It has 8 drawers and all are slightly different sizes. It really is a beautiful highend piece of furniture. I have 2 but the other which matches exactly was mishandled by the movers and needs a little tlc not refinished but touch up is needed. Antique Edo Era Japanese Ships Merchants Chest Tansu Box Funadansu Funa-Dansu
This is an antique Japanese Sea Chest. Traditionally they were used by ship captains as a type of portable office. they would carry important papers. Writing utensils and money. Because they were so practical they were also used by merchants. But they were still called Sea Chests or"Funa-Dansu(Sea Chest) Judging by the hardware, this one was made in the mid to late 1800's. It's had a metal stand made for it so it could be used as an end table or just as a way of displaying it. This stand is included. It can be carried by the handle on top but the handle itself is a little loose. The locks don't work and stay unlocked. The drawers are made of kiri wood(Paulownia) a very light weight asian wood. Antique Tapestry Wood Copper Repousse Hearth Shoe Box Arts Crafts Storage Chest This is a very lovely and unusual repousse antique shoe box. These boxes were meant to sit on the fireplace hearth to hold shoes. Keep them warm, and to dry dampness. The outer box is lined with tapestry fabric on 4 sides(front, sides and top) The box sits on 2 pieces of wood which acts as feet and raises the box 1" off the ground. This box would easily hold 4-6 pair of shoes. I am not sure of the age, but with style and age factors on the metal and wood, I would guess over 100 years easily. It has XXVX(34) stamped on it around the lid edge near the hinge end. It also has an ink stamp that I can't make out. Large Square Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key Air Force
Air Force Military Band Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a refinished flat top steamer trunk from the Air Force. This one had labels on the exterior that gave reference to the Air Force and it had"218 Band" painted on the canvas. It probably was a trunk used by the Air Force to carry around a band instrument. We have taken some pictures of this label and writing on the canvas. We will be including these items with the trunk when it is sold. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top 20 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 35 inches. This unique trunk is the second one that we have had to refinish out of about 1500 trunks. It is not very common to find a trunk of this size and style. The trunk is made up of pine ply base ... morewood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood does have some older character marks or beaut marks which include nicks and dings on the wood in various places. The trunk maker used a lot of cap metal on the edges. Probably to keep this trunk from being damaged if it got struck on the sides. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This large trunk comes with a signed working lock. It is signed, Excelsior" We had to remount the lock since it was loose when we received the trunk. The lock works since we have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front and side latches also work, although we did have to replace one of the side latches. It is somewhat similar to the other three. This large square flat top trunk could serve nicely as a coffee table, especially if you have a sectional sofa. It would fit right in the 90 degree area in front of the sectional. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather straps. Cabinet is in good primitive condition, with wear and several repairs. The drawers are sturdy and well made. And they open without sticking. This primitive chest needs a new home with someone who understands that a few scars and repairs just give you more character! CONDITION: The top of the chest has a visible repair on both edges. The top left edge has a fairly clean repair. But the repair on the top right edge is more obvious because there is a small chunk of wood missing. The split is stable, and it will not be a problem. There is some thin white paint spatter in the same area. The finish has some wear, and there are some nicks, dings and scratches. Antique Primitive Pine Sugar Chest with Bracket Feet Lock Americana Trunk Brown
This lovely primitive sugar chest came out of an old house here in Savannah. Georgia. It was found lined with a layer of newspaper dating from 1839-1840, so we are guessing this piece dates to the early part of the 1800s. The actual chest appears to be made from pine, which as far as we can tell is a bit unusual for a sugar chest. The box sides/top are all made from one slab of wood, so it is made from old large timber. The chest has one large deep compartment and then a small drawer in the bottom, each with a lock. We do not have the keys to the locks. It has low, simple bracket feet. The hardware is old, but most likely not the original, as the chest came with one of the original knobs loose inside. The knobs that are on there now are similar to the original. It was also painted with a brown wash at some point. The edges are all dovetailed, ... moreand there are old square nails used in the construction. This is a beautiful piece of primitive americana that most likely originates from the southern region, somewhere between North Carolina and Georgia. DESCRIPTION: If you would like to own a beautiful piece of New England history. This is it. This is a beautiful 2-piece curly maple 10 drawer flat top highboy. It is an 18th century piece made in southern New England, probably Rhode Island, circa 1750. It spent a lot of its years in Maine. It is curly maple with secondary woods of poplar and chestnut. Fabulous Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps,Key, & Tray
