Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried ... morein the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. The drawers are all there. As well as a piece that sits in the bottom drawer(see pictured photo) There is also a piece thats used to secure the hangers farther back that is pictured. The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Rare Antique Louis Vuitton Trianon Gray Steamer Trunk 1880's
This trunk has been authenticated by the curator of the Louis Vuitton exhibition in Paris through emails. It's the real deal! This size is a rare half steamer. Measuring 13.5 inches high. 35.5 in wide, and 19.5 inches in depth. This trunk is about 130 years old, has traveled the oceans, and shows it's wear. It does have some condition issues. Please look at the pictures carefully. The inside is covered in the original blue/white striped ticking, and it has it's original removable tray, very rare to find the tray with the trunk! Also original label from the Paris Exhibition with the dates 1867, 1868. You can see half a serial number on the top of label. There is also a Louis Vuitton stamp on the bottom of trunk. A"W" is painted on both side ends. It is very very rare to find a gray, un-monogrammed trunk, This is a piece ... moreof history! The very first trunk Louis Vuitton made was the Trianon gray canvas steamer introduced in 1858. The trunks were made of waterproof-treated canvas with a wooden frame. Previously. Trunks of the day featured rounded tops to facilitate water run-off. Many other designers of the day imitated Louis Vuitton's Flat Topped Trianon Trunk, so in 1876 he changed the plain gray Trianon design to a striped pattern making it harder for his imitators to copy. Absolutely FANTASTIC and ONE OF A KIND Piece of Late 1800s European-American Culture. This AUTHENTIC IMMIGRANT TRUNK was brought to the USA by W H POPE. The thickly painted writing on top states: W H POPE PASSENGER TO MASSILLON OHIO USA. Northeast Ohio. Near Canton(south of Cleveland) Made of STEEL. With slightly corrugated sides, Oval Shaped, Hinged Lid. HAND MADE HASP holds the handle. And FRONT LATCH appears to be hand made, as well. And the single, LONG hinge at back. All 3 are very well done, but do not at all look like factory made pieces. Construction is STURDY. With Lapped edged on lid, Bottom and sides. Heavy enough to be STURDY and strong, but not too heavy to be unweildly. All hinges and clasps are secure and strong. Painted a dark bittersweet/mustardy-brown color. With white, but age darkened painted writing on top. Though European ... morein Origin. I do not know for sure where it originated from. The Estate Owners THOUGHT it came from Belgium or Poland. Antique Black Steamer Travel Trunk Leather Handles on Each End Front Latch NEAT!
This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1800s DOME STEAMER TRUNK CHEST WOOD 4 ORIGINAL COMPARTMENTS
We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! Large size 36 x 21 inches and 24 inches tall Great size for a coffee table. Tv stand, statement piece for any room, or as blanket chest or for storage very sturdy. Antique Green Gentleman's 1910 Wardrobe Steamer Trunk, Originated Kennett, Mo.
This is an antique gentleman's wardrobe steamer trunk. Circa 1910. The outer color is a very dark Forest Green. I found it in a Monrovia, California antique store about ten years ago- and it hs been stored ever since. I ws originally taken by the color. As a child we traveled with steamer trunks, but I have never seen one with an interior this shade of bright green. It is large and heavy. Measures 38 inches in height, 25 inches in width, and 22 inches in depth. It stands on end and is opened into two halves. The left side has a velvet cusion top with a fold out hanger design with the original 8 wooden hangers for the gentleman's suits, and trousers. There is a fabric"screen" that latches to hold the garments in place, but opens and swings out when access needed. There are four fabric shoe holders at the bottom that have ... morebrass snaps to secure the gentleman's shoes. The right side has three small drawers on top with five large drawers below them. The larger drawers have fabric belts used to secure the contents. There is a sort of hump on the top of the trunk to ensure that it is not stood upside down when in transit. The trunk has the owner's initials on the outside as well as his home town: T.E.L. Kennett, Mo. His name was actually Thomas Ely Lasswell. There are decals from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. as well as the original Railway label indicating Mr. Lasswell's address in Kennett. I have looked everywhere I can think of, but have not been able to find the manufacturer's name on the trunk. It looks like a Hartmann, but I'm not sure. The lock does indicate that it was made in 1910 by Eagle Lock Co in Terryville, Conn. I find this a really interesting trunk and a bit of Americana- a young man traveling from Missouri to California in the early part of the 20th century. This trunk measures 15" long 9" wide and 9" tall.The outside of it is in very good condition.The inside will need a little work. A piece of wood that acts as a ledge for the tray is missing and the wood in the back of the trunk has a piece missing.Someone plastered the space and the plaster eventually fell out. Auto epoxy body filler would do the job to fill that void and a 1" x 1" strip of wood wood replace the ledge.

