I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece, but I do know that was originally contructed between 1900 and 1920. American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. Probably Philadelphia or the Delaware River Valley, c. 1770-80 Item# 130108OSP25 This is an excellent example from the Philadelphia or Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. A fine American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers c. the third quarter of the 18th Century 1770-80. Of quite desirable proportions, the chest has a refined presence with well preserved color in the walnut case. The quality of the chest is self evident, the top with a sandwiched molding wrapping around the rim, projecting slightly over the front and deeply over the back- this allowed the chest to rest flush with the wall despite the thick floor molding. Each of the graduated drawers has a molded lip of the solid. The faces solid walnut, the sides and bottom crafted of poplar: these are hand dovetailed, ... morethe bottoms deeply chamfered and slid into rabbets in the sides; the riven bottom boards run perpendicular to the face, nailed at the back with(mostly) original wrought iron rosehead nails with white pine blocks fitted in the chamfered edges along the sides. Original steel locks are retained in the drawers, locks now absent, the brasses replaced with period batwings- the chest had Federal oval brasses placed on it at one point, that owner drilling new holes very close to the original holes; the current brasses are in those same later holes. The back of the chest is joined with two original hand planed planks nailed around the perimeter. The top and bottom join to the chest with hidden dovetails. Evident in the score marks on the inside of the case. The feet are preserved in almost entirely original condition other than age appropriate repairs(noted below) the form of these ogee bracket feet is above reproach, a fine scroll cut swirl that has robust flare to it and terminates in a bladed edge. Caswell Runyan was a Cedar Chest maker from Huntington. Indiana that later became Lane. This chest is from around the early 1940's. Has a rare unique feature in that the drawers swing out allowing access to the lower part. Good condition has minor cosmetic flaws to the outside of it. Also, I have no key, but all you do is twist the lock part and raise the lid. The inside is like new condition and smells strong of cedar. The original tags are still inside of it. On one tag it says that this chest contains more than the 3/4" of Red Tennessee Cedar than recommended by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. I was able to count the rings on the top side it is 19 inch wide matches sides and drawer frts with an added 4.5 inch wide to make the top 23.5 inch wide the rings 11 to 14 per inch add up to 110 year old cherry tree crotch cut very rare and hard to make, the maker had to hand cut french dovetails in across the top to slide the drawer sides in to keep the top from warping up"that is why they alternate the grain on 4 inch planks" instead of the way this was made, he also had to bridge up the bottom of the top boards from warping down for the same ... morereason and double everything, quite a feat with only hand tools no nails no power tools back then just dovetails and mortise and tennon pined,everything except drawers and sliders were all made from the same cherry even the frame all matching all from same tree, I have only seen one dresser in a book that was made similar but all mahogany and it was around $80 grand, I would have never had a chance to own this but unfortunately the office caught fire,I understand befor the fire the dresser was insured for $13 grand, has no fire damage but some smoke damage in the 1960's in the 80's it was stored in the formans grove house till grannie passed and it was given to me bless her thank you grannie so much, this is a huge chest of drawers or dresser or? It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers have been fully restored and slide excellent. The Sheraton ... morestyle legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many, many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Like any fine antique.You will find character marks and minor imperfections in the this piece, such as nick, dings, filled holes, they add character and patina to this wonderful chest. Round figured knobs appear to be original. Drawers have hand-cut lap dovetails and cockbeading of the type brought into use starting in the 1770s. Overall condition is excellent. There is a chip approximately 1" long from the veneer along the front right edge. Which no doubt can be easily repaired by a professional. An American made classic. beautiful solid cherry wood chest of drawers.this dates from Circa 1875 This piece dates from the Colonial Revival period. I restore antique and make custom furniture. I rescued this gorgeous chest. It was on it's way to a landfill, buried beneath a dark brown paint.I was intirgued by it's design, but I fell in love with this piece when I saw the stunning wood grains hidden under the brown paint. The wood is solid cherry with wonderful, rich grains and textures. Some parts of this chest may be red birch or maple.The cherry wood is both sapwood and heartwood. This accounts for the varied colors and grain patterns, in this beautiful chest The side panels are cherry veneered plywood.I love the blackened grain highlights on the side panels. The wood has many beauty marks including a small age related crack(non-structural) ... morein the top left edge(see photo) I think it adds great charm to the piece. Just like the nails across the top drawer where someone added a piece of wood to the top edge of the drawer(see photo) I think the top drawer edge looks awesome with the exposed nails and the wonderful colors.The"eye brow" shaped drawer pulls are all original. You won't find more beautiful and unique solid cherry wood pulls, the grain patterns are superb. I restored this chest from top to bottom. Including all of the drawers being taken fully apart and restored. Antique Chinese Wood and Ivory Jewelry Chest Box Three Drawers and Lock
My mother bought this box from an antique dealer roughly 50-70 years ago. There is no writing or identification of any sort inside or outside the box. I don't know the actual age but it resembles other 19th Century jewelry boxes. I don't know whether or not the inlays are real ivory. If you purchase the box and an expert says they're plastic. I'll refund your purchase price plus shipping as long as the jewelry box comes back exactly as shipped, i.e. no pin holes in the inlays. I'm no expert so I'll describe the box as best I can. Dimensions: 5 1/2 inches wide. 6 7/8 inches tall, 4 3/8 inches deep I think I can see growth rings in the inlays under a loupe. The surface seems smooth to the touch but shows very tiny grooves. The color is a consistent off-white with no evidence of false patina. I looked at the box under ... morean ultraviolet bulb and I think the inlays are slightly fluorescent. The carvings have several minor inconsistencies in the symmetry. They're not noticeable unless you're looking for them. The wood is reddish(rosewood? with a very visible grain and varnished(lacquered? all over. It's almost flawless. The drawers open easily and are lined with smooth fabric(silk? which is still in excellent condition. The odor is mild and pleasant. One drawer has a place for rings. The box comes with a brass. Two piece lock with I-beam key. It looks like one could open it easily with a paper clip but is deceptively difficult.

