Large Empire Style Antique Chest of Drawers Cut Glass Knobs c1870 Solid Cherry
This beautiful Empire style chest of drawers came to me from the estate of a collector. We believe it to be constructed of solid cherry and is dates to the 1870s. It features one deep drawer on the top and three standard drawers below. The front of this piece is carved with turned pieces on either side. The cut glass knobs are original and in very nice shape(no major cracks or other issues) We will remove these knobs and wrap them separately prior to shipping. Excellent condition with only some very minor condition issues(light surface scratches and a minor split to one of the drawer fronts) All drawers are dovetail construction– the bottom drawer is a bit sticky– we will take care of that prior to shipping. Appears to be a salesman sample chest of drawers with wood of oak and cherry. Drawer fronts are a nice cherry veneer over oak and top and sides are oak. Looks to be original brass pulls. SOUTHERN STATES Over Pierced Bracket Feet. Possibly Virginia, c. 1780-1800 Item# 1402LNP15PC A rare and certainly unusual chest. This fine American Chippendale Chest of Drawers is distinct in it's overwhelming simplicity of construction and appeal and set apart by it's highly interesting pierced bracket feet. We have not yet identified a chest exhibiting the same form in the feet, but two pieces of seating furniture from Williamsburg, Virginia- both pieces attributed to Peter Scott- have nearly identical pierced embellishments to the splats. These are visible below or by clicking on"Literature" The feet are complex, the outer edges an ogival form interrupted by ... morea series of fillets; the last stretch of the foot is cyma in form, outlining an almost perfect inverted"S" before touching the ground. The interior piercing sets against this in a way that lends visual support to the arch of the foot. The top and sides of the case are each crafted of two solid walnut boards. The top edged by a thin projecting molding. The four graduated drawers retain lips carved of the solid, each with a single deeply chamfered poplar board set into grooves and nailed along the back edge with square iron nails; the brasses are replacements, though appropriate to the case. The interior displays an affinity for British tradition in craftsmanship, each drawer being divided out with a full dust board(also poplar) to protect the contents of the drawer below from dirt and dust as the drawer above is opened and closed. While it is not unusual to find dust boards in American case pieces, it is not typical and generally reflects an English taste among the patrons for the craftsman, as it is certainly a more time consuming and costly consideration for the craftsman. This is a wide plank pine chest with Chestnut drawers. Very unusual solid large boards where used from a time when pine could be harvested in this size. The hinges are hand hammered. The company was known for its"royalty designs" and finest craftsmanship using fancy woods and unique veneers to showcase stunning designs. This piece is part of a whole bedroom set but being offered also as an individual piece. Made of walnut burl wood which was the most decorative veneer used in the period and much sought after and considered a"prized possession" It also features a masterful intricate marquetry design. Additionally it shows carved details. Antique Vintage Oak Portable Tool Box Chest Drawers
Vintage portable toolbox made from. I think, oak. It may be mahogany though. This toolbox/chest probably hails from the 1930's and is exquisitely made to a very high standard. The dovetail joints are immaculate. The chest has a front panel which slots in and when locked(no key unfortunately) would keep all the drawers in place when in transit. On the top of the chest is a sturdy leather handle for carrying, however this chest has been static for a long time! The chest has 7 drawers: 4 are 7& 1/2" by 7" with a depth of 1& 1/2" There are two which measure 15& 3/4" by 7" The largest drawer is again 15& 3/4" by 7" and has depth of about 3" Under the largest drawer there is a gap of just over an inch. The chest itself is 11" tall. 17" wide and 8& 1/2" deep. I must say ... moreit is a very attractive item. I have used it over the years to store all manner of paraphernalia. It's original purpose was a mechanical engineers tool chest, filled with reamers, drill bits and suchlike to repair aeroplanes. It is in generally good condition for it's considerable age, there are some scratches here and there as it did have a working life. This little cabinet would be excellent for storing your collections, each draw is lined with green baize. This lovely old dentist chest was purchased in New Jersey many years ago but it still has the medicinal odors that impregnated the wood in the top glass shelf. Antique dealer has appraised this item for over $3500. The mixing slate is gone from the pull out work area as seen in the picture and would require a piece of glass cut to size. There are many shallow drawers as well as deeper ones. There is a cupboard door for larger objects. It has a mirror top as well as a mirror backdrop under the shelf. This shelf has a glass door that lifts up to access the things stored there. The wood is nicely finished and the green marble base is in excellent condition. Great little child's primitive chest of drawers or vanity. Looks to be all original and has wheels at the base. There is writing on the back of chest and one of the words I can make out is'Buffalo. 3 wide drawers and 2 short ones at the top. There is a mirror which has primitive carving around it. Pulls look to be original. Could be used for a large doll. Condition: The bottom drawer does not open-it feels sealed shut. I tried opening it by taking out the drawer out above it and pushing from behind(because I didn't want to brake pulls) But it would not budge. Mirror is original to piece and has darkened over the years. There are splits in the bottom of inside of 2 drawers. With it's flaws. It is still a wonderful little piece. Antique 19th century mahogany veneer chest of drawers. There are four drawers with turned wooden knobs and applied decoration in the center of each. There is also fifth hidden drawer at the very bottom. Decorative cut outs at the edge of each foot. This is a very nice limed oak tall chest of drawers made in France circa 1890. The drawers are all solid wood with dovetail joints and all run fine. The second thing that strikes you about this chest of drawers is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this chest of drawers chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a chest of drawers with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this chest is just right and the chest of drawers benefits from having a good balance. Antique solid cherry hand crafted chest of drawers chest on chest circa 1850
Up for auction is a beautiful solid cherry chest on chest circa 1850. This beautiful chest is very structurally sound with no defects in the structure. All of the drawers Ron good. It has locks in every drawer with a key as well. There are obvious signs of use especially on the top there are some rings nicks and scratches. But it is in great shape considering it is approximately 165 years old. This measures approximately 53 inches tall by approximately 41 inches wide by approximately 20 inches deep. This great estate find came from Ohio. The gentleman I purchased it from said that it belonged to his grandmother. There is no information before she owned it. This is a great style and a great antique piece. It is located in Myrtle beach South Carolina for local pickup only, however I would be willing to meet with in a 50 mile radius for delivery.
