The original bottom was coming loose from tray, and was cracked, so to make this trunk as fully functional as possible I thought it best to do it right! The inside of the trunk has been stripped clear of the inside paper. This is great b/c it gets rid of all old smells many old trunks hold it also makes the trunk free of many allergens the trunk has been left natural. This is so you may either leave it as is, or do it the way that suits you best. Trunk would be great as storage. At the end of a bed, as a toy chest, a coffee table, or come up with a fabulous original idea all your own: excellent condition. And will make a great gift for christmas! Estate Sale Treasures! Item Name: Metal covered. Wooden bottom and possibly wood underneath metal covering trunk/chest, appears to be made for toys. Inside is lined with paper; with unique child's graphic. Sticker inside says" Made in Austria" Description: Trunk measures: 15" x 8 3/4" x 8 1/2" Rounded corners, metal covered, tarnished and aged metal closures. The inside is lined with a heavy paper. The removable tray has compartments for toys and miscellaneous items. The outside middle closure has not been closed since I do not have a key to reopen it. The side handles appear to be leather and have the following imprinted on them: 15N 3 or 8604" I am not sure what this means or refers to; maybe you know? I will also include the toys and the knit sachet bags shown. The wooden monkey toy is broken and the others ... moreare in good to well used condition. Condition/Flaws: This child's trunk is in good average to well used vintage condition- all of the paper lining is intact however there are worn. Torn areas and vintage spots; also moisture spots are present(darker spots and stains) The metal covering is firmly attached and all bolted down(I believe it is metal since it attracts a magnet) There are lots of scuffs and tarnished areas from use and age; of which are consistent with a well traveled item. If this trunk actually traveled on the Cunard Line to Europe or on the Continental Express. It could be considered in pretty good condition! Antique ca.1885 Flat Top Metal Steamer Trunk With Unusual Interior
This is a ca. 1885 Antique refinished metal covered flat top trunk. All parts are original. It is 28.5"x 17"x 20"tall and weighs 40 lbs. It is sometimes called a monitor or waterfall trunk. The lock is marked Pat`d April 15. 1879 and the slat caps are marked Pat`d March 1880. The key has been lost. It is clad with metal with oak slats. It is possible that it was made by Charles Taylor, New York. The interior is very unusual. It has a double tray hinged system that slides out of way on steel runners. The trays are finished pine and the inside is finish with a lovely floral print. It can be pick-up or you can make arragements to have it shipped. Look carefully at the photos. No returns. This is a beautiful Victorian 1800'S Hump Back Trunk with alligator-skin patterned tin exterior covering. It is totally original. It is untouched, unmolested by refinishers or restorators, it has not be polished and has no replacement parts. Condition: Hinges are original and untampered. All of the hinges work fine. The trunk opens freely and shuts tightly. All of the wooden slates are in great condition. There is one wheel missing on the bottom and it still rolls nicely on three wheels. The Antique Trunk is the Steamer style and is wrapped on the outside with metal. I believe it is tin) and trimmed with Oak strips. The Antique Trunk is very nice and you will see the detail when you zoom in. The exterior of trunk has a black, gray and copper color. The Antique Trunk size is:24" tall, 32" long and 19 1/2" wide. This has old metal straps and I believe there are SOME square nails as shown in the 5th photo. Nice patina that has been cleaned up with some lemon oil to show the wood grains. Handles are wood! The latch does not work so when you open it you will need to push lightly where the lock plate is and it will open just fine. You can see where there are some new screws to secure the lock when it could not be opened without a key. There are a few others areas that a new screw or two have been added where they are missing to secure the straps or hinges. Antique French Trunk Storage Chest Raised Metal European
At auction is a very fine old French chest. It has great age. Patina on the metal and wood. It looks to be brass raised and dimpled metal, with different scenes on 4 panels. Inside of the box is 24" long by 18" deep by 13.5" wide Top lid size is 27.5" long by 15 3/4" wide. It has a tag on the under side of the lid that says made in France. There was another tag beside it but part of it is missing. The writing and the ink reenforce its age. I am not positive when it was made. But you can see from the pictures its very old. I havent been able to find anything like it to compare it to. My guess is mid 1800th century to the early 1900s. It has a few small nails missing on the bottom left back corner. Where it had been hit probably while moving it. Metal is all there just needs a few nails. The wood boards in the inside look like the were hand sawed, and have file, rasp marks. You can see it the picture that shows the lid opened. Not positive what the wood is but it looks to be walnut. Old steamer trunk is 34" wide x 24" height x 20" deep This is a beautiful antique flat top steamer truck from the late 1800's. This trunk has so much going on both inside and out. The outside has a embossed metal plate pattern with oak strips. It has wood paneling all over with metal detailing hinges. Has a metal latch closure. Metal reinforcements all over with leather handles on each side. Both broken. Flat-square style. Embossed metal on all sides secured with oak strips of wood. It does not come with inside box. Antique Victorian Child's Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Metal Hardwood Trim
A pretty antique Victorian style hump back steamer trunk that's in good sound condition. We believe it was used by a child based on the size( 24" long X 15" wide X 17" high at the center) It has curved hardwood slats across the top and hardwood slats across the front, sides and back, there are lots of brass tacks holding the wood in place and the wood has a rich warm patina. The body of the trunk is covered with embossed tin and plain black metal. The leather handles are missing but these are inexpensive and can be purchased any of the trunk restoration sites on-line as well as right here on EBAY. It has two clasps on the front to hold it closed and there's a lock but no key, we are not certain that the lock works so it will arrive open. Two sturdy hinges on the back hold the lid securely in place and the lid fits nice ... moreand snug. The inside is nice and dry and there are the remnants of the old paper that it was lined with here and there. Most folks like to sand down the interior and apply a sealant which eliminates any lingering musty odors, another option is to line it with cedar. The bottom of the trunk is metal covered with three wood runners that have done a fantastic job of protecting the bottom. Near each corner on the bottom is a small metal wheel that makes the trunk easier to move around on any hard flat surface. These antique trunks are not often found in such nice condition, there is very little surface rust and and absolutely no rust through on the metal. A great place to store extra blankets, seasonal clothing, toys, hats& mittens, a display piece for an antique doll collection or antique toys. I once sold a trunk to a grandmother who purchased it to send her grandson off to college!