NO RESERVE… This auction is for a a neat old Japanese Writing or Painting Chest. The Chest measures approx. 14 inches long. 10 inch wide, and about 13 1/2 inch tall. I purchased this with the contents of different greeting cards, letter stationary, and some odd little items someone was saving. There is no value on the contents. so I am shipping it with the contents. The top storage area has a little lock& key(not old) on it. The drawers do not have locks on them. There is a cut out carry handle on each end of the chest. All the storage drawers work fine except one sticks a little. You can see in my photos that there is age wear on the exterior. The dresser was an antique. That tells me it is at least 60 years old. I think it is walnut wood. I also think it is veneer. Please understand that I am not a wood expert so I could be wrong. This large antique English Country oak armoire. Manufactured during the early 1900's and recently imported from the UK, offers lovely organized storage for even the largest wardrobe. This large early 20th century wardrobe offers two hanging closets, each with a hanging bar and one has a 10 inch deep campaign drawer in the bottom for storing shoes or boots and a full size beveled dressing mirror on the central closet door; three large blind pull out tray shelves, behind that door along with a dresser with three large drawers. The inside of all the closets and shelving is lined in a yellow fabric which is overall clean and in good condition for it's age, adding a finished touch. The design of the piece includes an interesting construction technique that highlights the quartersawn oak wood and decorative metal hardware. This large wardrobe stands 86 inches long by 80 inches tall and 26 1/2 inches deep. Front to back. The two side closets are each 25 inches wide by 20 inches front to back by 73 inches tall. In the left side facing closet there is 68 inches clearance below the hanging bar. In the right side facing closet there is a 10 inch deep campaign drawer, leaving 58 inches clearance to the floor below the hanging bar. Beautiful Eastlake chest of drawers I found in an estate sale. I am not sure what type of wood it is-maybe walnut? It measures 58"H(back piece) 50 1/2" H(front) x 34"W x 17"D. It has 6 drawers. With the two bottom drawers slightly larger. Drawer faces have a burled veneer and each one has a lock-the drawers are unlocked and all open-there is no key. The pulls are carved wood-I am not certain if they are original to the piece. Pin and cove dovetails join the front and sides of drawers. Antique Cherry 2 over 4 chest of drawers with mirror from Penn State Dorms
I purchased this from Penn State University as a student in 1989 as they were selling all of the original dorm furniture from one of their buildings. Most likely made by Pennsylvania House furniture of cherry. 2 upper drawers have keyholes but I do not have the key. Mirror pivots on swivels. The back had been replaced with a piece of paneling. Dovetail construction with original feet. The brass knobs are all similar but do not match exactly. Bottom drawer has some wear where it rubs against the slider. May actually be walnut instead of cherry.

This is a pair of antique japanese Wood tansu or chests- one with drawers- both with sliding doors- all original iron drawer pulls in antique estate condition- shows weathering- They are large =each is 42 inches wide by 32 inches high by 16 inches deep one has a row of drawers on the bottom and cabinet sliding doors-the other just cabinet sliding doors They are stacked on top of each other for the sake of the picture only- they are separate units-could be used either way I will consider seling them separately These are pick up only- I will not ship them Pick up is in Southern California- zip code 91730 Pay upon pick up only

In original condition with knapp jointing in the construction which was very indicative of Charles Eastlake style. Original metal half hood hardware is in good condition. The wood is most likely pine throughout. But certainly is for the secondary wood on the inside. A great addition to any Victorian home or indeed any property as a functional and aesthetically beautiful piece of furniture. Due to the dimensions of this piece this will be a pick up only from Los Angeles. Measurements Chest of drawers measure 36" wide by 19" deep by 50" tall.
