ANTIQUE PAINTED BLANKET CHEST FROM THE MARITIMES
A GREAT DECORATIVE ITEM FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON1 A painted pine blanket chest discovered in Nova Scotia. It is solid pine boards with through dovetailed corners. The top measures 19 1/2" wide by 46 1/2" long. Inside it measures 16 1/2" by 41 1/2" by 18" deep. The overall height from the floor is 25 1/2" It is quite fancifully painted on the front with a date of 1890. It has a keep with a lid inside and a great lock and key. The lid shows more age and wear than the front with some staining. The photos are representative of the overall chests condition. The item is for pickup in Laconia N.H. by either buyer or his agent. No crating is available by seller.

18th century Antique Blanket Chest - GRAIN PAINTED - PA - Dome Trunk untouched
You are bidding on a 18th century"immigrant trunk. It is in great. Original condition. The trunk dates to the 18th century. I have had two of Rhode Island's highly respected colonial antique dealers examine the chest, and both have confirmed my approximation of age. In fact, one antique furniture expert(with a Ph.D. in history) just today, after examining the trunk for 30 minutes, said it is possible that the trunk dates to the mid, or even early 1700's, making it a full 300 years old. But I will err on the side of understatement, and simply say the trunk is 18th century. The expert was very impressed with the shape and character of the hand-forged hinges. And in particular, was effusive in his excitement with regard to the quality of the hand-forged locking mechanism(Please compare this latch/lock with the lock on the $45,000 ... moretrunk currently on eBay) It still closes with"vise-like" strength. And we both marveled at the key.which appears to be original to the locking mechanism. Can you imagine that?nearly 300 years old, and still with the probable original key. I can't go a year without losing a key. With regard to the paint: neither the two colonial America antique dealers. Nor myself, can say with absolute 100% certainty that the paint is original to the piece. Though, after examining the trunk very closely.front, back, sides, top and bottom.we could find not a thing that points to anything other than original paint. It is simply extraordinary to find a piece of this age with such deep, rich color. So I am going to err on the side of understatement, and simply say very old paint. Most probably original. With regard to the trunk's origin: Years ago. When I purchased the trunk at auction, the auctioneer had described the trunk"as found in Berks Co. Pennsylvania. This makes sense to me, as the trunk certainly has the look of northern European origin.probably Dutch, German, or Scandinavian. This hand painted old chest is 53" long. 21" wide, 21 1/2" tall and I'm not sure what type of wood it is. It is dated 1897 and there are some names and dates written on the inside of the lid. There is wear- the paint is mostly worn off of the top. The lock has been removed and the keyhole plugged, the screws in the hinges have been replaced, there is some wormwood and the candle box has been rebuilt. The bottom"feet" have some rot and someone cut the worst off so it would sit level. Even with the wear to the wood it is still very sturdy and strong. This is a very clean great looking pine blanket chest originally made in the mid to late 1800's on Cape Cod. This chest is grain painted and has a drawer that is stained a fairly darker cranberry color. Really nice contrast to the amber color of the rest of the case. The drawer has the original brass pulls. And the hinges are original as well. The top is fastened to a board along the back edge of the case top. The hinges are recessed into the wood. Very cool. There are great square nails throughout this chest. The back is 2 wide boards, unpainted. Over all the condition is great, just a few minor nicks and scratches as you would expect on chests of this vintage. No rot or damage on the feet. The dimensions are 18.5 W x 43L x 34.5H. This chest of drawers was purchased by my grandmother on a trip to China approximately 30 or so years ago. This piece is hand painted with musical and dancing figures on 6 of the 8 sides. The orange paint has an interesting patina type wear to its finish. It has a nicely decorated handle that can swing either to the front or back. The drawers easily slide open using the embellished metal hardware on each drawer pull. The top piece can be removed to store items inside. A children's size red lacquer. Hand painted cedar trunk from circa 1920. It has the Chinese dragon as well as the rooster. According to Chinese astrology t he Dragon and the Rooster are highly compatible due to their complementary differences. They do seem quite opposite in nature: The Dragon is fiery and exciting while the Rooster is practical. Even conservative; the Dragon operates on instinct while the Rooster relies heavily on planning. The Dragon is able to show the Rooster a good time, however, and can rely on the Rooster to bring it back down to earth when the Dragon flies too high. This trunk belonged to an aunt of mine who passed away in 1988 at the age of 102 years old. She at the time told of this trunk being in the family when she was a child. This would date this trunk back to the late 1800's at a minimum. Now over the years someone put a hasp on the thing in order to keep it secure(locked) One of the clips that hold the thing shut has the metal clamp or"hook" part missing. I have been told by antique dealers that it is not too hard to find one. The flowers. And birds that are put on it(some form of inlay or type of paint) are quite pretty. The weight of the truck empty is approx 19 pounds. The length is 32 inches. Antique Fancy Painted Blanket Hope Chest Box 2 Board Top 1780 - 1810 Rose-head
Excellent early hand made blanket chest. Circa 1780- 1810. The hope or dower box measures about 45 1/2" long x 27" deep x 24 3/4" tall. The top is constructed of two pine boards. The largest board measures 15 3/4" x 1" The top pine boards are edged with 1" oak. The pine boards have through exposed tenons. The tenons ends can be seen through the oak edging as can hard wood pegs. The pegs are slightly protruding due to age drying. The side boards are constructed with hand cut dovetails. The lid is held in place by two hand wrought hinges and are attached with rose head nails. On both sides of the chest, the front and top lid there are hand painted designs. The designs appear to be a heart with floral patterns. These designs were hand painted with a"heavy loaded" brush and incised giving the appearance ... moreof carvings. The exterior, with the exception of the back, has the original blue/ green dark paint. The interior has the bottom board of the candle till on the left side; other components are missing. Also please note remnants of old paper at the board joints of the top. The lock hasp is present, but the lock is missing. The top lid's paint and designs are very worn due to the common practice of using these chest as seating. The boards of this chest are an early American forest cut due to type of wood used, minimal knots and width. The blanket chest has been lightly hand polished with a paste wax. One bottom board and the bun feet have been replaced at some point. There are three areas of old, inactive, insect damage. Also there are two older glue repairs at the candle till interior area. Solid and strong. I sell all antique furniture as is. Flat rate UPS ground to lower 48 states.