This is a great old child's or doll's trunk that I have been using as a storage piece. It is a domed or camel hump back top. With wooden ribs. There are are black metal bands with brads across the top, corners& sides. The think wooden ribs arch across the top and around the center circumference of the trunk. The inner structure of the trunk is wood with metal overlay- probably steel. The steel has been faux treated to given a bronzed/copper look. It is original to the trunk, not added. Some scratches on the surface. The original paper trays are inside with some decals. There is a little hook which allows you to open and close the inner"door" images 3& 4. The bottom is wood. There are 4 tiny little metal rollers on the bottom to slide the trunk. The trunk measures 12-1/4" high to the domed top. 10-3/4" deep, ... more18" wide. There is some overall wear very typical of the age and it's use and was definitely used by children. It is missing the lock latch. This piece has true character with age appropriate wear. Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Metal Oak Slatted c. 1900
Gorgeous Victorian era antique dome-top steamer trunk. The metal sides and top of this chest are embossed with an intricate floral design that has been painted a wonderful gold color. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with braces at the corners and where it meets the oak braces. Two heavy leather handles on either side are worn and broken. Giving the piece an authentic aged fee. The metal lock and fasteners are impressed with decorative designs with an arts& crafts flair. Two of the oak slats have writing on them, which is difficult to make out. This piece is both decorative and practical for storage. It most likely dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Overall. Antique Small Child's/Doll Embossed Wooden Metal Overlaid Steamer Trunk
Up for bid is an antique child's/doll wooden steamer trunk. The trunk is overlaid in embossed painted metal. The interior is covered in paper. The trunk measures 14" x 8 1/2" x 9" high. The handles are intact. Some of the nails are slightly loose especially the ones in the hinges. The locking mechanism is no longer functioning. I am not an expert but this came from a friend's mother's estate and they had quite a few trunks that had been handed down. Similar ones seem to be from the late 1800's but this is unique in the fact that it is covered in metal with wood trim. It has a flat top. Removable tray and wheels that I placed coasters over. TRUNK HANDLE KIT-Two chestnut colored leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" wide by 5/16" thick nine inches long. Four old style original metal strap retainers painted black. 1" split nails are provided to fasten the leather to the trunk. Form handle with loop(size to your grip) in the desired position and apply two nails top and bottom of the strap at both ends underneath the ultimate position of the metal retainers. 3/4" split tacks are provided for the retainers. free postage-These straps are very durable/rigid and some of the best used for trunk handles particularly for the large heavy trunks. Two chestnut colored leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" wide by 8 1/2 inches long. Thickness is 1/4" Four brass plated metal strap ends. 1" long split head brass tacks to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the metal strap ends. The handles measure approx 10 1/2" metal end to metal end but can be shortened by cutting a bit off of the leather strap if required to fit. free postage

Beautiful Completely Restored Embossed Metal Antique Toy or Doll Trunk
This Toy trunk is a great size at 14" long. 9" wide, and 10" high. Three wide, grooved hardwood slats on top. Working lock with key, and embossed leather handles. Completely restored interior that duplicates the original design. Now on to the metal. The embossed metal covering has been restored to its original finish. This is NOT Gold paint! The process I used was the same as was done in the late 1800's. The finish is a clear Shellac that has been tinted with Red and Yellow tints derived from the spices Spanish Annatto, and Turmeric. This translucent coating is applied to the polished metal that produces a dramatic and very unique look. Once again this is a level of restoration you will not find from any trunk re-finisher. Antique Doll Trunk 19th C. Camel Back Metal & Wood Charming
Selling is the sweetest antique doll trunk with a domed lid. The trunk measures 16" long. 9 3/4" wide and 12" tall to the dome top. The trunk is made of wood with wood ribs on the outside of the trunk. The trunk is covered with a textured silver tin that is showing some darkening with age. There are metal straps with a black finish on the edges of the trunk and they are held in with small rivets. There are 2 clasps that hold the lid down that look like cast iron. The clasps are marked"Pat. Jul 9 72" The center clasp is brass, although it is old this looks like it was replaced at some time in the past. The bottom of the trunk has 3 small legs or rollers in the corners, one is missing. Inside the trunk there is an original label a paper picture of a girl. The tray from the inside is missing. The inside has a trunky ... moresmell. The leather handles on the side of the trunk are missing.