Up for auction is a vintage steamer truck/chest from a mansion in Scarsdale. New York. The family stated it was an ancestral trunk. It was wrapped in sheets in the attic. The outside looks good for its age. One of the leather handles is intact the other is broken but still on the trunk. The metal detailing throughout is stunning. The footing I’ve never seen. The latches say“patd 79” and the middle plate says. Patd May 54 and April 73. Hence, this is pre-1880. The inside is rough but it still has all the Victorian inserts! The inserts are in really tough shape, ripped, water damaged but it’s all there. The entire drawer/insert comes out. Size is approximately 32”X25”X14” It’s all original…I won’t even dust it. The trunk measures about 25" long by 12" tall by 8" deep and is in as found uncleaned condition. The leather on the outside of the trunk is in overall good shape. It does have some wear like scratches and tears. The inside of the trunk has it's original cloth liner and tag seen in picture 9. The lid of the trunk and the leather handle are a little loose but overall this is a nice solid antique piece that would look great in your home. Refinished Double Lock Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks and Key Here is the first double lock refinished dome top trunk that we have had in a very long time. This trunk dates back to the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This large dome top is made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome is made up of early ply. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. This one has a lot of distress marks which include areas on the wood that are darker in color, probably due to moisture in various places on this trunk. Also there are stress cracks running across the top wood that makes up the dome. There are typical nicks and dings in various ... moreplaces. This particular trunk was a little more weathered when we received it than most of the trunks we refinish. So we did make it as nice as we could, but do want to mention some of the characteristics. This one comes with the two factory original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each of the locks. You can lock your personal belongings away from others if you want to. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps and the handle caps have an embossed star on them. You could store a lot of belongings inside this trunk since it is pretty large. It may look nice at the foot of the bed in the bedroom or anywhere in your house where storage space is needed. If you are one who enjoys collecting rustic more primitive style antiques, then this one might be just the right one for you since it is more rustic than most trunks that we refinish. Antique Steamer Trunk With Eagle Lock Canvas and Wood Nice Condition
I am selling a really nice antique steamer trunk. This piece is in really nice condition. The interior panels are all solid, no rotting. The hinges are tight, when you close the lid it matches up perfectly at the latches and lock. The original handles were missing so I attached handles on it to make it easy to move but they are not in the original posistion as shown in pics. Some of the corner metal pieces are dented, other ones are perfect. The lock is an Eagle Lock brand lock, I dont know if it locks because I dont have the key so I wont completely close the lock. The trunk is 35 inches long, 21 inches deep and 13 inches tall. If you have any questions please ask and I'll be glad to help.

Antique Indestructo Steamer Trunk with Hangers and drawers
T his Indestructo steamer style trunk came from an old estate of a well-traveled couple living in the Shenandoah Valley. Virginia. Included with the trunk is 1 Suit Jacket Hanger, 1 Pants Hanger, 4 Shirt Hangers. The trunk appears to be fairly complete, however the lock has been removed by the previous owner. Many locks for this style trunk are available on Ebay but it doesn't affect the quality, nor functionality of this Indestructo Trunk. The trunk also has 4 drawers that all open well and has a bar lock to keep the drawers from opening on their own or being tampered with. The removable shoe box is complete with snaps but the leather has since torn over the years. This would be an easy fix for anyone competent in leather work. This is a great original antique trunk that measures 36" long X 23.5" Tall X 21 1/4" wide This is a big one. I am not sure of exact date when it was manufactured. But i would put somewhere around 1940's. The stamp on the lock reads Long Lock and Lock# 907. It has genuine leather handles on both sides. All the rivets are in place. The hardware is made from brass. The trunk is made of Vulcanized Fiber. It is in sound shape. There is a pull out drawer with the lid. The drawer is divided in two sections. You are viewing a very stunning antique Steamer trunk. Out of all the trunks I've refinished. This is by far the most unique. The metal trim on all sides, front and back has a unique detailing to it. I would dare to say it is one of a kind. It has been refinished inside and out to bring out the beautiful patina to the Pine base and Oak slats. The lock is very ornate with great looking designs. The end clamps and hardware are also very detailed and unique. It has 4 working casters on the bottom to help in moving from place to place. I left the original paperwork holder on the inside top of lid. It is a little stained, but all intact with leather strap to keep it shut. The dimensions are; L35" W21" and H24" It has a slight arch to the top, but could still be used as a coffee or end table. Or just display it proudly for everyone ... moreto see.
