This is a beautiful very old antique suitcase/trunk. It comes with the original keys and they work great. It appears to be made of cardboard and it looks like it's lined with fabric. It has leather corners and brass?hardware. I got it at an estate sale with a lot of very old items. I'm guessing late 1800- early 1900. It has normal wear. But is in great shape. The leather is surprisingly soft and supple, but the hardware is very tarnished and rusted, and one of the hinges is corroded through. I think this is an antique or vintage doll case or suit case. There is no doll or figure. Clasp seems to work ok maybe a touch stiff. Hardware on corners and handles on one end doesn't seem like there ever was one on the other end. Top part of cardboard separating a bit on top some wear and scuffs on outside. This has dynamite vintage stickers United Airlines, TWA, China Clipper, Eastern, and one that can't really read. The bottom has some striping that is missing and peeling elsewhere. Also one corner, paper missing please see photo. This has some wear and scuffs, but what great character. Inside two cardboard drawers which are pretty rough but here, some cardboard wear and spots, but this has such a great look and feel to it. Not quite sure how to date this, but I would think 1930s to 1950s maybe- just a guess. Actually back side ... moreof clasp has SP and patent number 18423385. I never have much luck with those things but might help someone else. This has some wear in tear but in this case it kind of adds to the charm of the piece. I do not have a key to actually lock the case, but you can open and close the snap closure. The inside is a blue pattern cloth and it does have some stains. The outside has some scratches and dings, and the brown trim is a little rough. It is still structurally sound and has a great look. I would guess it to be late 19th century or possibly early 20th century. The hat has no rips or tears, and has been kept in it's hat box for give or take 100-120 years. It show signs of age wear and close inspection reveals light pitting(possibly moth holes) and a few small spots of discoloration. This hat came from a very old estate in Manayunk, Pa. from the owners of a several-generations-old carriage business. The hat was found in an old stable in its original leather luggage bucket style carrying case. Inside the hat it reads: Moss Brothers Covent Garden. The ... moreleather band was stamped 7-1/8. On the leather case bottom is a neat shipping label that reads: AMERICAN EXPRESS CO. From NEW YORK, WEST SIDE TERMINAL, COLLECT charges at destination. I believe American Express dates back to 1850.