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is one of the nicest. Fanciest trunks that we have refinished so far this year. This flat top steamer trunk should date back to the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. This trunk maker did a nice job of running lots of slat boards and metal banding on this trunk. This beautiful trunk consists of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. The wood has lots of older character marks or distress marks which have accumulated mostly onto the outer slat boards. There are also some typical stress cracks in the base wood, although the trunk is still sturdy. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have older distress marks and stress cracks. Here are the ... moretrunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. A unique feature on this trunk that you don't often find are the five slat boards running across the top. Most trunks have three or four, but not very often d you get five. It also has the three metal bands running up the front and across the top, and you usually don't have that many bands of metal on most trunks. Due to the slat boards and metal banding, it gives this beautiful trunk sixteen wooden sections to the top and sixteen wooden sections at the front of the trunk also. This beautiful trunk comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this fancy trunk are not brass. Since they are not brass, we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker used a lot of nice hardware when making this trunk. Antique Steamer Chest, Toy Doll size, Fair-Poor Condition, Needs restoration
This small antique. Doll or toy(possibly a sampler) steamer chest I bought myself at a tag sale in Vermont in the mid'60's and I suspect that it's from the late 1880's or'90's based on other similar items I've seen on ebay. It could be early 20th century. Perhaps I was 12 years old. I liked old things(and eventually became a history major) I used it to store"stuff" small toys and collectibles. It is not in very good condition. While all the corners are good, the key is intact, the lock mechanism is intact as well, it is missing the inner tray. The hinges and lift straps on the side are gone. A knot in the wood shrank and dropped away in the top(it's still there and needs to be re-attached) There are holes in the back of the trunk to attach a set of hinges that no longer exist. This is a ca.1900 antique C.E.Jennings& Co. two drawer machinist chest. There is a catalog sheet describing that this chest was made of chestnut. Some consider Jennings to be the original machinist chest maker. It is 21"x 13"x 10"high and weighs 16 lbs. It has all the original hardwear and the early hardwood drawer locking slide. The key has been lost. This chest has been refinished per the original and is in very good condition. The interior top compartment and the two drawers are lined with new dark green felt. Antique Walnut Sewing Cabinet Chest This auction is for an antique/vintage sewing chest cabinet. It stands 27" tall. 19" X 9" wide. It is in very good original condition but does have some scratches. View all the pictures for details. There are no major cracks. One of the drawers has a chipped edge(which you can only see if you pull it all the way out) Both drawers slide in and out very easily. It stands solid on four braced legs. The handle at the top is well attached. The original pulls are tarnished and need to be polished. There is also some very light paint flicks(hard to see) where it looks like someone was rolling on paint in a room and it spattered a little on the chest. Cannot find any maker marks. Up for your consideration is a tin can. Partially filled, of a vintage product called" K-4" a powder for athlete's foot. This can once held 1 and 1/2 ounces of powder. There is still an undertermined amount in the can, probably not much. Tin is about 5 inches tall, from the bottom of the can to the top of the red screw cap. This came from my grandmother's medicine cabinet when she passed away in 1974. My parent's just packed up her estate and store it for all of these years. Intending to go through it, but they never did. When it came time for them to move from their larger home to a smaller condo, we went through the items let and had an estate sale. My mom kept a pile of things she wanted me to attempt to sell for her on eBay. Can is bascially in C-9 shape. No dents or scratches on the paint. Georgian English Hepplewhite Style Bowfront Mahogany Antique Chest Dresser
