Sitting on two wooden slats and with a sold brass lock which unfortunately no longer has a key. Dimensions: width 77cm x depth 52cm x height 59cm This is a fantastic looking trunk which would make a great blanket box. Toy box, or a hall chest for shoes, coats and umbrellas. Considering its over 100 years old it is in great condition with some wear which just adds to the vintage appeal. The up an over straps are missing which you will see in the images. Antique Hat Steamer trunk shipped 6 HATS and has ladies accessories compartment
It is 24"L x 22"H x 17 1/2" D. The cloth part is gray. This trunk was used in the early 1900's for trips abroad. I can provide you with some of the history of its owner if you are interested. For instance. She was a wealthy single woman and drove an ambulance in WW11. It can hold 6 hats, and has a separate compartment for lady's accessories. The trunk is a nice size for using as a display/storage piece, which is why I removed the 6 hot holders. But I saved them all, and you can see them in the photos. Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Tray Here is a very nice clean refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. This beautiful hump back chest is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has a nice natural color, or patina which has come about only by age since there was no staining of the wood during the refinishing process. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with only some typical character marks which include older nicks and dings and some stress cracks. This one comes with ... morethe original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The front latches are original and are in working condition since the springs are intact. The side handles on this trunk have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. All of the leather that we use on our trunks comes from an Amish man in an Amish community near our house here in Pennsylvania. Going to the interior of this great trunk. It comes with an interior tray which we have replaced the bottom with wood to make it sturdy. This trunk's interior has also has the hidden compartment on the left side under the dome that we recreated. We put the drop door back on this compartment area and added a nice picture to the door. You can drop this door down to put items in this area and conceal them up inside the dome. At the right side, we have left the original decorative emblem and border in place. This is a beautiful Antique Steamer Trunk has a very simple yet fancy design. The metal brackets are in the shape of crowns and elaborate. The wood is smooth and clean. The wood seems to have been coated with a varnish. It measures 30 1/2 inches long. 18 1/2 front to back, and is 20 1/2 inches tall. The inside is original unrestored condition. The paper is torn and missing in areas but the inside is clean and useable for storage. The original paper has artwork reminisent of days long past. This piece has obviously been cared for. Arch Top Steamer Trunk Beautifully restored. 1800's trunk. Top is covered in a crocodile vinyl, new handles made of the same crocodile vinyl. Wood has a deep red mahogany finish, remainder of trunk is finished in deep browns, finished on the bottom also. Interior is covered in a deep brown felt. Nice sturdy piece. Doesn't look like it ever had latches, does have a lock, but no key. I have been told that a locksmith will be able to come up with a key, due to the primitive nature of the lock. It also never had wheels, like some do, and no interior trays. Has enough of a flat surface on top to hold a tray, so it could be used as a coffee or end table. Fancy Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key & Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Fancy Hardware. Working Lock and Key, and Interior Divided Tray This is a really fancy dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the mid to late 1800's. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful camel back chest is made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. As usual. There are plenty of older distress marks on this trunk from many years of usage. These character marks do include older nicks and dings and some stress cracks in various places. Overall, the trunk is sturdy and you can sit on the top of this trunk without any problems in case you want to use it at the foot of the bed while changing your clothing. This one definitely has a heck of a lot of fancy metal hardware. None of the metal on this trunk is brass, so we have therefore brush painted the metal parts by hand in black and gold leaf. If you have been waiting for a flashy, fancy dome top, then here it is. There are patent dates on some of the cap metal. It looks like March of 1880. We have shown a close up picture of one of these dates on this trunk. This gorgeous trunk comes with the original working lock. There appears to be a patent date on the key hole cover, although it is difficult to see the year. It does have April abbreviated. We did match up a key that works with this lock. The engagement prong on this lock has been pried open in the past, but it still engages with the upper part ok. The front latches work properly since the springs are intact. These nice front latches are off of a parts trunk which should date back to nearly the same time that this trunk was made. Antique Vintage Small Child Size Travel Steamer Trunk w/ Tray & Key
A recent estate sale purchase. A small child's size travel/ steamer trunk complete with a tray and a key. This trunk measures approximately 22" long X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. Antique Trunk Restored! Beautiful! Circa 1880's to 1890's
