its original condition. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. For your consideration is a ca 1900 flat top steamer trunk. I t has been fully refinished. The originally outside canvas covering was cleaned and repainted. The interior paper has been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The lock does not have a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has the original tray with new bottom. This is a genuine heavy-duty solid wood immigrant trunk with an arched top. Markings say"PATD 1880" on the metal seals on the top. The exterior has embossed tin accents. Antique White 1800's Camel Back Steamer Trunk
I picked this at an auction and as I carried it to the truck a gentleman who appeared in his mid 70s stopped. He wanted me to know that his great grandfather immigrated from Europe in the 1800s and used this trunk to carry his items on the ship that brought him over. I love the stories and was glad that he stopped me. It is painted white and has been for a long time. It is solid. Sound and in great shape. Even the leather handles, which typically rot off, are BOTH in place. The inside, as you can see from the photos is beautiful complete with a drawing of a young woman. Restore it and you will have an incredible trunk or leave it as it and enjoy the beauty and age of this wonderful trunk.

Beautiful Refinished Antique Jenny Lind Style Trunk With Straps. Working Lock& Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really beautiful completely refinished Jenny Lind steamer trunk or travel chest from the mid 1800's and it is signed on the bottom in painted calligraphy with black paint of the owner's name and the county in Pennsylvania that he lived. Take a look at the picture of the bottom and you will see this beautiful signature. We think it is"James Selle" or something like that and it says. Mifflintown Juniata County" which is about 1 1/2 hours from our house and it is where we purchased this trunk to refinish. It is kind of neat to know who probably originally owned this trunk about 150 years ago. Anyhow, here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 26 inches, from floor to top is ... moreapproximately 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/4 inches. This is a Jenny Lind trunk as we have mentioned before in other ads. These Jenny Linds came about because of the opera singer from Europe. She traveled overseas to come to America to perform and she had beautiful trunks to carry her luggage in. The American trunk makers noticed the beautiful style and started making trunks with that look here in America for customers. It is the slice of bread shape on the side where the top angles in along with the base angling in towards the top. Also it has the metal banding with the decorative buttons or rosettes. These are notorious for the Jenny Lind style. The trunk dates back to somewhere around 1860 or so. The wood is in very nice condition. It has been finished with three coats of polyurethane to preserve it and give it a nice appearance. A lot of times, there is a big crack or gap going across the top on these older trunks because of wood shrinkage. This one only has a small hairline stress crack on the top which is very common on older trunks that we refinish. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Interior Divided Tray, and Working Lock& Key Here we have a nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with poplar or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these similar markings. ... moreThis beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the top of the trunk to it's base in addition to the lock and front latches. The front latches are in working condition and are original. The side handles have also been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Going to the inside of the trunk. It comes with the original divided tray. We have replaced the bottom of the tray with a wooden bottom to make it sturdy. We have removed the interior paper lining from the interior and tray since it was worn out. Goyard Vintage Steamer Trunk. Trunk is in very good condition with both original side metal handles. Front side latches are original and complete, missing upper hinge, latch portion to front lock. Has replacement front lock mechanism installed. The interior of the trunk is in very good condition as well. This trunk is very rare to find in such preserved condition. Please scan below description to read shipping costs/details Big size antique canvas covered wooden steamer trunk measuring 38" wide x 22-1/4" x 26" tall ALL ORIGINAL. Good looking, 2 original keys that work the lock. Flat top so you could add a piece of glass to make it your coffee table while storage hides inside! Perfect in the bedroom too! This is the most original steamer trunk we have ever had. It has the 2 original tray liners. One open, one with a folding top panel. This trunk is an antique, it is solid wood covered with the original canvas, strapped with solid wood horizontal strips for structure, edged with fancy heavy iron trims. The original clasp on either side of the front and lock are in place and work well. We were lucky to find two keys for the lock so you can hide your goodies. The initials G.M.D. are stenciled ... moreon each side of the trunk. Imagine this was the owners initials. Great storage. Good looking, ready to use with metal bottom that still has the original metal rolling wheels! These photos were taken outdoors so the colors are accurate. Take a look at the 12 photos you will not find a nicer steamer trunk on Ebay. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Very good condition. All locks and clasps work well. The hinges are sturdy in place and hold the lid up with a side arm attached to the inner wall. There is NO missing or torn/broken canvas, the wood may have some tiny dings from years of use but look very good. The bottom is metal with original metal rolling wheels. There is NO rot or rust holes on the metal, NO rot on any of the wood. The original leather handles are attached to each end of the trunk although one is quite worn. This is a beauty! Antique Salesman Child Doll Sized Steamer Trunk, Corbin Lock, Very Well Made
This is a salesman's sample. Child's or doll sized steamer trunk. I believe the Corbin lock was made between 1890-1905, so I suspect the trunk is about that age as well. The trunk and hardware are the same quality as a full-sized steamer trunk. Consequently, it is strong and sturdy for its size. The trunk is 20.25"W, 12.75"H, and 11"D. The leather side handles are gone, and there are losses to the leather trim and green coloration. I also believe there used to be a tray that fit in the interior. Additionally, the key is missing so the center latch does not operate. These keys can be replaced with the lock's information. The interior appears quite clean. We lightly cleaned and waxed the exterior. Overall, it is a charming object, that will hold a variety of items.