100 yr. Old Painted Desk We have several old antique items to sell at my folks old house that I thought would best be liquidated here on Ebay. This oak secretary or writing chest is absolutely wonderful and is so much more attractive in person than the pictures. Every authentic antique painted piece of furniture of this nature is original unique and of its own beauty and this one is no exception. Green color is rich and deeper green in person than with camera flash. The green is likely an old oil based enamel or lead paint. The top surface is glared in a couple pictures appearing a different color but it is the same green color as the rest of the cabinet. The paint is not flaking or pealing but is still very strong adhering all over. Loads of character and charm. The whole piece is solid as a brick and not rickety or wobbly. I don't see ... moreany repairs or cracks etc. Typical wear that would be indigenous to this period and stature. I took a close up of damage on interior of the door around the drop hinge arm. Drawers function well and door closes nicely. I particularly like the shaker style going narrower to the floor as seen in the side profile. The detail in curvature of the drawer fronts is unique as well. There has been no back on the cabinet for many years. I have seen hundreds of secretaries in my days but have never seen this particular style before. This little cabinet is simply divine and could be used in so many rooms of a home to suite your taste. Beautiful wooden chest/ trunk. With decorative studs and a painted rural scene with cattle. The chest measures about 12" x 12" x 10. The front has a clasp and the back has two hinges. The inside of the box is painted black. This appears to be designed to look older and/ or restored. It has an antique/ vintage appearance. But my guess is that it was restored or made to look older. The exact age is unknown. Whether it actually has significant age or was a later project, it is done very well and beautifully! There are some light scuffs throughout the piece and very light. Occasional signs of use. Overall, though, it is in very nice condition.

Description: EXCEPTIONAL. Early 19th Century TIN DOCUMENT BOX, in Original condition. CHROMOLITHOGRAPHIC FLORAL DECORATION. Done in a classic TOLEWARE Style, is still 90% or better complete, better than I have ever found in this area. ALL ORIGINAL. The colors of Turquoise, Red, and Yellow, though now muted with age, are still relatively bright. Many of these old Tin boxes were faded over the years, or worn, so were then handpainted over the decoration. This one is ALL ORIGINAL, and has never been altered or painted over. Even the TRIM lines are still relatively complete. Again. There is WEAR and muting, but still very very discernible and bright, without being garish. Large-domed lid still has most of the golden TRIM around it. Even the golden DECORATION around the top handle is still nearly complete. SIZE: Approx 9 1/2" long. 8 3/4" ... morehigh. RARE 1800's(It may be 1700's) ANTIQUE EARLY America FOLK ART HAND PAINTED TRUNK BLANKET CHEST Very old and yes I WILL SHIP TO YOUR ADDRESS Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk or blanket chest. It's a beautiful trunk with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has red white and blue with some green accents. The paint appears to be painted over what appears to be a green trunk that has some Romanian name lettering on the front. It was probably a trunk that originally came over by ship then painted by the owner after getting to America. This is all original and has nicks. Chips and scrapes, and worm marks on it as you'd expect from an item of this age. The painting ... moreon the front and sides is very colorful and worn through several areas to base color. Wow! That's amazing! The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside. The trunk is clean. There's a little tray on the left side inside, and it still has the original cover or lid to the tray. One of the hinges on the lid of the trunk was replaced at some point but is still old. The hardware on the sides is old and ornate. There are no square nails in this trunk that we can see and there are a number of worm holes at the bottom of the front and under the front lip. This is typical for old trunks like this as they've been around the block(and world) It's an nice size and is 39" wide(at the lid) L x 16" W x 14" H. It weighs about 50 lbs. we'd guess.
