It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! Note: Not shipping overseas nor to Alaska on this one. Only to domestic United States. As well as a piece that sits in the bottom drawer(see pictured photo) There is also a piece thats used to secure the hangers farther back that is pictured. The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. The metal banks and plates have a nice rusted surface patina; the wood is in good shape but with a complimentary aged surfaces. The canvas has faded and has been torn& patched in places. The hasp for the locking mechanism is missing, and someone added some wooden"feet" to it which can be easily detached by removing the screws. Antique Trunk Wood Covered In Leather 1800's Metal Bands Beautiful Piece
Beautiful antique trunk. I had someone online look at pictures and he estimated it was from about 1890. The research I have done myself leads me to believe it was made between 1870-1890. It is made of wood and covered in leather. I believe that it's pine but I could be wrong. There are metal bands across the top and around the edges. Please see pictures this truck is old and has plenty of bumps and bruises. The leather handle straps are missing and there are several patches of leather missing on the top and front. There is also a crack in the lid. It definitely needs some TLC but is still beautiful and has tons of rustic charm. There is paper lining the inside that is torn and has some spots. Antique Steamer Trunk-Dome Top-metal & wood bands-inside tray-circa 1890-1910
Antique dome-topped steamer trunk. Believed to be circa 1890-1910. Wood and most of the metal is in very good shape(could easily be refinished) however, the protective metal bands at corners have received some damage over many years of steamer-travel and freight-handling. The large interior tray is intact, and one of the lid-compartment doors is also intact. Note the decorative panel inside the lid, which is vibrant in color and unblemished. The interior of the trunk has the strong smell of cedar, so I'm assuming that tray construction is of cedar wood underneath the papered covering. Sorry but there is no key. The lid hinges close just slightly"off-center, but the trunk does close and latch securely with care. Can't see a maker's mark, but labels(where legible) indicate travel to NY, so assume it is of American origin. Over all good condition, it has wear and scuffing from age and use.also the base has a small nick in the metal on bottom edge and it has a slight warp, so does not stand flush at corners,but does not affect its ability to stand. Also what I have shown on the bottom that looks like a crack, does not go through, and is where the front feet are attached. Nothing unsightly. It is a marvelous old piece of metal work. Great vintage trunk with great wide wood slats over pattered metal. It has a slight dome or curved shape to top. It's missing one the lifting straps onside. But the hardware is there for an easy repair. It has original owners name, P.E. Pierce, stenciled on one side as well. It measures 30" wide across front. 18" deep front to back. and 21" tall at highest point. It has 98% of it's original decorated paper inside. The hinges on back had come and have been repaired with new hardware, making it very secure. It has original cloth strap to hold it open. Please see many photos for best condition report. This is an antique lot of 8 original hardware pcs. off an early steamer trunk good for repurpose repair parts. They are in solid condition but are very old so some rust too backs but nothing terrible. There are 4 pcs. that go on the trunk lid and 4 pcs. the go fro the lid down the side. It feels like is made out of wood and the stuff atique trunks are made out of it has had the lock cut out and reattached the handle part there is a hole you can see from last pics. Looks like besides lock part has tipical wear from age I would consider in nice antique condition. Has nice leather straps some metal has dents.