Spectacular.World Class Beauty. Georgian/Hepplewhite Style"swirl mahogany" Bow front chest of drawers.Circa 1920 I acquired this stunning piece needing some tender loving restoration. It presented with a very opaque brown finish hiding the beautiful swirl mahogany. I removed the opaque finish and discovered the beautiful graining on this chest. Including on the drawers and the cross banded mahogany around the top edge.The rich reddish brown mahogany has incredible grains as seen in some of the close up photos(close up of the drawer pull) I restored the finish with many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish over the natural mahogany. The chest is a true chest of drawers with drawers that increase in depth(graduated) as you go down the chest.I restored the chest from top to bottom including regluing and clamping all of the drawers. The ... moredrawers all feature precise dovetail construction. Both at the front& back corners of the drawers. The drawers all have a extra stiffener support board built into the middle bottom of the drawers, a sure indication of high quality& craftsmanship. This chest is rock solid& built like a tank, made from all hardwood construction.the mahogany is all veneered over poplar secondary woods. The drawers are made of oak.The drawers slide excellently. The Chippendale style bracket feet and wrap around trim details of the top and lower portions of the chest are superb details. the brasses are all original including the dummy keyhole escutcheons. The detail of the brasses is fantastic as you can see in the photos. I buffed the brasses and clear coated them with laquer. They do have some darkened areas on the brass with makes for great character and patina The pulls work perfectly.You won't find more intricate& beautiful pulls.all original.There is a makers branded mark on the outside of the top drawer.see photo) The top drawer has 2 removable oak dividers which can be used to divide the top drawer into 3 compartments. Antique & Primitive Six Board Footed Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Box, Trunk 47"
I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. Please do not ask for this item to be shipped. It is for local pick up only. No exceptions. A handling charge of $1.50 is included in the domestic shipping costs. Gold Leaf Lacquer Asian Oriental Antique Vintage Wood Cabinet Chest Cupboard Vtg
I confess. I don't know a whole lot about this piece. I found it an an old flea market in the middle of the Missouri Ozarks. I have researched and researched it have only discovered the following info. The design is called Gold Leaf Lacquer. It has beautiful motifs of white roses and birds. I believe it is what was called a"Shoe Cabinet" or a"Foyer Cabinet" and was naturally intended for storing shoes in. I can't find any artist or designer marks. I don't know if it is Chinese or Japanese but I am fairly certain it is one or the other. It hast has that wonderful Asian flair about it! It stands at approximately 30" tall. It is approximately 23-1/4" wide. It is approximately 11-1/4" deep. It looks to be modeled after some Asian Dynasty but I have no idea for sure or if it is a reproduction or an ... moreoriginal. I can tell you that it is unique. There is a little wear with some black lacquer having been chipped off in some places and faded in a few other places. French Abattant Louis XVI Antique Marble Desk Cabinet Chest Drawers 19th Century
French Louis XVI Secrétaire à Abattant 19th Century. Carved Fruitwood w/ Marble Top Item# 120010TTT02 This gorgeous drop-lid carved fruitwood desk. Featuring a pierced brass gallery wrapping around shaped marble with turret corners over fluted fruitwood pillars with brass mounts. The drawer has original brass hardware with a strong lock in the middle, the keyhole a four-leaf clover lock guard, limiting the keys that can access the hole- this lock mechanism is mirrored on the drop-lid and on the pair of cabinet doors. The lid drops to reveal six small drawers and a few cubby-holes, all of the drawers hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms bevelled to rabbet into the sides. The lower cabinet opens to reveal a locking box, key absent, the box somewhat destabalized due to a missing block on the right side. The sides of the case ... moreare single solid boards of fruitwood, absolutely glowing and gorgeous. The entire desk rests over trumpet form Louis XVI style turned feet with brass embellishments. The back of the desk has a little plaque from"Fidelity 412 Appraisal Co" the construction revealed as pinned tenon-mortise of the oak frame, locking together the vertical oak boards as they chamfer along the edges to rabbet into that frame. Most attractive about this piece is the deep golden high glossed finish. Grasping the light and absolutely radiating. Still functional with a strong and sturdy drop-lid, resting over solid even feet and with a nice clean interior, this is a piece that is practical as well as beautiful. It is a classical design, easily implemented amongst a broad range of decor from the bedroom to the office, and of petite dimensions it is convenient for any size of home. This is a piece that brings charm and character to any setting and will be that favorite cherished part of your home for a lifetime.