For sale today is a very nicely restored medium size humpback trunk and the restoration turned out just great. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's to 1890's which makes this great old humpback a 100 plus years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the bottom is solid. Has the original slats, the wood has multiple coats of paint applied and give two coats of clear. The four original metal wheels work well and the trunk rolls easily. There are three original hinges that are heavy duty, tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. A new black leather lid lifter was installed. The original center lock has been polished, there is no key and the top half of the lock is missing. There are ... more35 plus pieces of polished hardware on the trunk. The two original mechanical latches are HD, fancy, polished and both work. The interior has been removed and the tray is long gone. All the metal/tin on the trunk is in VGC. Has the original metal lid stay and the lid closes well. A new black leather lid lifter was installed. The trunk has 12 original solid oak slats in a golden oak color. Two new black leather handles were installed with the original end caps. antique Civil War Navy SAILOR'S TRAVELING SEA TRUNK dated "1865"
This old sailor's wooden trunk measures 28" long x 19" wide x 21" high and shows dovetailed construction with rope handles on sides. Dating from the Civil War. The seaman who owned the trunk penciled an inscription in three lines on the underside of lid which is hand written and difficult to decipher but it has a date visable"November 1865" and his name is on the bottom line(difficult to make out) The trunk is heavily constructed with reinforced iron strap hinges that go all the way around and they are held in place with old hand forged rose-head nails. Also of interest is that it still retains both of its original hemp rope handles and there was some old shells in the bottom when the trunk was found. Condition: the right clasp hinge with eye bolt is missing and was replaced with another clasp. Some of the nails ... moreholding the strap hinges are more modern replacements but could easily be removed and square nails put in their place. Some of the wood slats are cracked. One rope handle is detached but both could be replaced easy enough. The trunk is still very sturdy. If you collect Civil War era Navy or mid 19th century nautical items. Antique Blue Steamer Trunk - Wooden Frame with Metal Corners & Braces
This is a nice bright blue steamer trunk. With metal corners, hardware and strapping. I believe the walls, bottom and lid are made of thin plywood with an exterior lining of sheet metal.Measuring about 29½" x 14½" and about 10¼" tall, it has a single leather or faux leather carrying handle on the front, right beside the lock. The inside is lined with paper printed with a wood grain design. I don't know the age of it, but it looks mid twentieth century, doesn't it? I also don't see any sign of manufacturer identification, and no labels to tell where it traveled. It has some surface scuffs and scratches. Especially on the top and bottom, in fact there are some distinct pressure dents around the edge of the lid, as shown in the third picture below. It is made of solid oak with the original finish that has a nice patina and is finished on all sides including the back. The inside of the trunk has been painted red but can be stripped back to the natural oak. The trunk is 48" wide, 22" deep, and 24 1/2" tall. There is a piano hinge that opens the top. There is a lock but I do not have the key. The trunk was originally on rollers. Antique Small KNGHTS TEMPLAR/COLUMBUS Trunk KEARNES LURAY VA VIRGINIA OOAK 1880+ This is a beautiful. one-of-a-kind" Knight Templar or Knight of Columbus uniform traveling trunk, circa 1880-1900. It is marked H.M. Kearnes Luray 19 Luray, VA from Luray Virginia. The lock plate is marked with patent dates of March'59& April'77 and the hinge bar is marked May'70- please note these are 1800 dates(1859, 1870 and 1877) The exterior has canvas over wood with metal corners and lock latch. The interior features paper covering-womens clothes and accessories in the cover and checkered pattern on the lower section-with some water spots. This antique treasure measures 10 3/4" by 18" by 10 3/4" and is in good condition consistent with its age. This is a small trunk made to carry uniform items for members of the Knights of Columbus, Knights Templar, etc. and that is why the cross and number are on the side. This was very common for the members of these groups to have these trunks with their name and unit number on them. These were made by the M.C.Lilley company of Columbus, OH. They made all types of military and society items including these small uniform trunks. I have old catalog pages that show these and also the uniforms, etc. I also have many pictures of these small trunks with the hats, gloves, and other old uniform items still in them. Very Rare Museum Quality Soft Top Leather Covered Trunk Ca 1810 This trunk is extreme;ly rare and desirable! The trunk is entirely handmade and features a very unusual soft leather top. Perfect for a great interior design element in many situations FREE SHIPPING! We have only seen one of these besides ours in an Army Fort museum in Colorado It has unique brass tack decoration common the the period and has original hand forged iron handles. Lock and latch. The soft top allowed for laundry or served as an extra clothing compartment accessed through the inside of the lid. When the lid is stuffed(we have pillows in it now) the top of the trunk is cushioned and doubled as a seat. For your consideration is a ca 1885 dome top steamer trunk. I t has been fully refinished. The originally outside canvas covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The lock does not have a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has the original tray. This trunk 32" wide X 25" high X 19" deep. It has an unusual piece of embossed metal on top. The cost of packing. Antique ELEPHANT TRUNK UP bookends RONSON gild art deco sculptures
Rare. Heavy, original pair of gilded elephant bookends with their trunks raised up by Ronson. Circa 1930. This set is nicely detailed and in very good condition. It is quite large and heavy. Each bookend stands 7" tall, 6 1/2" long, 3 1/4" wide and weighs 3 lbs. 4 oz. 6 lbs. 8 oz. for the pair) They are in very good condition. The gold is intact indicating the quality of the finish. The bases are black enamel with some finish loss. The elephants have tusks which are intact. One is flattened a bit on the tip. They have no breaks or repairs. They show beautifully with the aged gilded finish.
